Honestly are walkie talkie's worth it?? and if they are what's the best brand to buy??

If you are talking about the FRS Radios like Motorola or Cobra, then I believe they ARE worth it if your group will be splitting up. Just make sure you get some with sub-channels. The radios without sub-channels are pretty much useless at WDW because you will get many people on your channel. I've got a set of Cobra Micro-Talk radios that I really like. You can set them to ring, vibrate or both. They also have a built-in weather radio that receives National Weather Service broadcasts. I bought mine 3 yrs ago, so they have probably been discontinued, but I would HIGHLY recommend them or their replacement model.

Walkie talkies are *great* only if you get the kind with subchannels. There are many brands out there on the market now, and I think you can even get them for as little as $20/each. I would also recommend recharging them. Still - when you use them, agree on a channel, and a "backup" channel in case that one is occupied and a specific time you will check in. Also, have handles - it makes it fun. We have used them frequently and are often the only ones on the subchannel. I used to use one that didn't have subchannels - and I kid you not, this guy "hit" on me while I was looking for my dad. Oy.

I agree that the radios with subchannels are the only way to go! We have used both and the subchannes make all the difference in locating your party. Another suggestion, buy the radios that use AA batteries instead of rechargeable ones. You don't need to have to remember to recharge each night, plus, if you take extra batteries along, you will never be without radio power. We avoided the ones also that used AAA batteries because the AA batteries are cheaper. Check at Wal Mart for good choices. We bought the Motorola Talkabout B5200 at Wal-mart. They weren't sold as a pair but we just bought 2 of them and they work great. One of them flew off my husband when he was on the Hulk rollercoaster ride and it still works!! Amazing!
Good luck in finding the right radios for you but YES they are worth your while!it
