In my opinion anyways. Each item must be atleast 15.00 not 14.95 but a full 15.00... I started stacking my cart when I realized the cost of all these $15 and up items :headache: I was getting toys to meet the qouta instead of picking up the items my kids actually wanted!! I emptied the cart and only ended up with 2 LeapPads and 2 Explorer games! I planned on getting iPod Touches but they didnt have the white ones nor did they have the otterbox cases I want. Ohh well =) Back to shopping the regular way

I went to Walmart also this morning to see about putting some items on layaway and ended up realizing I really didn't have enough items to do layaway. Walmart sometimes has great deals on line for ipods and if you do ebates or shopathome you can always get a small refund through them. Oh well...I still think it was great for them to bring it back...maybe it will help some people out.

I think bringing it back was a step in the right direction. You are right, though, having all the criteria to meet can make it more trouble/expensive than it is worth. I'm finding better prices + no tax/free shipping from Amazon is making it more worth my while to shop online....brick and mortars are going to have to step it up unless they plan to become obsolete. With things the way they are right now, the average shopper is counting every penny. Good for you for realizing you were overspending just to be able to do layaway (wonder if that was their evil plan )

I'm thinking of getting a TV and mulling over using this. On the one hand, $5 is reasonable for a larger purchase plus only having two months to pay would see to it that I paid if off quickly. On the other hand, I'd have to pay it off quickly. ;)

We do not have a credit card so this would help others without credit cards I like the idea =)

DH and I are going to use this to either fund our first flat screen TV, or our nex PS3...I am leaning for the TV...

I am considring this did anyone know if they will price match if u have something in layaway and it goes on sale somewhere else? or even at walmart! I need 3 nooks and a ds game so I thought this would be good way to go.. havent seen nooks on sale anywhere.

I remember that K-mart will give you the sale price if it goes on sale while on layaway. As for Walmart... Not sure sorry, the Wal-Mart I went to had 4 people standing around trying to figure layaway out

I need to put at tv in layaway for my son's christmas present! I wondering if I can put an ipad on layaway too? lol I'm also glad walmart brought it back this year.

For our daughter's 2nd or 3rd Christmas I'd planned to get her a play kitchen. I thought layaway would be a good idea because it'd mean I wouldn't have to hide the large toy in our house, so I made the transaction very early.

I purposefully waited 'til the very last day to pick it up -- again, my goal was to avoid having to hide the toy. I went on December 22nd or 23rd, and I waited in line about 100 years to get to the front of the line to pay-off and claim my item . . . but they'd run out of that kitchen, so they'd sold mine to someone else! They didn't have the item I'd reserved! The item for which I'd made a deposit. I was livid.

They ended up calling another Walmart, and I had to drive over to get it. Talk about crappy service.

It was my first and last experience with layaway.

DH and I have opted to just do the big ticket items. i.e. Flat Screen TV's.
DS(8) and DD(6) have each asked santa for one so the lay-a-way is working for us right now. We had considered waiting for Black Friday or Cyber Thursday:scared1: but are going to go ahead and put them up now, have them out before black friday just in case a better deal comes along we figure we can always return them.

 thats scary!! They actually pull the item out and box them up, so the person with the iPad they pulled it out and boxed it with the persons receipt.

I used wal-mart lay-a-ways years ago and it was a nightmare. MISTAKES everywhere and it took forever to pick up our items. I think I saw where the pick up date is December 16. Be sure to ask how they will handle the pick-ups and crowds. WE found most people waited to the end to get the stuff out.

When I saw it done back ten years ago, each person's items were marked and tagged, then placed into cubbies. So all the bikes went on a rack with each person's tag as 1 of 3 bags. So they would know if all the items were there.

Although if I remember correctly, lay away ends about a week or so before Christmas (never the day before). All items had to be retrieved by that date or they would be put back on the sales floor. You wouldn't loose your money, but you were no longer guaranteed that item.

I read that you can pay on your layaway at any register. Is there some percentage or minimum that you pay each time? You only have about two months to pay off whatever you're getting so I'd think that you'd want to accelerate your payments ASAP.

Yes, they told me I could pay at the front of the store at any register, there is no minimum or max, or frequency. Just know you have to have it out by Dec 16 and I would NOT wait till that day to get it out :goodvibes can you imagine the lines!
