Waitlisted with Cash Discount rooms available. Question.

I waitlisted today for a studio at VWL Nov 15/16. I was told that I could book with the DVC cash discount, but opted to waitlist. The CM said I had a good chance of getting it since the cash room was available (depending on how many others are also waitlisted). Does anyone know at what point Disney will take cash rooms and turn them over to waitlisted members? The CM said that's what will happen, but didn't know exactly when they normally do that. The stay is just 2 weeks from today. I'm one of those crazy DVCers that have to check the wait list daily to see if its come through yet so I'm wondering how many days I'll spend pulling my hair out.

Cash rooms never get converted to points inventory. They are not the same inventory. Anytime a member uses points to stay at a non-DVC Disney resort or go on the Disney Cruise, the rooms that those points represent are given to CRO to sell to pay for the cost of the trip made by the member.

Those rooms were already reserved for points (and traded for non-DVC trips), so they can't be reserved a second time for points.

There have been reports that member services has been able to "move rooms around" at the last minute between points and cash. I assume they have to move another night from points to cash to compensate for it.

I think all of these have seemed to be converting breakage inventory back to points use. I would expect they'll let the room sit empty rather than use it in this manner.

I wonder if this is why I was told this this past week. I called for a couple of nights in a little over 2 weeks. She said that a note comes up on her computer that says "additional inventory might be available" so she had to put me on hold to call someone. My guess is that is exactly what is happening maybe????

Thanks for sharing your experince. I was beginning to think that my CM just didn't know what he was talking about. But since you were told something similar, perhaps this is true. He also told me more than once that my "chances were good." Now I don't know if that was him having a bit too much pixie dust or him hinting to trust in the waitlist. Less than 2 weeks to go. I guess I'll have to wait and find out. But I'm hopeful!

So I guess I can also waitlist my last night even though we are within the 30 day mark????

I guess I will call and do that too. So if my day I need is the last day of my trip.....do I get to keep the waitlist for 7 days prior to that day....or 7 days prior to my arrival day??? Thanks

I think its 7 days prior to your waitlisted day, but I can't be sure. My waitlisted day is the same as my arrival day.

I was told by a CM yesterday that they can't waitlist for one night - only 2 or more. That must be for under 30 days, because I'm not under 7 days yet. All my waitlists except for the 2 days went away at the 30 day mark.

I have a cash ressie at WVL and I'm waitlisted there to use points, but they didn't say anything about the possibility of the cash reservation shifting to points. I'm going to call tomorrow.

I would think if that was true then MS would tell us when we try to wait list just one night. I have never heard of such.

You can keep a waitlist for just one night, in fact I am doing just that as it is the last remaining night and you have to tell them that you want it to continue under the 30 day mark, just like everyother waitlist.

Juts re-read this and think the CM was saying if you had a chain of nights unavailable could only waitlist for the entire length and not each day individually, like you used to be able to, but if there is only one day not available then you can waitlist that one.

That's probably it Claire. I have two nights not covered - so they are waitlisted together. When I asked if she could split them on the waitlist into individual waitlists so I could try to get one more night on either end of my 2BR ressies at OKW - she said she couldn't.
