Nope, never had to get a sticker before and I have returned things in CT and NH without any problems. Even said hi to the greeter as I walked over to the customer service area with my return. No problems.
I would never think to call a Walmart to question what I should do with a return.![]()
As I have already stated I started this thread because I was annoyed that they did not post a sign stating that I needed to get the sticker before I got in line. I am not sure what is so confusing about that. If that had been done the whole issue of me having to get out of line would have been avoided. it is not the policy I am venting about, it is the lack of communication of it.
Not to be snarky, but in the time it has taken to discuss this post one could have called or written the manager and suggested the necessity of a sign to explain the policy...

or gotten over it.
If I walk into ANY "big box" store with merchandise (generally to return), I'm going to get a sticker. ESPECIALLY if I know they have greeters. I want acknowledgement that I brought something from outside the store. I've done this for years. I don't think any of our Wal*Marts/Best Buy/etc have this procedure posted. I just learned it... generally from watching others get stickers. If nothing else, I'll approach the greeter and say "I need to return this." That gives them the opportunity to say "here, let me give you a sticker" or "the returns are right over there".
Think about this for a second... let's say I go to Wal*Mart and buy $100 worth of DVDs/games/etc. I then take them home. I return the next day (perhaps even to a different Wal*Mart) with my receipt, go pick out the same DVD/games/etc, bring THOSE and my receipt from the previous day to Customer Service and ask for a refund.
I have come to the conclusion that those Walmart workers DGAF about you or your business. They are there for a check and I think they do crap like that on purpose. They enjoy making ppl upset because they hate their life and they hate their job.
But as for the Yellow stickers. I knew that. Our ancient greeter lady will stop you if you walk in with something in your hand.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you don't particularly care for Wal-Mart too much...![]()
I don't care for any business whose workers have an attitude and treat customers like crap. If you don't like your job, get another one. I just run across the workers in Walmart who have attitudes and you walk up to the check out counter and they don't even greet you. They just start checking your stuff and never even make eye contact with you.
My dad is hard of hearing and he was in Walmart the other day and walked up to a 20 something young man and asked him where a certain item was and instead of answering him he said to my dad Good Morning Sir. My dad didn't hear him and the kid turned around and very loudly and very rudely told my dad "I SAID GOOD MORNING SIR!" My dad didn't hear him the first time so he gave my dad a bucket full of attitude and stopped in the isle and was not moving forward to go show my dad where the item was. My dad was kind of confused so he just walked off. Sam Walton would turn over in his grave if he knew how crappy the stores and workers have become since he died and his kids took over. (And I know the story of my dad's situation because my DS was with him and relayed the story to me)
I don't know if the hiring standards are higher at Kroger but I never get attitude from workers at Kroger.
I think a lot of people are completely missing the point of the vent. It's not a complaint about the policy.
It was an honest mistake, not knowing you needed a sticker. Sending you back to get one after you've already been standing in line and then making you wait while they dealt with three other people would have annoyed me too. I've walked into large stores before (Target, etc.) with returns/exchanges and have walked through the store with my items before going over to customer service without getting a sticker or anything. If I had never returned anything at Wal-Mart before and nothing was posted about needing a sticker and I was not stopped by the greeter, I wouldn't think anything of it.
I agree what they had you do defeated the purpose. I just was trying to point out I'm paranoid about being thought of as stealing something I brought into the store.I totally get why they do it, although in my case it seemed pointless and totally defeated the purpose. This is the first place I have ever seen it done. I was talking to one of the Loss Prevention guys at work today and he was saying that my company briefly looked into it but in general it has very little impact on preventing people from stealing stuff and then returning it
