Walmart changes

I'm surprised over all the complaints about dirty stores. All the ones around me are nice & clean and really there is no excuse. No matter how many people walk in all you need is a bucket of soap & a mop for clean floors and conscientious employees to keep the place neat. A while back there were similar conversations about The Dollar Store and ours are neat & clean here too. I don't do filthy. Also, all our stores are filled with courteous & helpful employees so I don't have to give up customer service, if I ask for help the employee invariably stops what he/she is doing and walks me over to find whatever it is. All our greeters are friendly retired folks... interesting how much a manager can hurt a business. You'd think corporate would be all over that:confused:

I don't see tons of cheap stuff.. unless you mean clothing because I only buy tanks there and other little things with a short use life anyway so I can't really speak to that. My complaint is/was that they are dropping grocery type brands, but the brands they do carry are the same as anywhere else. Also, some of the generic Equate stuff is just fine depending on what it is I mean, but there are times when I want what I want and if I can't find it I'm gone. They don't have overstocks on top any more so if they run out of, say thermometers during an uptick in the schools, you are out of luck.

I also don't do their produce. Although it never looked rotten it also never has any taste, like cardboard cutouts of fruit & veggies so I buy at the farmers market instead. I did buy Purdue once or twice but I am convinced it is not the same as what I buy at Shop-rite, I expected the brand name to mean equal product but it isn't, I think my dog had a feast for a few days. But canned & frozen stuff seems to be the same, same goes for cleansers and toiletries... oh and outdoor stuff.

I really don't like Target all that much as an alternative. For groceries they carry a small range of things but many brands within that range and their generics seem priced to compete with the brands so if I can't find what i want I am even more likely to walk out empty handed and go somewhere else. But for me their return policy is just too limited for me to put up with so I won't go there, a few years ago I had to return a Christmas gift and could not believe how badly they handled it. I know someone who bought a pair of pants which were ruined after 2 washings and they refused to stand behind their products and insisted the person did something wrong. This only underscored my problem with them.

Overall I think Walmart is at least keeping people employed who would otherwise be jobless and in some towns I suspect they are the only thing keeping the small economy going. To me that counts for something.

I would like to see them go back to the way they used to manage things now that this method didn't pan out. The economy is bad which means sales will slump a bit and trying to reinvent the wheel won't change anything.

I shop at Target and our local Festival Foods store.

Walmart can't come close to competing with Festival, in regards to service, cleanliness of the stores, friendliness of employees, quality of products and convience (ie parking, etc).

Walmart looks like a joke when compared to Festival around here.

Our WalMarts here are fine.

I am not going out of my way to shop Target anymore because of the donations to anti-gay supporters. Now I don't boycott but I just don't see them as a alternative to WalMart any longer.

So now we just shop sales and leave it at that now. I do plan to shop the Farmer's Market more this yr and see there that takes me.

I am surprised so many here shop Target for groceries! I know not all stores are the same. Just like every wal mart isn't dirty or clean for that matter every Target must not have the same selection. For just the regular sized stores I won't go in our Wal-Mart. Our Target beats them hands down. But the Super-Target selection and prices drove me away. Very low selection and the prices were a ton higher then the grocery store and our grocery store prices on most items are not good. I will however give Super Target another shot. Like others have mentioned over and over Super-Walmarts produce and meat are disgusting. Their prepackaged items are great prices and the store brands have only replaed a few items on our list but they never had those to start with and that is common in our area as well. For instance we like a jumbo box of Eggo waffles. We only find those at one grocery store. We would do all out grocery shopping at that one grocery store however they remodled and we can't find anything and they cut their staff by adding self checkout lanes which are fine to us except if we buy produce or need items that you have to be over a cetain age to buy, then you have to wait for assistance and still bag your own items. If this store hadn't hidden everything we would still be doing most of our shopping there. We tell them that every time and they agree with us but what is done is one. I will however give SuperTarget one more try.

Target brand edamame is delicious. So are the indian food pre-packaged meals, but our Target doesn't carry those, anymore.

Walmart produce has gotten better around here, but I would never buy their meat-yuk!! It's all full of salt/sodium. I'll buy from the grocery store with the butcher. I usually only go to Walmart for specific packaged foods that are cheaper and sometimes the local bread brand, but they don't have a decent selection. Walmart's dairy area where I live is also not kept cold enough to handle the traffic. Milk and yogurt I've bought there has gone bad before its due date.

ETA: Aldi's is becoming very popular, here, especially for those on a budget.
