We are new to DVC so we were already out of our 11 mos. home resort advantage and 7 mos. window. So, I took what I could get and have two things waitlisted.
Do waitlists ever wind up opening up? I have 5.5 mos. til we travel so 4.5 mos. to try!
Definitely! I bought my first points in October of this year, and was able to book 3 nights in a 1 BR for me and DD, 2 nts in a studio for my Sis, and 1 nt in a Studio for my brother for the 1st week of December (before our cruise on the Magic). After the ship returned last Saturday, my DD and I stayed another 2 nts in a 1BR. All of the ressies were at SSR, and most of them were waitlisted at one point or another.
Where do you own? If you waitlist at SSR or OKW, you have a better chance of something opening up since the resorts are larger. Also, be sure to call MS on a regular basis.
We own at AKV and just bought in November. I got resies at two DVC's I'm happy with. But, didn't have the same view available for all 4 nights at BWV so we have to move rooms after one night. And, I wanted concierge at AKV.

We own at SSR but generally stay at the BWV. We always have to waitlist, but have never had any trouble with our ressies coming through. With 5 1/2 months you should be good. I would call periodically. The was one time when a spot came open when I was actually on the phone with MS, she was able to snag it for me right then. Good luck.
What is the best way to know if your waitlist comes through? I was told I'd know when the letter arrived in the mail, but just wondering if they notify you another way, or if people just regularly call. Thanks!
