While I am planning on running the 5k twice on our upcoming cruises, my wife and daughter were curious if they could get off the ship with the group and walk the course? Will they need to sign up for it, or is this just not allowed?

Dh and I walked it in July. We didn't decide to do it until the night before. We went to guest services on the ship where they registered us and gave us the tickets to do it. It was fun but sooo hot. Of course I had to get the t-shirt when I finished!

Yes, they can walk it. Yes, they should sign up for it.

Can my 11 year-old son walk it with me? Not sure about the age limit.

I walked it. Although I power-walked, so I still managed it in about 50 minutes. Lots of people were walking even slower than I was. No problem with it.

The CM's may not be watching the course any longer (they drift off after about an hour). But you can still get your medal if you go to guest relations (well... your rubber toy you put over your next since it's not actually made of medal).

register just like normal. Minimum age is 10, but if you have a younger kid, they drop by scuttles cove to drop them off prior to the 5K.

Toy?

rundisney 5Ks, even the ones you pay for, involve a rubber medal. IMO it's because they have a lower age limit for them, and they don't want to have the metal medals injure a child.

The ones that came out this year for the CC 5K are absolutely adorable and fabulous, and I don't want to disparage them at all by calling them a toy. They are FAR superior to the hard plastic Mickey head medallions they gave out prior to January 2015. (and even those were fine for a *free* event)

Nothing presents your wife and daughter from walking the course while the runners are running there. They can even walk even if they signed up (lots of people did that) and you still get your medal. They will not allow children under 10 years old to sign up, but they can't prevent your wife from taking a stroll at the exact same path as the runners at that time with your daughter.

Glad to hear that the upgraded medals have stuck around, last year my knee hurt too much to run and I was bummed when I saw the cool medal that they handed out.

Something bothered me very much on our last cruise. I am assuming that if I search these forums I will see someone posting some "tip" that if you sign up for the 5K you can get off of the ship first and then just proceed straight to the beach and claim your territory for the day. I am a runner as is my 11 year old son. My fault for not signing up for the 5K the second I got on the ship, but when I went to get tickets for the 5K the following night I was told that it was "sold out". Thankfully they had a waiting list and I was called the night before we docked at Castaway that I could come get my tickets. I was horrified to see nearly 300 people, wearing their bibs, getting off the ship only to see about 100 line up at the starting line with the rest breaking off from the group at various points on the island to lay their territorial claim.

That is really lame that people do that, but I shouldn't be surprised based on the chair hogging that goes on during the day, where people get up early and set stuff on the chairs and not come back for hours.

Our plan since we are Platinum is to head right to guest services and sign up for the 5K and any other cool thing that they are offering.

I witnessed that myself. We didn't beat the main guests by much though. On our last cruise the ship wasn't cleared for a long time since it got in late due to weather. So by the time we were walked off the ship, we only beat the other guests by maybe 5 minutes. And you couldn't walk ahead of the cast members. SSSOOO by the time we got to where people could peel off, the tram had already dumped off the first load.

Thus the trick was on them. :bored:

On our cruise it was worse than that, the 5k runners were off the ship after people were let out already (by about 10 mins.)

We were just a Castaway on Sunday and participated in the 5K. I power walked the entire way and my husband jogged and walked (I have long legs and walk very fast so he couldn't keep up with me). I have asthma and can only walk and we finished in 45 minutes. There were very many walkers behind us. Have a good time, I considered it a fun accomplishment!

On our Dream cruise in 2014, my sons and I were at the beach for at least a half hour before my DH and the rest of the runners showed up to start the run.

I did the 5k when we went on the cruise at the beginning of the month. People were coming off when we were so it's not like we had an advantage getting off first or anything. It was a lot of fun and helped me to see where I am for the Star Wars 10k in April. I finished the 5k in 50 minutes.

Would they let my 9, almost 10 year old daughter run with our family? She's in girls on the run and would love to share this with her running club. How sticky are they?

We did the 5K last week and we were off the ship probably 30 minutes or so after the all ashore announcement was made.
