This just started a new season on BBC America and I have to say that it's a terrific show. Does this show predate CSI? Did we steal the concept from you guys? I have a feeling we did. ;)

I think CSI came before Waking the Dead. The two shows; apart from the forensic aspect, are quite different. CSI deals directly with mainly current cases and the crime scene investigations involved, while Waking the Dead deals with 'cold cases'.
The 'cold cases' are crimes that have were never solved in the past and either new evidence or better forensic techniques results in the cases being re-opened. The 'cold case squad' in Waking the Dead, as well as having a forensic pathologist, also hase regular police detectives and a criminal psycologist to try and solve the cases.
The boss in Waking the Dead used to star in private detective show called 'Shoestring'.

I enjoy both shows (and CSI: Miami - although I prefer the original Las Vegas version).

There is another show in the UK called Silent Witness. This is an upmarket Quincey type show about a lady pathologist. Ypu will have to look out for that one in the US too :)

I love Waking the Dead too, Steph. We're much more "staid" in our approach to forensics over here, though, aren't we:rolleyes: There are re-runs on one of our cable channels currently, yippee.

Trevor Eve, the star, also played a PI in a show called Shoestring, back in the 80s I reckon it was now.

Is there a new series of CSI both) soon - really fed up with seeing the same episodes over and over:crazy:

Thanks for replying Annie and Tim.

Oh yes, there's a new CSI season playing right now. I record them every week, Mondays and Thursdays. You're right about the staid bit Annie, at least you don't get the blood, guts and gore that's a hallmark of CSI. Don't you just love those sound effects, when they delve into a wound? It's so gross. :( There's a recent episode where this poor fellow gets his head cut off, and it shows up at the lab in box. It's really icky; fair warning.

I've noticed something about CSI. Why do they always investigate a crime scene (in a house) with a flashlight? I mean, why don't they turn on the lights?

I'm hooked on Waking the Dead. Such good scripts, story lines, and actors. Has the show been running long over there? How long are your seasons? A typical season over here runs about 23 episodes.

I'm with you on CSI Miami Tim. The Las Vegas one is much better. I think it's the actors. Eric from CSI Miami is a hottie, but you can keep the rest of them, especially that woman who plays Calli--horrible southern accent.

Their website is kinda cool.

Steph, can you tell me if Grissom gets his hearing fixed?

The last series we got here ended with him going in for his operation.

.. another fan of Waking The Dead here!
I have great respect for Sue Johnston (sp?) as an actress and I used to enjoy Shoestring so also good to see Trevor Eve regularly too.

Tim, I'd forgotten all about Grissom's hearing problem. I have a vague memory of it being mentioned in the first show of the season. It must have been fixed, cause it hasn't come up again.

I hope you're feeling better.

And why do they always do post-mortem (autopsy) scenes in the dark with mood spotlighting?? How can they see?? Has the director never been in a post-mortem room?

I like Waking the Dead - fab actors - but can't be doing with Silent Witness.
