Walmart update page 4

I can't believe people still shop at this craphole. Aren't your scruples worth more than the few pennies you may or may not save? Shameful.
Maybe because they like shopping there. Maybe because it's convenient. Maybe because they secretly like irritating the pearl-clutchers who "can't believe" anyone shops there and calls them unscrupulous and shameful.

I don't shop there because every time I do, I get absolutely horrible customer service. Long lines (without reason....slow as molasses cashiers, etc). Impossible to find someone who knows the answer to a question about location of an item, etc. Every 6 months or so, I find myself in one as a matter of convenience, and every time, the experience is the same. I start to think "maybe this time, they will prove me wrong", but it never happens. I don't know if that's unique to my area, but I really don't care. I will shop them only as a last resort...not as a political statement of any sort, but because I can do better on price and/or customer service.

We have 3 greeters at our local WM.

2 older guys (65+) and one lady who's younger but very small in stature. Could they lift 50lbs? Maybe in a pinch, but I doubt they could on a regular basis.

They don't check receipts unless someone sets off the alarm going out the door.

We live in a pretty low crime area, so they mostly just greet people and say have a good day when you leave.

I have 2 full line Wal-marts and a Neighborhood Market within about a 5 mile radius of my house. One of the full line stores is just like you describe. Lines slower than sin. Don't buy any frozen goods because they will thaw while you wait in line. The other is the polar opposite. We never wait in long lines. They have had some of the same helpful staff there for more than 20 years.

My widely varying experience at the different locations really helps me see how people here can have such wildly varying reports on shopping there.

That said though, I do think some people go in with a preconceived idea of what to expect there.

Seriously? Wow, that's pretty rude.

I've really never understood the Walmart bashing mentality. If you don't care for the store, then by all means don't shop there. But a lot of people do like the store and I'm sure their scruples are just fine. What is shameful is someone looking down their nose at others who do shop there. Ridiculous.

I guess they like inferior product at prices that aren't really lower.

Up here we have no more competition for Walmart - Target closed, Zellers closed, Kmart closed. The only variety store left is Walmart.
Sure I guess Superstore has some non grocery items and Shopper's Drug mart has some stuff but not like Walmart. Some at Canadian Tire but its mainly hardware/automotive. Giant Tiger but its like 1/20 the square footage of Walmart. Maybe the big warehouses such as Costco but they are a PIA to get one item. Dollar store?

Items that I buy there are the same stuff I would buy elsewhere for cheaper - bug spray, school lunch bag snacks, office supplies, DVDs, greeting cards, etc. Sure perhaps I could go buy each of those things MAYBE for similar pricing if I felt like running to 5 different stores. My time is worth more than that.
If there was another option to Walmart I would explore it but there isn't.

Not sure what you mean inferior products? How is a XBox game bought from Walmart different to one bought at Best Buy? Or if i buy Royal toilet paper at Walmart rather than my grocery store how is it different? Do they make the toilet paper different if they are shipping it to Walmart? Please explain.

They don't have greeters. However, they have employed disabled people without requiring them to be able to lift heavy objects.

They give you a plastic bag to put your umbrella in when it's raining.

What's crazy is that this has been my experience with Target the last year and half, two years. I leave there bent out of shape 90% of the time because I don't find even half of what I've been looking for and have to go to Walmart anyway. If I hit Walmart bright and early (before the place is packed with people) it's an absolute pleasure to shop there. Like a PP mentioned it's been the same clerks, greeters, managers, electronics people etc. for years. Nine times out of ten if I have a bad experience there it's because of the people shopping there not the people working there.

We have a greeter in our store in a motorized wheelchair. I'm curious to see if she's still there...

Interestingly, our Walmart (I'd guess most) have 2 entrances. There is only a greeter on one side.

I went to Walmart this afternoon. I didn't go in the door with the greeter, but I did see the women I mentioned above at the back of the store seeming to head into the employee area for a break. So, as of today she's not gone.

I also noticed that they'd added an employee at each of the two self checkout areas. There is now an employee up at the computer (always been one there) and also a new mark on the floor on the other side of the self checkouts (the line basically) where another person stands who goes and helps people scan their items, etc. I'm not sure if it is a coincidence, but they need this self checkout person more than the greet IMO!

Poor guy. We don't have a lot of places here to shop, but I generally go to Kroger instead of Walmart. When I go to Walmart it's generally cluttered and I still haven't figured out why they have 40 cash registers and keep maybe 4 open. Most of the cashiers at our Walmart don't even say hello as they ring up your stuff. Any managers I've ever worked for would be appalled if you didn't speak to the customer that you were waiting on!

Funny, I haven't ever seen a disabled greeter at Target.

My Target employees a deaf cashier who (obviously) does not speak and also has issues with her hands. She's a little slower, but still good at her job. She wears a name tag that says hearing impaired.

Our Sam's Club also has a receipt checker who is in a wheelchair.

That's because Walmart put all those stores out of business with their unscrupulous tactics. Your choice for convenience contributed to the unemployment of all those people.
