Walmart Vent/Question

I would have been super annoyed! I know that they do it and have had them com eup to me in line if they missed me or vice versa when I came in. That was at a regualr Walmar, not a super. At the super walmart it would be hard for them to come to the line to give me the label.

I would have went up after I got my sticker and probably said something before 3 people went before me, expecially if I was already annoyed.

It is nice if you do not have a receipt and do not know where the product came from. By doing this it allows me to know if the item came from there or not.

Another interesting thing about it is that the price prints on the label for what it sells for at that store. So as example you by it at walmart 1 for $3 go to walmart 2 to return the item, the sticker may say $5, because that is the price it sells for at that location. I have also gotten ones that were blank, if I had a receipt, but it did not come up in the system.

There should be a sign if they are going to do it that way, for shoppers like the OP who do not frequently go and or return things to walmart.

Nope, never had to get a sticker before and I have returned things in CT and NH without any problems. Even said hi to the greeter as I walked over to the customer service area with my return. No problems.

I would never think to call a Walmart to question what I should do with a return. :rotfl:

My Walmart is the same. No sticker needed. No signs posted etc. I look on receipts for stores policies, but if it isn't on there, I'd be thinking just need my receipt and the item and I'm good to go for the return.

Understand policies, but I'd be ticked also. And go to Target also.....

Not to be snarky, but in the time it has taken to discuss this post one could have called or written the manager and suggested the necessity of a sign to explain the policy...

As I have already stated I started this thread because I was annoyed that they did not post a sign stating that I needed to get the sticker before I got in line. I am not sure what is so confusing about that. If that had been done the whole issue of me having to get out of line would have been avoided. it is not the policy I am venting about, it is the lack of communication of it.

I think most find it odd that anyone with 17 years of retail would behave in such a manner as you would clearly understand what occurred and why it occurred and should be well aware that the employee was bound by the policy and procedures of her job.

A simple discussion with the store manager regarding a posted sign would go a long way.

Your posts does not come across as a vent about lack of signage but you venting you had to follow the procedure and had to get out of line and how she took a couple people before allowing you back in again..maybe that is why it is "so hard to understand" because your post does not clearly indicate your issue.

or gotten over it.

How do you know I didn't?? I actually did so that other people who are unaware of the policy (which is seems that is the case) don't run into the same issue.

And my post was not only to vent about the situation, but to ask if this is the case in other stores. My continuation of the discussion is based on other people responding and me responding back.

or gotten over it.

I am over it, but that doesn't mean I can't continue to have a discussion. That is the purpose of a discussion board, right?

Back in the day when I worked there the stickers were pink, and the person working the service desk would be in trouble if they didn't have the sticker stuck on the store copy of the receipt.

I haven't worked at Walmart in over 15 years, but I assume a similar policy is still in effect.

If I walk into ANY "big box" store with merchandise (generally to return), I'm going to get a sticker. ESPECIALLY if I know they have greeters. I want acknowledgement that I brought something from outside the store. I've done this for years. I don't think any of our Wal*Marts/Best Buy/etc have this procedure posted. I just learned it... generally from watching others get stickers. If nothing else, I'll approach the greeter and say "I need to return this." That gives them the opportunity to say "here, let me give you a sticker" or "the returns are right over there".

Think about this for a second... let's say I go to Wal*Mart and buy $100 worth of DVDs/games/etc. I then take them home. I return the next day (perhaps even to a different Wal*Mart) with my receipt, go pick out the same DVD/games/etc, bring THOSE and my receipt from the previous day to Customer Service and ask for a refund.

I think a lot of people are completely missing the point of the vent. It's not a complaint about the policy.
It was an honest mistake, not knowing you needed a sticker. Sending you back to get one after you've already been standing in line and then making you wait while they dealt with three other people would have annoyed me too. I've walked into large stores before (Target, etc.) with returns/exchanges and have walked through the store with my items before going over to customer service without getting a sticker or anything. If I had never returned anything at Wal-Mart before and nothing was posted about needing a sticker and I was not stopped by the greeter, I wouldn't think anything of it.

I totally get why they do it, although in my case it seemed pointless and totally defeated the purpose. This is the first place I have ever seen it done. I was talking to one of the Loss Prevention guys at work today and he was saying that my company briefly looked into it but in general it has very little impact on preventing people from stealing stuff and then returning it

I have come to the conclusion that those Walmart workers DGAF about you or your business. They are there for a check and I think they do crap like that on purpose. They enjoy making ppl upset because they hate their life and they hate their job.

But as for the Yellow stickers. I knew that. Our ancient greeter lady will stop you if you walk in with something in your hand.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you don't particularly care for Wal-Mart too much... :scared1:

I am sure the sneaky thieves still do that. All you have to do is walk right past the check out counter with your items and walk past customer service to the greeter lady and tell her the ppl in customer service told you that you needed Yellow stickers and you didn't know. She doesn't know if you came from customer service or from inside the store.

I am not condoning stealing. I am just saying, ppl who want to steal will steal.

I don't care for any business whose workers have an attitude and treat customers like crap. If you don't like your job, get another one. I just run across the workers in Walmart who have attitudes and you walk up to the check out counter and they don't even greet you. They just start checking your stuff and never even make eye contact with you.

My dad is hard of hearing and he was in Walmart the other day and walked up to a 20 something young man and asked him where a certain item was and instead of answering him he said to my dad Good Morning Sir. My dad didn't hear him and the kid turned around and very loudly and very rudely told my dad "I SAID GOOD MORNING SIR!" My dad didn't hear him the first time so he gave my dad a bucket full of attitude and stopped in the isle and was not moving forward to go show my dad where the item was. My dad was kind of confused so he just walked off. Sam Walton would turn over in his grave if he knew how crappy the stores and workers have become since he died and his kids took over. (And I know the story of my dad's situation because my DS was with him and relayed the story to me)

I don't know if the hiring standards are higher at Kroger but I never get attitude from workers at Kroger.

There are rude workers in EVERY store out there, It doesn't matter where they work.

My sister has returned a few items, including just tonight and we have never had to get a yellow sticker. Matter of fact the one time the greater stoped her and asked if she was returning and then told her where customer services was, she did not get a sticker then either.

I agree what they had you do defeated the purpose. I just was trying to point out I'm paranoid about being thought of as stealing something I brought into the store.

In today's technological society, I would check a retailers website rather than calling the store. Here is a link to Walmart's return policy: http://www.walmart.com/cp/Returns-Policy/538459

No where on the page does it mentions stickers - of any color - or checking in with the greeter. If a company cannot put that information on their website or posted at the entrance, then I as a consumer cannot be expected to "just know". I can look up the law online if I do not know it - I looked up the Walmart return policy to educate myself and no mention of stickers.
