Walmart--This bothers me

I don't have a problem with the turnstyle bag things. They still have an employee bagging. At the grocery store I wouldn't just leave. If there isn't a bagger in that line (which I'm noticing lately they have one or two baggers that keep switching lines rather than manning a bagger at each line. I either wait for the bagger to come over or for the cashier to do it. I hate doing either of those and always feel rude. But I do it because I want those people to have jobs! I'm just one person so I might look rude but if everyone did this the managers would surely get the hint that they need the workers or people will shop somewhere else where they are adequately staffed. I don't get paid to bag my own things or check them out myself, nor do I get a discount. So the store is getting work done for free, and people are not getting hired. In these times especially I find that unacceptable.

:thumbsup2

I've never heard of the customer having to bag the groceries themselves unless they are using the self check out. Our Wal Mart has the turnstiles and the checkers always bag the items for us. I've never been expected to bag it myself. I find that very odd. And no, they haven't had a separate bagger for a long time, it's always the checker doing it.

We only have ONE Walmart in our area - it serves Chapel Hill and Durham NC with a combined population of around 250,000 AND 3 major universities. And it's only a regular Walmart too.

I sure hope they don't take away the self scanners because on most days there are only 2 regular checkouts open. Yes, 2! And there is never more than 1 person working the Service Desk.

They were supposed to build another Walmart near my house but with the economy I heard that wasn't happening.

Isn't there one in Northern Durham? Or did it close?

I actually haven't shopped at Walmart in months. The last time I went there I got frustrated just with the parking and thought if it was that bad in the parking lot I didn't want to deal with the chaos inside. I turned around, left and didn't go back. I'd rather spend a little more. And as far as the self checkouts anyone been to home depot lately? The last 2/3 times I was there there wasn't even one cashier!

Wal mart has been renovating for a couple of years. Ours were done early as we are near Arkansas. Bigger, brighter, better looking shelves and floors. They also started to require that all employee's dress in navy blue shirts and kakhi/brown pants (the guy who used to run Target is now running walmart LOL). The newest thing is they have taken out the displays in the action alleys (big aisles in the middle of the store) they will be making the shelving a little longer but no more 4way displays in the aisles. That is supposed to be working it's way through the country as well.

Oh and our newest store did not have any self checkouts and they will be taking out the older ones. They documented thousands of loss dollars a week from people stealing items. I like the self checkouts too, but it's always the idiots who ruin it for the rest of us.

That's a shame. I like the self checkouts when I just have a few items.

Our Wal-Marts seem to have plenty of cashiers but our Target is another matter. Why does a store need over 50 checkout lanes when they normally man only about 10 or 12?

Three times in the last month, I've left a buggy full of stuff because there were lines at the cashiers 15 deep and this was at a time during the day when the store is almost empty.

I have found it actually pays to go to Wal-Mart during the busier times, as they have more staff on the cash registers then. Like Saturday morning. Found out from talking to a supervisor at SamsClub once that staffing is dictated from above (corporate)...they're only allowed to schedule and pay so many cashiers at different times of the day according to sales projections, so even if it's busy you are SOL. They expect crowds on weekends and staff accordingly.

WM are finished the remodel at our location. It seems to me that they have remodeled to look more like Target. Also the employees now have a dress code, they wear navy blue shirts and khaki pants. Doesn't that sound familiar- Target is red shirts and khaki pants.

They've always had a dress code - it just involved the blue smocks - and underneath could be anything "appropriate" of course there were issues with people wearing what they weren't supposed to under the smocks.

I was at Target tonight with guess how many registers open? 2! out of 18. ONLY TWO! And as always we had several people in front of us. I don't know why WM gets the blame for not having enough registers opened? :confused3

At least @ WM I can check out @ other places in the store - so that would count for opened registers - there's at least one in garden center, 1 in electronics, 1 in photolab, 1 in sporting goods, 1 in jewlry & 1 in auto & I've checked out in everyone of those places (other than jewelry)

SOOO lets see that another 6 registers that aren't accounted for....

Wow that was a lot of runaround, thanks for clearing up the connection. LOL I actually don't care what the associates wear, as long as they leave me alone when I'm shopping and answer my questions correctly when I ask. I like blue tops with my kakhis so I have to plan to shop on days I'm not wearing that combo cause I get stopped for questions myself. ;)(though I have answered random questions in Wal Mart before).
