Walkers Wanna Compare Notes??

Good Luck Dave

Oh and by the way, my race mindset was find some walkers and catch up to them, set a little goal along the way - achieve it and then set another goal.

Then, I felt like Dave, I actually passed some runners!!! Now that was a great feeling.

OK, back to work

Dave--- Good luck with your race this weekend.

Nancy

Nancy this race will be interesting. The walkers start 5 min after the runners and there will be several national ranked senior racewalkers there, it will be cool to see if we can catch some runners. It's a 5K in a small town but they give nice trophies and cash prizes. Also the top male and female runners and walkers get a free pair of shoes from the local running store.

The race starts at the town square and goes through the older part of town with lots of rustic turn of the century buildings. One of those towns where the tallest buildings are 2 story.

Thanks for the luck.

Wish me strength and speed this morning guys. I'm off to the battle in Franklin Ky. It's a 5k and I think it will be a warm one.

Have an awesome day everyone.

Dave, Dave...he's our man. :thumbsup2

If he can't do it.....nobody can!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

:rotfl2: So true. Good luck Dave.

The heat and humidity broke and it is a beautiful day. Did 10 mile LW on the rail trail and then 45 minutes of using the mower to do all the trim work. Now need to move onto some inside housework since the maid didn't show up. LOL

Nancy

Thanks so much for the support and cheering, I love you guys. Here is my report. No pics yet, not sure yet if anyone was filming. I was to zoned at the end to notice.

Race day, The Franklin Ky, Garden Spot 5K.

Very hot and humid, but honestly not as bad as it has been so really can't complain. Still felt it though.

The runners/woggers took off at 7:30 and five min later the walkers. I was in good company today, on my right was the Tenn state men's senior champion, and the two other good racewalkers, on my left was the Ky women's state senior champion, the state women's master champion and about six other racewalkers some I'd never seen before. One fellow looked like he could take on the Western States 100, all long ropey muscles and not an oz of exra fat.

When our gun sounded we were off like a pack of wolves smelling dinner, by the first quarter mile five of us were well ahead of the others. I was trying to hang with the good walkers and hit the first mile in a race PR of 10:18. This first mile had been mostly up hill us now I realized why I was hurting.

I decided I better back off the pace or I would never have enough left to finish strong. Had it been a nice cool day on a flat course I would have seen how long I could hold that pace but not today. I was holding a solid third place so I backed off enough that my 2 mile split was about 11:30 average per mile, that was more normal for me in a 5K.

The last mile had more hills and I cought my first wogger at about 2.5 miles. With about a quarter left I rounded a corner and saw the big finish banner. I was still in third place and so I picked it up a bit for a brisk finish.

I was 3rd and won the masters division, nice T-shirt and lots of cold Orance Juice at the finish. Not my best race but it was fun and I got a nice trophy so life is good.

I wore my WISH Colors to, lots on good comments on it.

Hope everyone has a super day.

Denise it is a wicked good feeling to pass a runner.pirate:

Great Job Dave on your race. Your the man.:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Jeanne--- Are you all packed and ready to leave for WDW?

Nancy

My son is 26. I was a drill sergeant today made him do 4 miles and he lived to tell the tale. Tomorrow another 4 miles then I'll ease up a bit on him. He'll be sorry he didn't train better.

Dave, WOW you the main. Placing in a race I just want to finish the darn thing.

Well we've all got the bug - except my son Nick and there is a 8K in a month that we're going to sign up for. Whoo Hoo. Let's rock and roll.. I wait for no one on this race.

Have a great day. Again Way to go Dave!

I wish.....

We leave tomorrow at 8am.....pretty much packed except for toiletries and my small carry-on. The boys have trashed the house in only 2 days....it's not going to get clean before we leave which is killing me. I'll be happy tomorrow when I get to WDW. Right now I'm just a little STRESSED!!!!!!:scared1:

I learned a couple of things from today's hot and humid race.

I need to do a complete warm-up even if the temp is in the 80s and the humidity high. I get a burning in my shins if I try to walk fast without a good warm-up. Today because it was so hot, instead of a good half hour of walking at various speeds alternating with gentle stretching. I just did about 15 min of slow walking and a lot of chatting with the other walkers. I suffered with burning shins the first mile of the race and if I had warm-up properly I would have been more comfortable.

I need to check my watch prior to time to start. I was going to start the timer but my last training walk time was still on there. I didn't have time before the starting gun to change it so I didn't have the timer for the race.

Don't let people mist/spray me with a water hose. It gets all over my glasses and is more irritating that the little cooling effect it gives me.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Erica and I went to the mall before it opened for a brisk 4 mile walk. It was already hot out so the mall won out.

I was a bit sore anyway from the race on Saturday so 4 miles was plenty.

Dave:hippie:

Ya it's hot here too and very humid - not sure if I'll do the track tonigh or the tm/ellip in front of the air conditioner.:sad2:

Miranda wants to do something we'll see. I gave Nick the night off but I'll be cracking the whip tomorrow on him.

Have a good day.

Erica and I went to the park for a brisk 6 miler. She did really well, she hasn't downloaded the garmin but it felt about 14 mpm.

I think I tied my right shoe to tight because the top of my right foot is hurting a little. I have some ice on it so maybe it will be find. I hate getting an ache and pain because I'm afraid it will ground me for a while.

Have an awesome day guys.

Dave: Last night we did 4 miles in the on the road with a big hill on mile 3 (my worst mile), it was tough but we managed it. I had to lengthen my stride and pump my arms to make it up the hill. Took us 1 hr.

It wasn’t hard, I wasn’t very tired and my legs didn’t hurt so I think we need to make it a longer route.

I have today off AND I’m going for my monthly neck massage, oh ya it’s a good day.

I did 5k meters yesterday at the gym...most I've ever walked on purpose...was getting substantial "chub rub" so I think I'm going to have to invest in some body glide. I felt good though and I'm going to work on 5k's for the foreseeable future and then raise it to 10k once I get too comfortable.

--Mr. DB

Denise, if you do that hill a couple of times a week then have a good hill in your regular route it won't be long before the hills are nothing. I do some hills every workout unless it's an interval session on the track or a treadmill workout. I can do hills like they are not even there but any incline on the treadmill kicks my butt. Wierd I know.

DirtyBunny. Glad to hear you have upped the distance. Remember distance first and when it gets easier, increas speed, but never both at the same time.

Body glide is great for the rub till your skin toughens. Once it toughens you won't need it any more.

Glad you joined the thread.
