Just wondering how easy it is to walk to the start line from OKW. There was a woman I was talking to who walked from SSR to the start line and said she slept much later than I did since she didn't get on a bus at 3:15 like I did. Thinking about which DVC resort to book that will be most convenient to the start. Seems like BLT would be good, but you still have to be on the monorail early and that walk to the start stinks from the parking lot.

I know that you miss all the port o potties, and can't bag check. Any other downsides to walking to the start? Wouldn't mind getting an extra hour of sleep. Especially since I'm planning on Goofy next year.

The attached map is a path to the Race Starts from OKW.

The path leaves through the cast member parking lot then a short walk to Bonnet Creek Dr along Vacation Way. Be very alert on Vacation Way.

Note that there is a check point as you cross the canal. Once past that you will need to figure out the race day logistics from there. Note that many use the canal as a port potty on race day other wise one must go around the corrals to find real port potties.

The two disadvantages to walking...

1) No bag check. Your spectators need to bring what you will need to the finish.
2) at least one year since 99, the race did not allow folks to cross the canal.
3) OK three. Disney officially does not want runners walking to the race. But this way of accessing the start has been around forever
Hope this helps

I walked from OKW to the marathon start this year, and noticed many others doing the same thing.

It is a very short walk (10 minutes or so for me), but it is a bit dark that early in the morning. I will definitely plan on doing the thing next year.

We stayed at OKW and saw several doing this. If I wasn't traveling with others who like to go by the official disney rules in the program, I would have probably walked to the races.
