Walking to Disney Challenge

Hi guys,

This is such a great idea! Can I join in? I think it's 4,200 for me to WDW so I'll never get there before August but it will get me trying to get some walking done to improve my fitness ....is it OK just to use a pedometer? I don't have a running machine so my walking will have to be the old fashioned way - outside!

Cheers

Karen

Hiya Miffy2003

I timed a walk to the convenience store, knowing it was exactly 1/2 mile. It took me 10 minutes, so I assume every 20 minutes = 1 mile.

I had a lousy week - it rained most of it and I was busy many evenings and lunch breaks so I didn't walk. I have the treadmill but no desire to get on it. I made up some miles today - I walked the dog three miles (one hour) and I ache a little.

Good idea Kris, thank you :) Hope your aches go soon!

Is it okay to put the clip art into my sig? I am hoping it will motivate me to walk!!

All right, I'm confused. Are you guys seriously WALKING to WDW? I know I couldn't do it!

Ok...so I'm at 19/1886 that leaves me 1867 miles to go!

That puts me somewhere between here and Tampa on I-75.

I missed some days. Looks like I'm up to 20/1332. About 10 more miles and I'm on the real highway!

Hi. I hope everyone had a great holiday. I didn't get a chance to get on the treadmill over the weekend. I am back on track today and added alittle over 2 miles today.

A request - I've read a post that others are curious about the Walking to Disney Challenge. Other DISers have noticed are clippies but don't know what the challenge is. I've gone to my signature and added a link to this thread at the Walking to Disney Challenge.

Copy the address of this thread, go to UserCP, Edit Signature. Highlight the address of the challenge clippie, click the globe looking icon above the text box. Click next and paste the thread url and finish. Preview first to make sure the clippie and link are working.

Is it possible to re-name a thread? Could we re-name this the Walking to Disney Challenge?

I've crossed the state line!!!!! I am now in Connecticut :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

No, we are not really walking to WDW. What we do is first pick a hotel in WDW (it really can be anywhere that you would like to go, you might pick AKL or Los Angeles, California as long as it motivates you). Then, figure out how many miles it takes to walk from your house to your destination. I am "walking" to the Contemporary and it is 1,000.52 miles from my house to the Contemporary. That is your goal. You keep track of how many miles you walk (on a treadmill or around your neighborhood or wherever). When you reach your goal, you celebrate. A lot of people plan an actual trip to their destination. I am going to put away a dollar per mile I walk and use that towards a trip to Disney, someday. Good luck with you walking everyone!!!

:wave2: My two girls had vocal lessons today, and, since it was a holiday from school-YEAH, BABY!-I had an hour to kill (usually they go themselves after school, I putter at mine and pick them up at the assigned time). Did it by walking 2.875 miles in 50 minutes. Not back to the 15 minute miles of December, but, respectable nonetheless. I will update my number after I play Dance, Dance, Revolution extreme. There is even a calculator on that game to indicate my mileage. :teeth:

Wow this thread has grown. Well inlaws are gone and hockey is over so much more time avail to walk. I have to update my clippie but added 3 KMS yesterday at the gym. I should be at the 427 by tonight....wooo is it getting warmer already.

Way to go everyone....now if I can just get that map thingy that is awesome.

Hockeychic,

You are the only one who can rename the thread since you started it. Can you edit the first post and make the subject line read Walking to Disney? I agree that it would be a better "official" name for our thread ::yes::

Thanks,
Sunny

More accurate mileage coming.....I bought a pedometer today. I picked one that shows steps and miles. :cool1:

I haven't even gotten off the road that I live on yet. Lots more walking to do I guess. I did walk today, not sure how far. I have to wear my pedometer tomorrow to find out how far it is. I'm guessing about a mile. I do know though that it took exactly 20 minutes.

Hello, everyone! I just bought a pedometer today to help me track my mileage. Not to make anyone jealous, but I'm going to Disney in two days and will be tracking my milaege while I'm there! ;) Oh, by the way, love the new title of the thread! :)

Today's weather was better than it's been in a week. I was able to buy my new pedometer before lunch break and track my steps all day long. By the end of lunch, including two trips around the perimeter of the building I had logged more than a mile.

I came home, the sun finally shining, and took the dog for our usual walk. I calibrated the pedometer to 24" strides from the defaulted 30" and learned that our walk is almost an exact mile, not the 1.5 I guessed based on time.

Today's total was about 2.3 miles. I'm hoping to log at least 35 miles this week and plan to break each day in to 3 1-mile segments.
