Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

All this philosophy is way to complicated for me.....couldn't we just say "I drink, therefore I'm drunk" :rotfl:

Sure, that works too. Where is Dave when we get into these important discussions. Robert would probably just tell us to sign up for some Disney event and forget thinking about all this useless stuff. Robert appears to be more of the realist, you know--there it is so go do it.

Let's see how this works......I make wine and beer. I don't drink wine and beer much, therefore I am not ??? Is that right?:lmao:

OMG guys I thought I had gone into the Men only thread by mistake.

My lady, her banker friend and I, went for an overnight partying stay in Nashville last year. We ended up in a decidedly upper crust establishment called the CatFish Camp. The ladies drank the place out of margrita fixings.

Has anyone noticed how many views we have on our walking thread? Some of the runners must peek in to see what we can possibly have to talk about. I guess we are the MeerKat Manor of the WISH Boards. The same thing has happened over on Roberts site.

Now down to business. I walked a brisk 2 hours this morning, about 9ish miles. I don't use the Garmin, Erica uses it when we go together. It was a cooler 71 degrees with humidity about 100%. I did manage not to get rained on though.

Kim, are you and Jeanne trying to crupt sweet little Connie? She will be our designated adult supervision when any drinking is going on.:flower3:

Bill, buddy, whatever are we to do with you?

You know I never get philosopical, I'm just a redneck country boy with an extremely well developed knack for getting my self into trouble.pirate:

Y'all have an enchanting evening.

OMG!!!! It just hit me Connie has a 'still', she is making home brew! She is a moonshiner, 'white lighting'. I bet she has a super stock Dodge in the garage for making her deliveries.pirate:

Connie in my part of the country, that makes you Royalty.:cloud9:

This is Dave slinking off now......

Dave: DH and I will be away without kid supervision so we will need all the adult supervision we can get. :woohoo:

I am always getting myself into trouble and I can do it without any help:thumbsup2

I can see it now, by the time this years racing season is over the staff at WDW will tremble uncontrollably at the mere mention of The WISH Team.pirate:

Getting in trouble is an art form. Not just anyone can do it. :rolleyes1

Can't wait to meet all you cool people.:grouphug:

Dave, I DO have a Dodge! :rotfl:

Beau and Luke are on the payroll!! Poor General Lee, died, though. :sad2:

You know, to paraphrase an old country song........A country Girl CAN survive! Like Royalty, sometimes! princess:

:snooty: Thanks, Dave!

For those that are interested, the course maps for the TofT are up. I am finding them a little bit difficult to read. The 6.5 K is clear enough but it starts (or ends?) somewhere off the map in no man's land. The 13K is oriented differently and the map of the park is very crudely drawn so I'm not sure what is what. Mickey's hat is not in the right position relative to the Chinese theatre which seems to be turned sideways? Anyone else have difficulty with this?

Jean, I posted a kindof explanation of what I figured out under "ToT maps are up" thread.

If you print the maps, it makes the explanation a little clearer. The 6.5 map is like an inside view of the 13K route once you are in MGM/Hollywood Studios. That red line on the left side of the 6.5 map is Osceola Prkwy, the road in front of WWoS. So to follow the 6.5 route, start on the 13K map. It will probably start in the parking lot of WWoS, turn left on Osceola Prkway, turn right up the ramp to MGM/Hollwood Studios, the right again into the MGM/Hollywood area. Once inside the park, the 6.5 map works. HTH!!

You are right, though. These are pretty hastily put out maps..no water or aid stations marked. Maybe they think because it's at night we don't need water??!! :goodvibes Anne

Thanks, Anne......I didn't realize there was a separate thread for this. off to check it out now!

Guys, be a walker and be proud of it. Walking is a different sport form running, being a walker doesn't mean you are less of an athlete than a runner.

We have some newer people who are on our forum so I want to say this again.

I was not a walker for 2 years, I was a crippled runner, trying to walk/run in the right ratio to heal as a runner and went from one injury to another. One day after a perticularly horrid race I made the decision that I was done being an injured runner and was ready to be an athlete again.

I would do a 5k and limp baddly for days after and when I was finally able to start again I would get to about 9 miles a week and then have to lay off and walk again for a while.

Once I made the decision that I was done running hurt and would be a walker, I was able to start training and improved quickly. All the running rules apply to walking. They are a similar sport in that you train the same and must follow the same cautions.

A good training walk starts slow for a mile or so till you are warm and sweating. Then you increase your speed and get in a grove, or cruising speed and do the majority of your walk at that pace which is comfortably brisk. Then toward the end you pick up the pace just a bit and finish strong. This is what a tempo walk is. It should be the main part of your training.

An LSD day is like a tempo except that you don't go quite as fast as a tempo but further. Adding miles each week in small doses like adding one mile every week. Every third week drop back about 30%. This is a once or twice a week walk. Followed by an easy day.

A speed training day can be done in several ways. You can warm up good and then do as fast as possible laps of the track, with a slow recovery lap in between. You can do a short tempo with a faster than normal pace. You can do a tempo with telephone pole to telephone sprints followed by slower recovery walking.

With this kind of training you can improve as a walker and be well within the cutoff times for the half and full marathons. You need not fear the sweeper.

Wendy does half and full marathons all over the country and finishes the races within the cutoff times, as a walker.

If you are carrying a litle extra fluff, then walking can be a much better sport for you than running. If you haven't exercised for a long time, be a walker first, then after you get a good fitness base if you want to try running go for it. You don't hear from the thousands of people who decide to get in shape and do a race but get hurt soon after they start and drop out. Those same people might have suceeded if they had chose walking instead of running to start.

There is nothing wrong with running. I wish I still had the option to do both. My point is that both walkers and runners are athletes and should respect each other's accomplishments. And a walker shouldn't feel like less of an athlete.

Ok off my soap box, sorry about being long winded there.

Only got a 4K on for tonight, surprises me that 18 sleeps or so (but who is counting) before my 1/2 I am doing just 4K but I guess this is the beginning of a taper process????

Have a super day all

Kim

Well, you all have been busy again! I am back at work full time and doing my training, so am finding it a little difficult to find time to sit down at the computer here at home. It's fun reading all your posts when I do, though!

Dave, truth is, I am like Connie - not much of a drinker (except for water and the occasional celebratory diet pepsi). I tend to be very boring when I drink as I just fall asleep after about 2 drinks, so I have a lot more fun NOT drinking and enjoying the party! LOL! I'm glad Erica is feeling better. Thanks for the post about walkers/runners. I hope to look up the website about walking styles when I have a little more time.

Kim, I'm sorry you don't have park passes for this trip, but I am looking forward to meeting you on Saturday!

Bill, I'm glad to hear you're feeling a little better. Congratulations on continuing to exercise and work out as much as possible, even when you were really hurting. That's quite an accomlishment!

I haven't yet seen the ToT maps, but Connie told me about them. Good thing she helps me stay up on all the current events! (Dave, I had to laugh when you said you supposed she had a super stock Dodge for deliveries, as I knew she DOES drive a Dodge! LOL)

My walk Monday was great! Thirty degrees makes SUCH a difference! It was 60 degrees when I finished, as opposed to last Thursday, when it was 89 hot degrees! I did my four miles at 15:16 mpm! I LOVE walking in cooler weather. I am really hoping to be under 15 minutes by the end of the month....

Gotta get to work! You all make yourselves a great day!

Kathy

Kathy if the truth be known, Dave drinks so rarely that 2 beers gives be a major buzz. Erica is the same way, she can party hardy till late in the evening but getting out of bed the next day ain't gonna happen. We tie one on about once a year and just an occasional drink the other times. Yes we are even nuttier when we drink. Keep this between us ok. SHHHHHHH.

I can't wait to meet you and Connie, visions of skipping through the Magic Castle.

I had a workout from walker heaven this morning. The temp was 53 degrees with lower humidity. It has been in the 70s when I start and high 80s when I finished. I took advantage of it and went for 4.5 miles on the hills. Total time was 57:05, felt like I could go forever and was a little sad when I was at the walks end.

Anne good to see you over here on the light side, you are a walker to right?

Kim, your not getting excited are you?

Jeanne, how are you liking them Eccos.

Denise, Nancy and Wendy have an awesome day princesses.:flower3:

Dave:hippie:

Dave, Connie, Kathy: That's OK....I can drink enough for all of us....and don't forget the beads!

The Eccos are like mini-pillows on my feet.....I love them! I still have some ugly feet issues so I have not worn them outside. I have to travel towards the end of the month so I will treat myself to a pedicure just prior to leaving and afterwards my feet can be seen in public.

Jeanne we are gonna have the best time.:yay:

Tons of fun, pretty babes, Disney World, booze, good food, beads oh and we are gonna have an 8 mile moving party. Yep life is good.pirate:

I'm loving this cooler weather. I forgot how nice it was to walk in good cool weather. I was very happy that my speed came back with the cooler weather to. Trying to walk good times in intense heat is mission impossible.

Have a wonderful evening y'all.:flower3:
