I don't remember seeing sidewalks at WDW. Using the buses and boats and monorails (and even a rental car) is the most time-efficient way to get around. But I'm wondering whether I could simply walk from one place to another. Is it permitted? Or frowned-upon? Would it be okay to walk from, let's say, AS Movies to Blizzard Beach? Or what if we leave Blizzard Beach and instead of taking a motorcoach, could we just walk back to AS Movies?

I have never seen any sidewalks, the only place you can walk with side walks that I recall from our trip in December was from MGM to the YC/BC and then over to Epcot or the Boardwalk.
Walking from BB to the AS Movies would be a bit hairy, its kinda of far and if it is busy time of year traffic is usually running along the roadways rather quickly.
In all honesty, in all my trips I have never seen anyone walking from AK to AKL, or the AS resorts to BB

As HelenK says, there are few sidewalks at WDW.

There are however a few limited walks you can take such as:

Epcot to MGM via Boardwalk, Yacht/Beach and Swan/Dolphin and over to one of the 'crazy golf' attractions.

From OKW through the golf course to Downtown Disney then Pleasure Island & Marketplace. From there there is a sidewalk all the way to Goodings at least. I think you can also walk (subject to construction traffic) back through Disney Institute.Sarasoga Springs.

There is a footpath from Contempory to MK.

There is a footpath from TTC through Polynesian, past the Wedding Pavillion & on as far as Grand Floridian. I am told there is a branch to Shades of Green but I have never explored it.

There is a path & cycleway from Wilderness Lodge to Fort Wilderness and a nature trail that continues out beyond Fort Wilderness

All the golf courses have paths, but these are closed to non-golfers.

If there is a sidewalk, feel free to walk away. However, if there is no sidewalk... DO NOT WALK THERE. The majority of our roads are high speed, high traffic, with blind curves, and little to no breakdown lane. I can't tell you how many times I have to slam on my brakes, and swerve to avoid hitting someone who is walking/jogging where they shouldn't be. For your own safety, please do not walk in the roads.

There is a walkway, complete with crosswalks from Blizzard Beach to All-Star Movies... It's about a full mile walk, but hey, if you're up for it, go for it. Just be careful when crossing the roads... Despite the Walk/Do Not Walk signs... some cars tend to ignore the "No Turn On Red" signs... *sigh*

I can attest to this from my last trip to Blizzard. I was at the light where there was a clear and obvious No Turn On Red sign. I was waiting for the green light but the drivers behind me (who definitely could see the sign) were honking and gesturing for me to proceed on the red. Had I not been there, I'm certain they would have turned on the red.

Wasn't there plans at one time to put an overhead crosswalk from All-Stars over West Buena Vista because there were so many near misses from All-Stars folks walking to McDonald's???

Is that still on, or just rumor??

Thanks,

Carol

All they did was add a "NO TURN ON RED" sign... although there are the $&@#$% people who ignore it (most are impatient CM's), most do follow it. This, combined with a 4-way red light, and a cross walk signal seems to do the trick.

A side note... 95% of all pedestrian traffic there is All-Star Housekeeping...

First time we stayed at AKL, my DH asked where he could run (was training for the WDW Marathon a month later). The CM told him "on any roadway" as the AKL didn't have a walking path of any kind.

So there he was, out running at 5:00am, wearing his orange reflective vest, and along come the Mickey cops. They pull up alongside him in the security van and ORDER him to get in.

They deposit him back at the AKL, and tell him he's welcome to run in the arking lot there.

They will not allow you to walk or run anywhere that there isn't a sidewalk. They will stop you.

Argh... I need to find that CM, and have him ride with me to see why he can't say that!!

I'm glad that your husband was wearing an orange reflective vest... most people don't do that, and I don't see them until I have to slam on my brakes and swerve... *sigh*

Disney roadways are not really pedestrian friendly... and can be very unsafe for them in certain areas.

He always does, even at home in the middle of the day. He also has what we refer to as his "toe tag". It's a metal plate engraved with his name, address, phone, blood type, and the fact that he's an organ donor. It attaches to his shoelace.

Hopefully it will never be needed.
