As we drove from Animal Kingdom back to Kidani the other day, my wife and I struck up a conversation about how close the two were and why they didn't have a walking path. At first I thought that perhaps they felt it was too far, but that didn't jive since the walk from the Boardwalk to Hollywood Studios seems to be further. So, I asked someone at the front desk and was told that it was a safety issue, not only for the animals but for the people. Apparently the path would take you somewhat close to the Savannah, and they don't want people that close. Another guy behind the desk chimed in that a walking path had been in the plans at several points but never went anywhere.

I am not sure what the real reason is, but even if it was a 1.5 mile walk, I think I would have been willing to do it.

I agree! Especially when we wait for a bus for 30 min. sometimes:scared1: It could help to work off some of the yummy food you eat at AK too:lmao:

One other benefit is that it would take some stress off of the bus system.

I have to say, though, that I didn't experience the rumored excruciatingly long wait times or bus rides that seem to be associated with AKL.

The only real place to stick a walkway without having to hit areas of the savanna is right along a street that runs from the resort to AK (much of which is avaialble only to Disney employee or services traffic) and even that would be close to savanna areas. Disney usually does not put walking sidewalks along any streets that are outside of the particular hotel resort areas.

That would be so great!
As far as working off the food, that's why I sometimes ask for a room far from the elevator when booking resort reservations. MS laughs when I tell them the reason, but they agree.

I looked at aerial views, and Drusba's right...not only would a walkway be along the roadway, but it would have to cross service roads in a couple places.

And along the road is a chain link fence with a double layer of barbed wire preventing access to/from a holding pond.

Disney would have to create a solid screening along any walkway preventing animal service area views, leaving pedesrians with the "good" street views...

I still want a zip line from Jambo to AK  ...

uh, there's a walking path from Boardwalk to Hollywood studios? Good Lord I learn something new everyday!! How long does it take? So what you're saying is that I could spend all day at HS and then go to Chefs for dinner without getting on a bus and without walking all the way through Epcot? That would be AMAZING!!!!

Yes, it takes about 20 minutes to do. We did it last summer and it was nice, not having to wait for the boat or bus.

As you head out of the park, you go to where the parking lot is and then head down the sidewalk to the left. For some reason, we would rather be moving than simply waiting, even if it saves us no time.

Can you walk to any other parks from resorts?

While some wouldn't call it "a park" you can walk from OKW & THV and SSR to DTD.
Also from the CR to the MK

HTH

PS/ It goes without saying - walking from BW and BC, S/D to both Epcot and DHS

Half of the time people on this board complain how far their room is from the lobby, in a air conditioned/ enclosed building, and you want to walk from AKL to AK?? boy you are not from around here, are you?!:rotfl2:

It would be more fum walking than riding a bus. Plus you are working off your breakfast. By closing time i would probably change my tune.

I suspect the biggest reason for not having a path between the two is security.

Have you seen the route into AK? I've not been all around AK, but I have been backstage. It appears AK has clear cut perimeter, several layers of fences and berms, and the main access has those steel barriers that come out of the roadway.

My understanding is it's because they have so many exotic animals. Apparently, zoos have huge problems with people trying to steal animals.

Not only is there the walkway there is also the boat that will take you all the way to Epcot. Its a great ride, but watch the fumes at the back, especially in a following wind!
