Walking Reservations

It can also happen if you want during the 11 month window at a resort that is undergoing refurbishment. Someone may be walking a reservation for March next year but the resort may take out of inventory some of those units for a couple of days in April because they are scheduled to be renovated then. If most of those units types are being walked, some of the walkers will get stuck at that point.

Yeah, that's the one exception which is why I mentioned that in the same post you quoted at the end...

"nothing can stop you unless Disney themselves pulls rooms from inventory for a refurb or something."

We got what seemed to be an ordinary cabin when we stayed there. Some representative photos below.

- It definitely had a tub in the bathroom. Maybe some of them are ADA and don't have a tub, but we did.

- There was no sink outside the bathroom. There was one sink in the bathroom (along with a toilet and tub/shower and a closet with ironing board, iron and hair dryer) and another sink in the kitchen. It's was indeed not a split bathroom setup.

I wouldn't buy there because of restrictions and dues. Would definitely use direct points to go back though! Great for a no-parks visit.

Looking at the photos of the two sinks, I wonder whether that was a wheelchair accessible cabin. In January we had the BWV HA GV, and last weekend we had a HA room at a Marriott Residence Inn elsewhere, and they both had similar space under sinks to allow a wheelchair to roll under. The bars on the bathtub wall and position of the shampoo, etc. also suggest HA and might be the reason for a tub as opposed to a shower. The Marriott last weekend had a transfer bench for the bathtub folded up in the closet, and the closet clothes rod in both was set low and therefore reachable from a seated position - did you note either one in your cabin?

I did not notice that.

We did get an ADA studio at BWV and that just had a (relatively small) walkin shower with a curtain, and folding bench and low-positioned soap containers. We weren't particularly happy with that room (it also had a "wall balcony" boardwalk view) but that seemed much more ADA-friendly than a tub.

Regarding walking, we either need a 2br or GV at BWV or VGF for December 2026 are walking required or needed for any of those rooms?
Thinking of 1st or 2nd week of December.

For a time as popular as early December, at BWV the 2BR would most likely require it unless you want to gamble. All the 2brs at BWV are lockoffs and may already be gone by people booking the studio portion unless you want pool/garden view. Standard/Resort and Boardwalk view go instantly or will already be walked ahead of time. And the GVs maybe. There aren't that many of them so it just depends if they are taken or not.

I am less familiar with VGF but possibly since they added the new addition with all studios, lowering the ratio of 1br/2br to the other rooms.

Thanks.

I should have clarified if the GV needed walking. You are correct about the 2br at BWV.

The one we saw was one of the model ones they had to view on site.

First week of Dec is the highest DVC demand week of the year at WDW, second week is third highest (behind Christmas week which is second). For those first two weeks of Dec, BWV resort (previously standard) view and boardwalk view 2BRs, and GVs, usually fill within nanoseconds after 8 a.m. eastern at 11 months out; and it is a time when even the pool/garden view 2BRs have a risk of filling very quickly at 8 a.m. eastern, although those sometimes last a little longer. VGF 2BRs and GVs often do the same although sometimes you can get lucky.

Also be aware that the resort view BWV 2BRs do the same year round and thus even finding a day of the year you can begin a walk can be difficult. Boardwalk view 2BRs do the same throughout the "fall " season (late Sep to marathon weekend in Jan) and once in a while other times of year, but you can possibly begin a walk for them In July (after July 6), because July (after July 6) is the second lowest DVC demand time of the year at WDW (Feb 1 to the Thurs before Presidents' Day is lowest), and possibly begin in Aug. BWV GV's have the issë at other, but not all, times in the Fall season, and you can usually begin a walk in July or Aug .

VGF 2BRs and GVs have the issue a number times during the Fall season, but you can usually begin a walk in July or August.

Note, you do not mention whether you own those resorts. If you are looking at the 7-month window, then you should assume walking will likely not work and you just need to get lucky via someone turning over the rooms at 7-months out.

I own at both resorts and as you mentioned the demand during the first two weeks in December is very high.

I just wasn’t sure if the demand for a GV at either BWV or VGF was that high as it’s a lot of points to use.

Thanks.

As noted GVs are somewhat less infected with the 11-month issue but still have it at times because there are only 7 at BWV and 6 at VGF. For CCV, DVD built a large number of point expensive cabins, for which most of the points were sold to members seeking only smaller rooms, which has resulted in those often being open even at 60 days out.

We wanted a BWV GV for 2025 Marathon Weekend. I was able to start my walk in December 2023 by booking dates in mid-November 2024 (for the week before Thanksgiving). When I started, I wrote out a day-to-day booking schedule, because I had to budget my points very carefully and adjust the length of the booking at times in order to get past the “humps” of high-point times like Thanksgiving and Christmas week without borrowing more points than I ultimately would need. And I walked every day, just in case something might happen to cause me to skip a day at some point.

It might not be as complicated for you, since you’re not booking past early December!

There is your answer… people are walking these things almost a year in advance if they can…. Holiday DVC is a full contact sport….

Actually, I started a little less than 2 months in advance - the 11 month booking date for what we wanted was in February 2024, and I started walking in December 2023.

Ok, but your OP started by saying you wanted a GV for 2025…. So many dates….

Yes, it's confusing because of the home resort booking date being 11 months - not quite a year - before checkin. So you have to start planning (and walking, if you're going to walk) well over a year before desired checkin date.

Yeah it gets a little confusing with all the dates. Sounds like Booked in Dec 2023 for Starting date of Nov 2024 then walked to Jan 2025? (instead of waiting until Feb 2024 to book Jan 2025)

Ahhhh… now I get it. I thought she started walking in Dec 23 until Nov 24…. For a BW view room at the holidays…. nothing but respect for that dedication! 🤣
