Waitlist question...cash rooms available

We're waitlisted for 2 nights at the end of May, to upgrade from Saratoga Springs to a Savannah View studio at AKL (Jambo or Kidani). One of the two nights is available at both for points. The other night is available for both as a regular cash reservation, but points reservations are not available.

Anybody have this happen to them and get there waitlist closer to their stay? I'm just wondering if there's a point at which DVC will release the rooms for points?

The rooms available for cash at the DVC resorts come from a different inventory than that for points. The chance of a cash room coming back to DVC is virtually zero.

Most of the rooms in the cash inventory get there because DVC members "traded" them for a cruise or another non-DVC resort. DVC sends rooms to the cash inventory to get the $$ to pay for members' choices to reserve something besides a DVC resort stay.

Hope your waitlist comes through - since we are less than 31 days away, the chances are small, but it's still possible. Good luck!

No, they will let the rooms go empty rather than converting an actual cash room to use by DVC. The only possible exception is breakage inventory. You could take 1 night at AKV canceling that night at SSR. It would put you at risk for being orphaned but it would give you a better chance of success. Remember the WL cuts off at 31 & 7 days so after than you'll need to check on your own.

Well.....,

As a professional late booker I have felt that they 'recalled' villas into pints for me, but I cannot guarantee it. I just know when I call and ask for unit type x sometimes they will put me on hold for quite a while to check "if I can get you a unit'. But this is usually only a week or less before I arrive.

Tim Krasniewski (tjkraz) had a great explanation of this that David posted on his Facebook page. Maybe Tim could post a link to his page with this info on it.
