Wal-Mart (or any store, really) pricing errors - how hard would you argue?

I use the Walmart app to scan things while in store, so I never would have made it to the check out with them. It's specific to location and knows which store you are in, so it's very accurate.

Do you use the Sam's app too? Especially the Scan and Go one? I love it!

Same here. I've gotten so that I scan anything on sale or clearance. I just don't trust the signs any more.

Pricing error in Aldi, you get the item for free. I think only one. The shelf price tag, listing item sku and price, has to be lower then scanned price.

OP, an employee made a mistake. Barring a local law the store doesn't have to honor it. What is store policy?

This "customer is always right" mantra is one of the worst things to ever happen to retail. It makes employees unhappy, it gives abrasive customers an advantage, it makes overall customer service worse, and sometimes customers are just plain wrong.

People make mistakes, that doesn't give shoppers the right to take advantage of every situation in which that occurs.

I agree, and as stated in my earlier post, I didn't push it beyond pointing out that it shouldn't have been in the $1 or less section. If they'd offered to sell them to me for $1 I'd have happily taken them but they didn't so I left it alone. For the record, it took 2 weeks before they finally moved them ...... to the $5 or less section, still $11.

BUT, this Wal-Mart has a history of shady pricing and awful management. I try not to shop there if I can help it, but they're right next to work. The other wal-mart in town doesn't do stuff like this.

I have started taking pictures of things that might not have tags and there is only signage or a label on the shelf, or I think wow that really can't be the right price can it... It saves on having to get someone go look and then stand there are arguing with them about the price...

Like they say a pictures worth a thousand words...

My guess would be it was an error. An under-paid, frazzled employee with too much to do in any one day may have scanned the item with their portable scanning gun and on the small screen thought they saw 1.00 instead of 11.00. So I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that they were trying to scam me or anything, BUT, I would stop by the actual customer service desk if it wasn't terribly inconvenient and tell them about it rather than a passing employee or a cashier. If the hook of items were small enough I likely would have brought the whole thing with me if I was going to bother at all. At least then they're in a position to have to return it to the sales floor somewhere, so perhaps they'll get it where it belongs this time around.

I worked retail (although not a big box store) in my high school & college years, so I do admit may make my perspective and actions in dealing with any retail related snafus different from others, though. :)

Oh gosh, yes. People who have never worked retail would likely be astounded at the behavior of customers, either because they are actively trying to pull a con or just due to entitlement. But yeah, the customer is very often very far from right. And they are quite often quite abusive while being quite wrong as well. The stories I could tell!

I promise, I'm never rude to customer service folks. I don't understand people who are. You can get a lot further by being nice to people than you ever will by being rude.

I've worked retail and fast food so I do understand.

Absolutely - my comment wasn't an indictment of you.

Just from prior experience I can see how these discussions normally go and a lot of people think they can treat retail workers like garbage and get away with whatever they can, so it was just a general comment about that.

I have a horrible time at JayC (smaller Kroger store - owned by Kroger). They do these “buy 5, save $5” type deals almost every week. They constantly don’t take the $5. I started using the self scanner. I can see on the screen that the system recognized my 5 qualifying items, but didn’t take the money off.

I also bought meat once that was labeled like:

Regular Price $20
Your Price $5
You Save $15

Then it rang up as the “you save” price.

So, I watch everything there and make them change it when it’s wrong.
