Walk-on's

My big concern is overcrowding at pools by trespassers, non DVC resort guests. I think that wristbands should be issued at check-in for all registered guests with their names imprinted on them. This way all legal guests would have identification readily available. If pool hopping is allowed then the wristband would prove they were DVC resort guests and entitled to pool hop. No need for multiple bands. JMHO.

Why could the bus drivers, boat drivers etc simply look at your room cards when you board ? Just hold it out and after awhile everyone would know. I know there are some people who come to visit the resorts, but they could get a 20 min pass or call front desk and get a number or somthing just to make it a little harder to get in, people are lazy and wont go to the trouble to do this. :confused3

You are staying for a leisurely stay at SSR. You are enjoying the paths and the resort when a cast member comes up and says "excuse me, may I see your room key or resort pass." The first time this happens to you you think "hey, security" After you've been stopped for the tenth time in a week, you are not a happy camper.

I really don't mind if people use the hotel's restuarants or public areas. I think SABs wristband system should be implemented at all pools. All resort exercise rooms should be room key access.

The more a person walks around, the more chances that they will spend their money. Therefore Disney wants guests to "keep moving".

Well being from New York in the wake of 9/11 security has been a issue for me.. I feel that if the public has access to the resort than I have to implament my own personal security (ie follow my kids everyware, alarming my car, keeping my stuff in sight) which i do normally but if I knew all the people at the resort were dues paying members I feel I just might relax alittle more.... Let my kids (13g-10b) walk down to the pool by ahead of US..Blah Blah...wristband hey fine,, check-in,, heres the wrist band "wear it by the pool" OK.. swipe my resort key or park pass at a turnstile to DTD no problem I have it with me... I quess I don't have a problem with the people inside the park area (coming into resort by bus, boat or car) its the others the walkway to DTD @SSR is real close to the highway and anybody can just stoll right in
WE all pay a fee for those buses and such and it would be nice to know that the pride of ownership and my dues are also going to dues paying members. And I know others feel the same way...Freeloaders just anger me

All Disney resorts have resturants and lounges that are open to the public. Not just ticket holders +/or park guests. The more profit they make the better for all. As for non guests using the pool, first of all are you sure they are not just using thier pool hopping privlege. If so just noyify the life gaurd and I'm sure they will be asked to provide identification, and asked to leave if they do not belong there. As for folks strolling around the properties, they could very well be looking around before deciding to buy into the resort. Again if you see any one acting suspicious you should notify security via the front desk. Security at Disney both the parks and resorts is excellent and they do a great job of keeping it out of site but it is there.
Having said that Disney is still part of the real world and bad things can happen. You can relax somewhat but you must still be on your guard. especially with your children. The whacko'sand perverts know there are thousands of children running around in a "fantasy land" and more apt to be trusting than they would be at home....Enjoy the Disney Magic just don't leave your common sense at the gate.

It would be nice if wristband checks were implemented at the more crowded pools...WL for example. The WL pool can be crowded when CR's is not. However there is no need to put in that extra cost every where. The extra cost at WL could be shared between VWL and WL. Fort Wilderness probably should get a theme pool to help reduce the problem.

We have been DVCers for a number of years (1997) and frankly, I haven't encountered hordes of interlopers at any of the resorts. Are there perhaps, on occasion, one or two folks who may have made the effort to drive form their hotel on I Drive to DTD, hop on a bus to one of the resorts and go to a pool??? Well, perhaps, but quite frankly, they are probably few & far between, and certainly not enough of an issue for Disney to institute a "procedure" for.

As far as checking IDs when someone is getting on the bus...well, it might be fine midday when the bus is loading a few people, but can you imagine what that would be like after the MK fireworks???

Wouldn't be pretty, I'd have to imagine.

Actually, in the early 1990s they did check resort ID to use resort busses. Each resort had a specifically designed ID card. When they went to the electronic door locking systems they went to generic key cards for security. They only way to know which resort the key is for (without an electronic reader) is to check the account number on the front.

Room charging used to be manual, you had to state your resort and code number along with room# and check out date, again that changed with the electronic key system.

You need your room key to open the gate at HH and VB pools, right? Why can't they do something like that at WDW's pools and fitness rooms?

Ironic that you mentined the gate at HH---just this afternoon we drove to Shelter Cove and walked over to the HH DVC resort. No, we didn't swim (of course), but we walked around and visited the Mercantile shop. The reason? Last night at midnight we returned from a week+ at Disney, including a wonderful stay at VWL---the whole family was having major Disney withdrawals today, so when my dd suggested a visit to DVC-HH, it sounded like a delightful suggestion. Just looking at the Disney merchandise cheered everyone up! We bought a few things and sauntered home. So, once again, you don't really need a key to access any Disney resort.

I think walking around the resorts is ok. I have walked around different resorts, to go to the restaurants or just to see if I'd like staying there on my next trip. Just last week, my sister visited me at BWV. She did not swim or use hotel ammenties. She was getting her dd settled into college in Florida and I had them come by and pick up my unused food and laundry detergent for her new dorm room. I just think the pools and fitness rooms are a different story-just as they are at HH and VB.

I remember a couple of times we had to show our resort I.D. in order to get on the bus at DTD to go back to our resort. I remember thinking that it was a good idea so that people couldn't just park at DTD and then take a bus to a resort and then go on to the parks. I don't think we were asked to do this the past few times we went though.
