Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

Today is calm before the storm. 47/22 but 2-4 ft of snow on the way starting tomorrow and ending on Sunday. As Dave mentioned, I am looking to escape(sorry Susie) this cold(22/14) weekend.

One week today I will be hanging with that evil panda and trying to keep him out of Disney jail.

Hey what about hanging out with me??? My feelings are hurt:sad1: Wait a minute not hanging out with me will a week Thursday......carry on:lmao:

Dave-- I will miss you not doing the Minnie in May. Now who will keep Jeanne and I under control.

Kim-- We watched the Penguins/Sabres hockey game yesterday. Gosh it brought back memories of my boys when they were young playing on outdoor rinks. I was so glad when they started building more indoor rinks for youth hockey. It has been years since I watched an outdoor game. I can't imagine watching or playing in those conditions yesterday.

Work day for me. Sun is shining but it is cold and windy.

A couple of things, How did you figure out what corral you are in?

Packet pickup on Thursday, what time do they open/close. I'm landing at 1:40 or so, could I go there after I check in and pick up my stuff?

I guess I could check my booklet for more info but if you know off the top of your head that would be great.

Also, I have never done this race. can we wear a bunch of clothes "store" them just before we start? Do they have a bag we can drop off and pick up later or do we get some throw away clothes?

On a personal note, a great calm has come over me today and I feel that I"m going to be just fine. I have the sweep times on my desk, the route map and still feel that I will be able to avoid being swept. I look at it and study it so I can be prepared.

Finally a day with temps in the low 30's and no wind, yeah got out for a 3 mile run, it was great and my time was good for me.

Looking forward to seeing ya all.

Somebody (Robert or Charles) more knowledgeable than me will probably answer the right answers, but here's what I know:

The expo opens @ 3 on Thursday for half/full/Goofy packet pickups.

I got a throw away sweat shirt at a local thrift shop in case I need it. If you want to get your clothes back, they need to be in the bag you drop off with your number on it.

HTH!

Nancy Darlin, you and Jeanne are a wild untamed force of nature, to try to control you free sprits would be just wrong. Better to just enjoy the beauty and mischief that you pretty princesses bring to the group.

Our absence at the Minnie will make the Tower of Terror even more special for us. We just need to get some procedures done that will require some healing time.

We will of course miss you and Jeanne and all the rest of the wonderful team.

Denise--- If you click on Robert's running forum site and then the information about the corrals. Just look for your number and then you can find your corral.

No training to report yesterday, but plan on going to gym tonight. The down side it that all the new people who just joined the gym, will be there hogging up all the TM. Of course after 2 weeks you will never see them again.

It is to cold and windy to walk outside today, but to warm up by the weekend for my LW.

Dave--- You always make me feel special after I read your posts.

Nancy: It was fun to watch, looked like shinney or pond hockey. I would have liked to be there it would have been great atmosphere!!!

Wow looked a little chilly in Orlando today but suppose to warm up for marathon weekend, nothing crazy but I am leaving to cold I don't want to fly 2.5 hours for more cold:confused3

Who has started to pack. I will not pack this trip until Wed night, we fly out Thursday morning, since we are only going for a few nights, not alot to pack anyways and the next few days for us are crazy.

Did 4K last night, man it was cold but it is done. Going for 8 tonight. I am starting to feel like I will be ready, just want to stay ahead of the sweepers and get my medal......it's all about the hardware:lmao:

... we plan to do the Tower of Terror in Oct.

Proud and Powerful Party Panda--In 2008 I am shooting for the Tower of Terror in October (the full brewed version this time rather than the light) and a half marathon somewhere. Should we get a 2008 Tower of Terror thread going. Maybe this year it will run smoother. I have heard unconfirmed, made-up, no hint of reality rumors from non-existent, unauthorized sources that Wayne Newton, Tom Jones, The Goo-Goo Dolls and Hannah Montana solo (Myle Cyrus is apparently already booked somewhere else) might all be performing at the after-party. Good news too. I finally received my Inaugrual 2007 Tower of Terror Pins that Disney had been unable to locate since immediately following the race.

Also, just for fun and in honor of the Iowa Caucuses, I want to start a poll:

At the 2009 WDW Marathon Weekend -- Bill should:

A. Do the Donald.

B. Do the Mickey.

C. Do both A and B (thus equalling the Goofy)

D. Do the Hustle (sorry-still trying to get over the New Year's Eve party with 5 adults and 12 kids between the ages of 5 and 15)

E. None of the above -- just stay home and stop harassing the WISH Walking Wonders.

Feel free to include an explanation. I'll make the assumption that the poll results will be unscientific and I am not sure what the margin of error would be. My current thinking is to maybe aim high by signing up for the Goofy and if I am not able to do both, then do either just the half or the full and consider the fees for the other one a donation. I would intend and train to do both, however, as I would not want to take a "Goofy" spot from someone else who actually would do both.

Kim--I am kind of liking the current whether. It was 7 degrees Fahrenheit this morning (-14 degrees Celsius), with low humidity.;) It feels good to get out without sweating.

Bill: I am certainly not an expert on this subject but I would have to vote for your attempting the Mickey in 2009. Whether you complete a half this year or not, the ToT a good lead in at 8 miles (my longest LR for the half so far) and will let you know if you can do it or not. Save the Goofy for the 5th anniversary medal in 2010!!

Linda and I are now going to have to skip the final Minnie as well. With unknown of surgery and relocating to new town(and new jobs), we will be saving our time for F&W and ToT. If all goes well 3 weeks today, I might try the DL 1/2.

Linda is already planning our next ToT Mini Golf Encounter. It will be bigger and better than ever :thumbsup2 Start signing up today:rolleyes1

I expect to see more Tot info at the marathon expo. Everyone bring your questions and bombard the Disney boooth reps:rolleyes:

Bill: Linda and I will be signing up for the Goofy before my surgery. It is a crap shoot depending on results. Signup for the Goofy and decide what you will do in Jan 09. I am predicting they will increase the Goofy max to 5000. Can you say inside info:confused3 Not!!!!

Hey, I remember that wonderful party......if you were a walker you got to enjoy it for what, 20 minutes?

I was supposed to do a short walk today at the track at the gym. But it was cold this morning (temp in the teens) and my car was all frosted, so I wimped out. If it warms up a bit, I'll do a short 2.25 mile outdoor loop....or maybe not.

Question for the marathoners: what do you suggest we eat the night before? Wendy, Pat, John and I had a great big steak the evening before our half marathon in December and we were all fine. My daughter insists it's good to avoid dairy. Any other suggestions?

Jeanne: Personal preference is to eat a protein based lunch and eat a lighter carb meal for dinner. I personally wouldn't eat a big steak but....

Remember you will be hitting the sack early and getting up really early and proteins(for me) make it hard for me to sleep. I have read that it is better to have your big carb meal 2 days before the race. I do that as well.

Hi Everyone!

Wow, this taper time is so busy for me -- it's actually working out to be a good thing I'm doing shorter walks. My dad and his wife (my mom passed in 2002) are visiting through the 17th, so they can watch ds9 while we do the Half. Dad was here starting Dec. 18th, and dsm arrived yesterday. Anyway, just getting through our regular activities and trying to be "sociable" is exhausting.

We have a Celtics game tomorrow night, ds has basketball Saturday, and since our pastor called on New Year's Day :scared1: I guess we'd better get our lazy selves to church Sunday morning. We are both working until we leave next Thursday, so there's that pesky little detail, too.

I won't start packing until ?. I haven't really given alot of things much thought, which means I guess I'd better start. Not to be a pain, but for those of you who have done a Half before, what do you make sure you pack? I know it's silly, but I feel like I'm going to miss something and really wish I had it. I have BodyGlide and my Wish shirt and hat.

This event is starting to take on that surreal feel I had when I gave birth. I thought I was prepared, I knew what was going to happen, but once it started I felt pretty clueless and discombobulated. And when it was over, I was happy but still couldn't figure out exactly how everything worked, I just felt dazed and confused. And the following three months were a sleepless blur...

Any and all advice for newbies is very gratefully accepted!

Kim -- It sounds like you have your mileage well in hand and you are all set. I know what you mean about the hardware, I want that :donald:

Nancy -- I wish the new gym folk would do half as much and last twice as long. They hit everything like they're going to lose 30 lbs. in a week, and then when they don't they give up. (Been there, done that) Slow and steady wins the race! :snail:

Dave -- Well, that's just great, Dave! Now you've got me wanting to do another event...After a Half, ToT should be a breeze, right?!:woohoo:

Denise -- I am going to follow your lead and try to figure out when I could get swept, and how I'm going to tackle the course. We can do this!:thumbsup2

I guess we might have to huddle together for warmth -- will that mean "Snuggle Panda"?!:goodvibes

Doing 40 minutes today, on the TM to avoid frostbite!
Maria:cold:

Robert: so sorry to hear that you're not going to participate this year. (Linda is still doing it, right?) Of course, your health must come first. At this point, I'll probably be doing both the Minnie and the TofT. I haven't signed up for the Minnie yet, but have my ressie at OKW for the dates. I'm still trying to figure out if I need to sign John up as a man or woman. He says he wouldn't mind running with a "Juanita" bib!
I thought John might have had a conflict with the TofT this year. There's a conference he needs to attend for his profession and we just found out it's in November this year, so it's not an issue.

Good news.....I just started getting my email notifications again!

Jeanne: Linda will be watching from the sidelines with me. I have ressies for BWV in May that I will need to cancel as well.

Juanita is a great name. Tell him not to forget the wig:)

Stacey, Jeanne, Bill and Bob -- Just wanted to say, "Hi!". Oh gosh, I probably left someone else out, too...

Here's a general shout out to all the Walkers --

WooHoo! Let's Go!
