Walmart update page 4

I just came back from a quick run to Wal-Mart and I did see a young worker in a wheel chair near the door. I don't know how that applies to anything here but just saying.

That's because Walmart put all those stores out of business with their unscrupulous tactics. Your choice for convenience contributed to the unemployment of all those people.[/QUOTE

Actually I use to shop mainly at Kmart and Zellers. Absolutely Walmart put Kmart out of business. They only coexisted for about 3 years. Walmart only came to Canada about 25 years ago.

As for target Canada it lasted 15 months. The problems went deeper than me shopping there. There were distribution issues and the shelves were always empty.

You clearly should have shopped there anyway.

I am curious what job they have them do?
Our disabled son has worked at Target for 3 years. He does stocking but is also trained as a cashier though he's very slow at it. They've been very good to him. I still love Walmart, too. Ours has had the same employees for years and the greeters are all still there.

What's crazy is that this has been my experience with Target the last year and half, two years. I leave there bent out of shape 90% of the time because I don't find even half of what I've been looking for and have to go to Walmart anyway. If I hit Walmart bright and early (before the place is packed with people) it's an absolute pleasure to shop there. Like a PP mentioned it's been the same clerks, greeters, managers, electronics people etc. for years. Nine times out of ten if I have a bad experience there it's because of the people shopping there not the people working there.

This has been my experience as well. Almost every time I've gone to Target, something rings up at the wrong price and I end up having to wait on another line to get the price adjusted. And that's if I can even find what I want.

I never had those problems at the local Wal-Mart.

That's been a great corporate excuse forever for closing under performing stores. Our local target has less cash registers open than wal-mart and that's pretty bad!

And they treat you like a criminal when their advertised deals don't come up in the system and you have the ad to show them. Used to be my favorite store but I'm just about done with them.

Update .
A protest for Danny was staged this weekend.
A state Representative has gotten involved.
Hundreds are boycotting the store.
Another local store in Mt Pocono let go another beloved disabled person who uses canes, named Chris.
Local Mayor is getting involved.
A third store in Pittston (about an hour from the other stores) fired a third disabled person.

It looks like Walmart is rolling this out slowly, but is very definitely firing it's disabled and senior workers.

I love our local target but not our Walmart. I've been in enough of both to know there isn't brand consistency.

Our target and Walmart are across the street from one another but might as well be in alternate universes. The target is well stocked, clean and organized with nice employees and well behaved customers (many are neighbors and friends). On contrast, the walmart is poorly stocked, dirty and disorganized. The employees are nice but many customers are poorly behaved.

I only shop at Walmart on rare occasions - I have limited donated funds for a charity event like a school supply drive.

I had to go to Walmart this weekend. Best place for the bike things we needed...tubes and tires. It's rare we go there.
I found it much cleaner and organized than the last time I went in (probably some time last Fall). The cashier was very friendly....maybe overly so. Very different experience from previous shopping. I don't think there was a greeter....if there was, s/he didn't greet us. We did notice that the doors for leaving the store are the single doors with barriers around them. Seems like they've made it harder to leave the store....we were guessing this is to make it easier to stop shoplifters. (The entry doors were much more open and may have been double doors).

I went to Walmart this weekend to make up for the lost sales from all the DIS members who won't go. I'm doing my part!

There were still door greeters at both doors. One was in a motorized wheelchair and the other was standing with a cane/walker. Apparently this change isn't happening company wide.

SOME of its disabled and senior workers.

Send a company a message that they can never fire a disabled person, and you're sending them the message to never hire a disabled person. And they couldn't be blamed for it.

Must be a regional thing. Here all the good brawls at Wal-Mart involve hockey sticks. :snooty:

Sorry, but if your region is Canada I think you might be hard pressed to name things that don't involve hockey sticks -- funerals, weddings, bar mitzvahs included! We all pretty much know our next door neighbor to the north is a tad wee bit fanatical about the hockey, even if we don't understand Don Cherry's sartorial flare.
