Hi all - We have a res for 8 nights at SS and want to max chances of being at BWV area during food and wine. After reading here seems best to start to waitlist for a shorter number of days - but I'm a bit confused by the question on the online system. Specifically, it asks whether I want to cancel the original if the waitlist comes through - so if I put in a request to wailist for the last 4 nights...and it comes through will they cancel the whole 8 nights of just shorten the original one to 4 nights?
Thanks much!

For that waitlist I would call MS just to be sure it was done correctly.

You have to call for that type as they have to note to cancel the specific dates.

I had a wait list match for 1 night to add to my split stay at BWV/AKV.
When I set it up I did say to cancel existing and it only took of the one night that changed. So it added to my AKV reservation and took it off my BWV reservation no problems!

I would have it set up NOT to cancel the reservation.

We just had a similar situation where we had 2 nights at SSR booked for the middle of a stay. One night came through for a VWL WL. I did not have the waitlist set up to cancel a reservation but whoever did my waitlist cancelled my whole SSR stay, leaving me with one night without a studio room. MS found me a room that wasn't available online but be careful.

Even if you say NOT to cancel, sometimes they do anyway. I just had a 1 night waitlist come through and the CM cancelled the first night of my BWV reservation! I WAS NOT HAPPY! I specifically set it up NOT to cancel anything.

Fortunately, the BWV night they cancelled was still in the system so I could have gotten it back. After thinking it over, I decide to let it go. But I still wish they would only do what the instructions specified!

In the future I am going to put a bogus name on the waitlist and if it comes through, I'll deal with the name changes and any necessary cancellations myself.

Hmm..Maybe I'll just change the existing to 2 different ones...then just waitlist each separately.

I had 4 nites at OKW in Dec but had WL for 1st 2 nites at BLT and last 2 nites at BWV. My BLT came thru and they canx only the first 2 nites of OKW and issued a new resv # for my remaining 2 nites at OKW. This was done on line with no phone calls. I called to make room request for BLT and found they had eliminated my bldg request for my remaining 2 nites at OKW .Just a little something to watch for !

We always wait list under another name. Two times in the past when a wait list matched parts of my vacation were cancelled that were not supposed to have been. In both instances I lost Boardwalk view two bedrooms. In one case they were never able to replace it. The second time they managed to get the room back.

Sorry, may be a stupid question but I don't understand how to waitlist under another name...If its DVC on points, I only have it registered in our own names....

When I put in a wait list, I put only one guest on the reservation. If the wait list fills, then I email or call MS and have them add the other people.

For example, when I put in a waitlist for early December, I just put DH as the guest and didn't include me. When it filled, I then called MS and had them put me as another guest.
