Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

Welcome Kathy :cheer2: First congratulaions on your weight loss, I remember Steffwalks commenting about her weight loss before. I am knew to this group just this year and other than CreativeBeth (my coworker), Jeanneg and TigerLily, I have not meet the rest of these wonderful people. It won't take you long to get to know people once you start posting. So don't be shy. The ToT is a fun race so the majority of us are not looking at being competetive during that race, so just come and enjoy we are going to be at the back of the pack. I hope you continue to recover from your surgery.

Mr. DB--Good job on your 5K on the TM.

Dave--- That is a big variety of music from Country to VH1. I love the duet with Rheba and Kelly Clarkson that they show on CMC.

I did a 9 miler today on the trail. The weather was perfect for walking. It is to bad that I just wasn't into it today. It was a struggle, but got it done. Last week I felt so good and felt positive about doing the full marathon. This week, I wondering what the heck am I doing this for. I feel like this is becoming a job. :worried: And not one that I really want to be doing.

Nancy

Nancy! Hang in there. I am one of those who gets depressed after a big race. I sometimes think it is all the preparation and time and planning and the race is over and my head gets empty! :lmao:

Or maybe it's the let down of accomplishing a goal.

Or maybe it is the exhaustion.

Or maybe it is the release from stress.

Or maybe the need to set a new goal.

Or MAYBE it is because all of a sudden, my head gets empty!!! :lmao:

Anyway, it is normal. Take it easy and get some rest and don't push too hard! You will get back to all the fun very, very soon!! Can't wait to meet everyone at the ToT!!!

Kathy, welcome darlin, just jump right in on any of the discussions. We are really glad you joined us. You will find that this group is a ton of fun, I can't wait for the ToT and our mobile party.

I must warn you that some on here "Just ain't right", watch out for them. They will suck you into their sillyness.

Nancy, get you some kick butt music for your iPod, that always helps me.

Steff thanks for inviting Kathy to join us.

Ok it's time for bed, I need beauty sleep really bad.

Good morning team!!!!!

Well 2 more events next week and life will be back to normal for me but I should be back posting on a regular basis today and training regularly again!!!!!

Family reunion was a blast yesterday, I did a review of it on the weekly thread so I won't bore you all again...;)

Wendy Thank you for asking....I am excited and terrified....I am not sure I am ready, this month has just been nuts, I haven't gotten alot of training in, but I have the next 6 weeks to pick it up. I was terrified before the Minnie as well and did just fine so I think I will be OK. Mike and I are planning on the RnR marathon weekend next year in Virginia Beach...we saw it a while ago but had already registered for the Scotia 1/2 in Toronto so we have it on the radar for next year. Good Luck to you!!!!!

Welcome Steffwalks and Katwalks. You will never find a more supportive group of people anywhere then right here they are all awesome  :grouphug: Also a huge congrats on both of your weightloss!!!!

WWDave Here there buddy!!!! Feel like I haven't chatted with you for a long time. How is yours and Ericas training coming along...I am so out of the loop.

Nancy WTG on your 9M

MrDB Congrats on your 5K

Denise WTG on your 3M

BethHi!!!!. It is you that is doing the Scotia marathon right?? And your doing Virginia Beach also??? WOW!!!!!! I would have loved to do that but don't think I would at all be ready. They are too close together for me...maybe next year:dance3:

Have a great day everyone!!!

Kim

Kim welcome back we missed you.:cloud9:

Erica has a summer cold right now so not sure if she will be up to working out this week. I'll still be hard at it, but I'll let her slide this week if she doesn't want to get out and walk.

We are also thinking about the RnR at Virginia Beach but probably not next year maybe the next.

We have to get Steff and Kathy to share their secrets, although I would bet a big portion of their success was having each other to lean on.

Dave:hippie:

:goodvibes

Thanks for all the warm welcomes! I appreciate it!

Stacy, I am right down the road from you in Canon City! Maybe we could meet up one of these days!

Dave, Steff and I don't really have any secrets. We tell everyone we know! Balanced diet, exercise, and (you're right) lots of support for one another. We have been friends since kindergarten which was quite a few years ago! She lives in Texas and I am in Colorado, but we IM each other every day and report in. There've been lots of times I didn't eat something because I knew I'd have to confess!

I am thrilled this morning because I walked 1.35 miles at a 15.25 mpm pace, which I think is pretty danged good for having surgery 17 days ago! It was hard work, but it felt good to be out there doing something! Tomorrow will be even better! :cloud9:

I hope all of you make a great day!

No training for me today. Went to Hersheypark to see the entertainment. Bob Mercer and 100 years of Music. It was so good we stayed for the 2nd set.

katwalks--- Way to go on that walk.

Kim-- Glad you had a blast at family reunion. I'm sure you will do great on your half marathon with all the training you have done.

Steffwalks--- Thanks for the encouragement, I just think right now I'm in a funk for some reason. I need to stop looking at what all I need to do to train for the marathon and just take it one week at a time.

Dave--- I do not even own an ipod, I have a CD player that I have belt it fits into and use that. Some day I will get into the 21st century. Is Erica a nurse?

Weekend is almost over.

Nancy

Hey, everybody! How's it going! It's late (((since when is 9:00 late???))) I thought I would catch up with everyone.

I got my LR in today. Actually it was perfect running weather. It was cool, rainy at times but not a downpour, and not many people on the Rail Trail. That's as good as it gets for me.....I did 16 miles, and I have to say that it went very well. I didn't get the side pain like last week, and I ran the whole way except for two phone calls to see how it was going. (((my dsis and dh both checked on me))) I finished in 3 hours and 20 min. Not to bad, but I wasn't running for time. Everything held up well, and now I feel more encouraged for this marathon!

Kim: Yes, I am running both. The timing looks ok. I am supposed to be running 8 miles for my LR that week according to my training schedule, so the 1/2 is only a little over. The next week is my 20 miler. So I am pretty much on schedule. I am not racing the VA beach 1/2, I am treating it like a training run. I promised my kids I would run it again, since they had such a good time last year. And, it was before my marathon was planned.

Nancy: Good job on your LW on Saturday. You had a beautiful day for it! So, you liked the HP entertainment this week.....I am glad that worked out!

Hope everyone else had a good weekend!

Beth

Nancy I'm a tech caveman, But let me tell you sister that iPod mini is the best investment I ever made. You can load that puppy right on your PC by down loading CDs or you can buy the music. I have an iPod full of feel good, kicking stuff. It is awesome. Load a couple of hundred songs stick it on suffle (random) and go.

Yes my sweet lady is an RN she is cardiac care and ICU. I'm an optician at a Lenscrafters store, (I'm also retired from the USAF as is Big VIC).

My weekend is just starting. Since Erica works weekend nights we take our weekend together on Mon and Tue.

Dave:hippie:

Good morning Team!!!!

WWDave Sorry to hear Erica isn't feeling well, I think summer colds are worse then winter colds, hope she is feeling better soon.

Katwalks Congrats on getting out there, wow surgery 17 days ago and you are out walking....good for you

Beth Good for you!!!! I would love to do the RnR 1/2 next year it does look like alot of fun. Look for me at the Scotia, I will be wearing my WISH shirt.

Today should be a rest day for me but since I have done nothing but slack off for a bit I am going to get in a 4K today, I am on holidays this week so no excuse.

Have a great day all.

Kim

Good morning Kim, Erica is sleeping in today, she got home yesterday from work and went to bed, slept all day, I got her up to feed her, she went back to sleep and slept all night and is still sleeping now. I think she has gone into hybernation. I guess she will be out by spring.

I going out alone for my walk, probably about 4 to 8 miles. I took a rest day yesterday. Rest days are good.

Walk strong y'all.

Good morning everyone!

Nancy - Just hang in there. It will pass. Don't you hate those funk-y times, though? I have this little spot deep down inside me that keeps hoping (against all odds) that those will eventually go away and never come back and that I'll be able to eat well and exercise hard and think that's as easy as breathing ALL the time! I'm beginning to have a sneaking suspicion that this is never going to happen. But, the funk-y times DO go away - for a while at least!

Beth - sounds like you had a great run this morning! The weather sounds great!

Kim - you've had such a busy time! I'm glad you enjoyed your reunion! I hope you enjoy your walk this morning!

Dave - I hope Erica is feeling better soon! Summer colds are the pits! Does it feel strange to walk without her?? I envy you guys that have walking partners. I get tired sometimes of going by myself. On the other hand, sometimes that's the only private time I get all day, too!

I was considerably slower this morning. My heart rate was a little too high yesterday, so I decided to slow down and go further. I went 2.27 miles at a 17:20 mpm pace. I am sure I will get faster somewhere down the road, but I want to work up to walking between 45 minutes and an hour first, then concentrate on building the speed.

You all make great days!

Kathy

Moring Racers!

Nancy - Hang in, relax, get a new cd and rock it out!! YOU CAN leave this funk behind!!

Dave - I agree with Katwalks, having a partner to push you, pull you has to be nice! The only partners Kathy and I have are each other and with 400 miles between us......

Kathy - You are doing great! Can't wait to get on that plane with ya to the ToT!

Kim - Do enjoy you time off!

Did a three mile this morning! Felt good, but a little slower than I would have liked.

Steff and Kathy, Erica and I only get to train together on Mon and Tues which is our weekend. The rest of the week we are on our own. That's good though because we train for different kinds of racing. I compete in short races usually 3K, 2 mile, 5K and occasionally a 10K. Erica doesn't do anything less than a 10K since she is not speedy but has good endurance. From half marathon distance on she and I are about equal. She will do the 2 mile on labor since it's on our day off together and I compete in that one.

I went out for a 4 miler on my hills. I planned to do it twice but it was very hot and muggy by the stime I started and I was bucking a wind on the hills so I stopped after one loop.

Walk strong y'all.

DAve:hippie:

Kathy, that is incredible! I was in Canon City Tuesday to take my DS 17 for his driver's test! It's a small world after all!

Welcome Kathy......and anyone else new I may have missed.

We just got back from WDW. I brought my Garmin but never used it. With all the park activity, I got in lots of training. I took my pedometer and used it to record my outside miles (when I was not at the hotel). I logged in 57 miles in 6 days which is pretty good. We had one day when we were parked out and just went to the movies and the pool so that day was low mileage.......the rest were all over 10. Who says doing the parks isn't good exercise?

Nancy: don't worry about your funk......once it gets a little cooler, you'll do fine. I do love my ipod though! I think you can get a shuffle for about $85. They hold about 120-150 songs. I am really very tech illiterate, but my kids taught me how to do it using music I already own on CDs (unfortunately my old tapes and albums won't work). It's really very easy. With the shuffle you never know what you're gonna get....but it's always something you like!

Steff and Kathy: I hear you loud and clear about being training buddies. Nancy lives in PA and I live in NC. Before we did the Allentown half-marathon we had never even walked together. We knew we had fairly similar paces because we kept reporting on our training times and distances. She did most of her training on a treadmill and I had a pedometer that wasn't always accurate, so it was like comparing apples and oranges. Neither of us knew what to expect, but when marathon day came, we were fine. It was like we had been walking together all our lives. Of course we resolved not to be chatty during the event, but that didn't last.....and was probably the reason our first half was so much faster than the second part! We ended up yakking the entire second half.

Did another 5k today along with weights...dropped almost 2 minutes off my 5k time (and I was only trying to be more consistent not faster). I'm going to try and do this 3 times a week and bump it up to a 10k over time once I've got a stable base to work from. I'm not in shape enough right now for 10k but by Christmas I should be more than fine..

--Mr. DB

Good morning team!!!

MRDBWTG on shaving 2 min of your 5K time that is great!!!

Jean Welcome back, hope you had a great time.

WWdaveWTG on your hills, how is Erica feeling today??>?

Steff WTG on your 3M

Kathy WTG on gettting out there and listening to your body.

I have a 5K on tap for today, will get that done and over with this morning. I am taking my family from England to a Toronto Blue Jays game tonight......yaaaawwwnnnnn!!! I am so not a baseball fan but is it what they want to do, also visit the CN Tower.

Have a great day

Kim

I can guarantee I won't be quiet while doing the Mickey in Jan. I will talk to anyone to help pass the time for those long 26.2 miles.

Steff and Kathy--- Jeanne is so right about our walking pace during the marathon. We looked like we had trained together. It was pretty awesome how 2 people training miles apart could walk the same type of race. I surprised that she didn't whine again that even though we finished in the same time as we held hands to cross the finish line, I was place ahead of her in the standings. :thumbsup2

Kim--- I am so with you that baseball is boring, I spend the game people watching and miss anything that happens on the field. Give me a hockey game anytime.

Mr. DB---Good job on your 5K

I did 4 miles on TM and Pilates. To help me get out of the funk, I am going to cut back a little with my LW until I start real marathon training the first week of Sept. Thanks for all the encouragement. I really do need to get a ipod shuffle to help occupy my mind when walking outside. So may have to make that purchase soon. Before that I need to get new sneakers. I have a coupon for the running store where I buy my shoes so on payday am stopping and buying them. I am still looking for the perfect shoe and still haven't found it. Just when you find something you like they change the style.

Have a great day everyone.

Nancy

Gosh, everyone is so busy, doing fun things and making sure to get walks in! Good for you!

Jean - You didn't say, but I'm hoping you had a great time at WDW!! It's my very favorite place to be!

Mr. DB - you hang in there. It sounds like you're doing great! When I first started, I was VERY overweight. I started on the treadmill (in my own home so no one could see me!) walking 3 mph, no incline, for 20 minutes. That was as much as I could manage at first. This last April I did my first half-marathon! Just gradually increase workouts. If you're like me, you get impatient with how long it takes, but, as I have reminded myself a million times, I didn't get into that horrible shape in a day or a week or a month and I certainly wasn't getting out that quickly either!

Steff - I am anxious for you to get here and for us to get on the plane together to WDW too! Don't get discouraged about your speed - you're coming off that ankle injury. You and I will both TRY to be more patient and we'll do just fine when the time comes!

Stacy - Ah, yes. The wonderful Canon City driver's license office. My children have been grown for a while now (DS 28 and DD 24), but how well I remember sitting there...and sitting there....and sitting there. I hope you took a good book!

Steff and I don't get together very often, usually 2 or 3 times per year, and lately, mostly in conjunction with an event! And we have found we really don't walk at the same pace....although Steff is getting faster and faster! But we enjoy getting together and having fun! We usually take a couple extra days just to play! It's possible that those of us with long-distance walking partners have the best of both worlds - the support we need and the independence to walk/train as we each need.

This morning I planned to walk even slower and go longer, but somehow I managed to go a little faster. Not fast, mind you, but faster! I did three miles with an average pace of 17.06, walked for 51+ minutes AND kept my heart at a reasonable rate too! I am pleased that each day seems to be a little better.

You all keep on keeping on! I LOVE this thread! It's so positive and supportive! Thanks!

Kathy
