So last weekend we went back up to The Sun Outdoors in Stonington Ct. This trip wasn't on our Calander till our return trip from Cape Cod in June. When we got there, while I took the Savage Sisters across the road to the dog Lucille decided to look for someplace new to eat. As the Mohegan Sun Resort is only 20 minutes away she decided to look and see what they offered. Don't ask me how but somehow instead of finding a place to eat she found out Sir Rod Stewart would be performing there on Sat Sept. 7th. She is a HUGE fan of his. As long as Tobie is in the band I am happy to tag along.
The drive up wasn't too bad considering that I-95 in Ct. officially is the land of PHANTOM ROAD PROBLEMS. They post signs indicating slowdowns ahead and when you get there you find no reason for them. Still, everyone slows down and don't speed back to Highway speed until the stated distance has been covered.
After parking and doing our hook ups. The girls got a trip to Dog Park and fed. We headed off to The Mystic Diner for our dinner. This is a standard stop for us now.

The following morning the Girls actually let me have a cup of coffee before they demanded to go to the dog park. Katie AKA Chunk even let me put her Help Em UP Harness without too much of a fight. Once they were taken care of I broke out my Grill and Cuisinart Griddle . I still am in shock. I thought for sure Bama Ed was going to show up any minute considering I was making Scrapple, Cheese and Tomato Omelettes for my breakfast.
Breakfast now over I reached out to my cousin who lives just over the border in Rhode Island to see if he and his wife wanted to get together while we are there. Instead of mostly working from home he now spends 3 to 5 nights in Manhattan and the only days he would be home so were Saturday and Sunday. Joanne his bride was working Sunday so tough call.
We decided that since we have never been to Mohegan Sun a recon was in order. This proved to be a very wise decision. The place Is huge. This trip all we did was look for the ARENA and Box Office and we still got turned around. We did discover a local place we intend to try in October on our next trip to visit my Aunt and Uncle.

Unfortunately they are only open till 2pm.

Welcome back to my fun... I will sing the song of stupid CT interstates with you every time you come back to the area! I still suggest (if it ever works out) a stay at Fisherman's Memorial State Park campground in Narragansett, RI... close to beach and I would suggest Aunt Carrie's or Iggy's for seafood lunch or dinner (Aunt Carrie's also has great bakery treats!!). Booking opens 12 months ahead... I would suggest booking area 1 for the site sizes and views. Area 1 and 2 have full hookups, but for a first visit I would not book area 2 sight unseen as some of the sites are steep hills that require a lot of leveling, etc... and most are not so nice as area 1. There are some sites I would be ok with in there, but by far I would say area 1 if you are going to try it out. (I also like a few in area 4, but w/e only and once again, safer to see first. Area 1 I would be happy with any available site.

Looking forward to how the rest of your trip went!

Wow! Rod Stewart!

I expected your post was going to say something like, “it’s late September and I really should get back to school”!

Hope ye enjoyed the show!

Jim,
I-95 in Ct is about as much fun as do it yourself root canal without sedation and instructions in Korean. Still the trip up wasn't that bad. This Sun Resort like most works for us. As a vet they give us a 20% discount for stays over 2 nights . As I get their newsletter sometimes I can get that upped to 25 or 30 and on very rare occasions book it 40. That and if my cousin is home his wife works right in Mystic so the 4 of us can go to dinner when she gets off.

I go to Mohegan Sun a lot to see music. If you want any restaurant recommendations let me know. Lots of yummy options!

Saturday was concert day. The girls and I started the day off with a walk around the dog park loop until it was free. Made some scrambled eggs and sausage for breakfast. before we made a BIG Y shopping run. Got some basics we can use and some Boar's Head Cold Cuts. We did go into the Boroughs section of Stonington for a late lunch at a place my cousin took us to in June. The DOG WATCH CAFE. Happily, this time there was no Kitchen Fire so the full menu was available.
The wings were amazing. So Crispy I swear they were triple fried. Lucille went for the Dog Salad and Open Face Steak sandwich. I opted for the Fish ( Mahi Mahi) Tacos . We recommend all these. Then back to feed and take the girls out before we left. but
At Mohegan Sun it looked like the parking lot was full but we found a spot right next to the elevator. When we got into the arena somehow, we got reassigned seats 3 rows closer to the stage. He came out 2 minutes late but for me, Tobie the real talent came out right on timeResized_20240907_200906_1726362900855.jpegResized_20240907_201320_1726362968910.jpeg
This is Tobie. Her real name is J'Anna but he called her Tobie the first time dragged me off to see him and for me it stuck. We were close enough when he was center stage we had an unobstructed view of him most of the time.

My only regret was I couldn't get a good shot of his green shoes

The show lasted a full 2 hours. He did some of his long-standing favorites and a few of his covers. His kicking soccer balls out the audience at the end of the show is a thing of the past. Heck he is 80 so no complaints. Not having an opening act he didn't do an encore.
We did try our luck at the slots and walked away even. So we won. After getting back the Girls needed a trip across the street. Thank heavens for Katies's Help Em Up harness . Her Hips are riddled with arthritis and the inside steps are too steep for her. 20240609_151038.jpg
This also lets me hold her back when she tries to fly out the door to go out and keeps her from falling and hurting herself.

Sunday.
Despite events of the day before leading to a late night for everyone, Katie and Sky found it Necessary to make sure at 6:30 am to make sure I hadn't been abducted by aliens. Once I was awake they promptly went back to sleep. At least I got to have my coffee in peace.
After church I whipped another batch of Scrapple, Cheese, and Tomato Omelets. Then checked in with cousin. Unfortunately, he was catching an early train back to NYC so meet up this trip. Lucille and I decided another visit to Mohegan Sun was in order and we started looking over the Menus of some places. The decision was to try LANSDOWNE IRISH PUB. Overall a good choice. We tried the Bavarian Pretzel and Wings. Both were good but a word of caution about the wings. The cook must be looking to work for or own stock in FRANK"S HOT SAUCE because he put that %&#@ all over everything. Lucille raved about her Chicken Pot Pie, while I was not I as impressed with the Corned Beef Hash I had. Too much cubed potatoes too little corned beef that was over cooked'
After Dinner we decided to look around some more and found the OLD-FASHIONED COUNTRY STORE. We both got a Kick out of some of the signs they had. I got my neighbor one regarding approved conduct for his man cave. I also got myself a coaster that echoes my morning prayer on days I am a little too Full of myself.

We decided a little time on the Gaming Floor was in Order. Lucille found a Machine she wanted to try, and I found one I like in Dover Downs. After about 45 Min she came and found me, and we compared how we had done. I was up enough to put us $10 ahead so we decided it was time to head back. Finding our way to the exit we needed was not as easy as I thought. The signage for it indicated there was a coat room. I Hadn't seen it seen on our way in so we passed it by twice. When I walked into that alley, I saw it was where we needed to go.

I wanted some of her playing her mandolin but she stayed on the far side of the stage.

@Teamubr
When Lucille dragged me to see him for the 1st time around 2005, the Saxaphone player was a tall Blond in a short denim Mini Skirt with legs from her feet to her neck. She is now his current wife.
That was also the night I was first attracted to Tonie and thought that is her name as he called her that 3 times.

Monday.
This would normally be head for home day. However, in June when I booked it the office woman, Lucille, and I couldn't read a calendar. We were all under the impression that this trip would happen over Labor Day weekend. I am not traveling on Labor Day.
Lucille didn't want to revisit THE SUBMARINE MUSEUM in Groton or the Aquarium in Mystic. She wanted to see the SEAPORT MUSEUM. So, after some housekeeping, that's where we headed. To get to the majority of Mystic's attractions from the campground is relatively easy.
Exit the property and at Gold Star Highway make a right go to Ct 27and make a left. Follow 27 all the way to Main Street in Mystic proper. I mention this as there is a house on 27 that once was a Church based on the Architecture and stained glass. To say the Lawn Decorations are unique doesn't really do it justice

We, as I have indicated decided to visit the SEAPORT MUSEUM this day. We have considered going here in the past but either weather or crowd sizes have deterred us. There is a small senior discount , Guess the need to cover the free entry for those with SNAP or WIC cards. We used the South Entrance as across the alley from the entrance they have a gift shop, expanded cafe, and in interesting bookstore.
Once you pay you exit the building and enter the wharf area. Along the wharf you will find an assortment of buildings and some ships. Many of the buildings house displays of how important items needed by SAILING ships of the past needed. Depending on the day there might be experts inside that can explain much of what was and how it was made. These included a rope producing plant, SHIPWRIGHT, COOPER, and BLACKSMITH with working forge. Some other buildings also include a variety of shops that sold staples need on board ships and the communities that served them.

Along with the buildings you will find an assortment of vessels you can board a great many of them. The Whaling ship is open foe a tour and had a mentor who described a great deal of the operations that took place on the main deck. The AMISTAD is moored on the other side of the pier. I wasn't sure how it fit the theme of a Whaling village, but they had the have a Dutch Lighthouse Tender , The GERDA III . This vessel was part of the flotilla that evacuated 98% of the Jews from Nazi Occupied Denmark to Sweden in 1944.
The best part of the day was learning that , if we wanted, we could have gone back once during the week for free by showing our wrist band.g
As this area is a good place for us to stop us when we go to visit my Aunt and Uncle on THE CAPE. Not only for the hefty Vets Discount I get but it fits with my max travel day of 350 miles per day. So it was time to find a new place eat.
We kept seeing the Signs for a place called 21 ROCKS whenever we to go to shop at THE BIG Y. Lucille decided it was worth a try.
Actually, it is very good. She had the Chicken Parm dinner. I opted for the Shrimp Tacos. Both came with oversized portions. Both were super good.

Found the pics of couple of my stays at that campground (which was called Seaport RV Resort before becoming a Sun Resort… although it was a Sun resort on my most recent stay).

One of my earlier stays in our first camper… so probably around 2015/16:

Tuesday.
The worst part of the trip. Time to head home. Prep was a quickie. THE COLORS were all I needed to store until I disconnected. Now unfortunately the place is built on top of an old Quarry so there is no sewer access at the sites. If you stay for 4 nights or longer they will on day 5 come and pump you out for free. Our day was Monday. But I did need to empty the Grey Tank as we showered and did a load of wash. Pulled out at 08:50 am. Hit a Gas station to top off and was on 95 at 9:25.
As I and 4077 have indicated traveling on Ct. roads is an adventure all by itself. The first half went fine. I did 60 nearly the entire way. Then it happened. Somewhere around New Haven there was a sign advising, ROAD WORK AHEAD. The next 20 miles took 90 minutes to travel. When we got to the actual CONSTRUCTION location it was approximately 200 yards along the right shoulder that they closed, with a 10-person crew just standing around.
Happily, the rest of the trip went easier. No accident on 287 just ahead of the New Jersey Turnpike shutting down 4 out of 5 lanes at the exit.
Hopefully when we go back in October as we head back to see the relatives, things will go at least as well if not More Gooderer.
