I used the walkway from Epcot to MGM and back during my recent trip.
This is a good way to see Fantasmic and Illuminations on the same night, as I did.
I timed myself one way and it took 15 minutes gate to gate. But I am a fast walker and was really moving. I think I was doing about 5 mph, which would make the distance about 1.25 miles. Assuming that,
If you walk 4 mph (brisk) it would take about 19 minutes.
If you walk 3 mph (average) it would take 25 minutes.
If you walk much slower than that, you may want to take the boat.
The path is VERY well lit at night. It would be a nice romantic walk if it weren't so brightly lit!
Directions from Epcot to MGM:
Exit through the International Gate (between France and UK). Walk past the boat dock, then take a left to walk over the bridge to the Boardwalk. Walk clear to the end of the Boardwalk, then turn left and follow the path behind Boardwalk Villas. (Shortcut: Go through the "Breezeway" in Boardwalk Villas and cut through the pool area to the path.) Follow the path past the tennis courts and down to the stream. Follow the path along the stream and under the bridge. As you go up the hill on the other side of the bridge, you will see MGM.
Directions from MGM to Epcot:
After exiting MGM, walk toward the bus stop area slightly to the right. Continue walking north to the left of the bus stops until you find a path that goes left and downhill. Follow this path along the stream under the bridge. As you come uphill on the other side of the bridge, bear to the left and follow the path behind Boardwalk Villas. Follow the path to the end and turn right to enter the Boardwalk. (Short cut: Cut through to pool area and Breezeway to enter the Boardwalk.) Walk along the Boardwalk past ESPN Zone and bear left, crossing over the bridge. Turn to right and proceed to the International Gate into Epcot.
