Waitlist two nights together or separately?

Looking for two nights in December, both currently unavailable. Am I better off waitlisting the two nights separate or as one stay? Not sure how the waitlist decides who get a room when a night opens up, is length of stay a factor?

Length of stay is a factor. Since December is so far away, I'd waitlist them separately. You'll have to do that online since MS may refuse to waitlist consecutive nights separately.

If you are unwilling to risk one night coming through without the other, then waitlist them together. If you already have a back up. then go with the separate waitlists.

I'll keep the two nights separate for now. Either night won't make or break the trip anyway.

Your chances of success are higher overall with the separate. You should also stalk the website as canceled rooms are not held for the wait list.

I waitlisted two consecutive nights, with them as separate waitlists for our Thanksgiving vacation. I stalked the website and ended up filling them myself. I'm not sure if I wouldn't have grabbed the nights if it would have filled through the waitlist system. I'm just glad I happened to sign in at the right time.

I'm confused why my waitlist wouldn't pick up a night if someone cancelled???

Because the waitlist system seems to only scan for available rooms periodically throughout the day. I'm not sure if anyone knows the exact times of the day it does this. So, as people are stalking the availability and a room comes up, they grab it and then when the WL system starts it's search later in the day, the room is already gone. It's a sucky system as far as I'm concerned. You have to look out for yourself.

Dean or Carol, please help me out here if I didn't explain that correctly!

Wow, I appreciate the information. And the last week I've been thinking my waitlist would get fulfilled instantly if someone cancelled. Wrong.. I'll start checking a few times each day as well.
