So, last year DBF and I had a trip planned in October and flights got booked in July through Southwest. We had to cancel for a few different reasons but when I called Southwest to cancel they stated that we had one year from date of purchase to use our full funds towards tickets. So we discussed it and were going to head to Phoenix to visit my best friend in March 2014. Then we decided it would be worth it to call SW and see if they can extend our "unused travel funds" for 2 months so we could use it for our trip to Disney this September. The answer is that yes, we can but they penalize you $100 a ticket and make you wait until your year is expired to book. So, I booked on July 12, 2013. I had to wait until July 12, 2014 (Saturday) to book. I call on Sat, speak to Customer Service. They tell me that Customer RELATIONS handles that request and they aren't open on weekends. I call first thing this morning (8am) and waited over an HOUR on hold. When I finally got to speak to someone, I'm told that they send an email with a voucher code and I have $254 to spend on each ticket. As soon as I get the email, I can book online and there is a place to input the code in order to pay for tickets. I ask when to expect the email and she told me 1-2 days! For an email!! I've already waited this long to book my airfare and as it is already missed out on some fantastic deals. The flight we were planning on booking (6:35am on 9/16-nonstop from Buffalo to Orlando) just skyrocketed to $305 a ticket! There is absolutely no way I am paying $610 for 2 ONE WAY tickets to Orlando. So we're heading down the day before (3:40pm on 9/15-nonstop) and staying in the hotel airport while we wait for our friends who will be coming in on the 6:35am flight the next morning. Those tickets have been $109 a piece for a week or so now. I am hoping with all hope that those tickets don't increase before I get my voucher code. The flight on the way home is a nonstop flight, 7:00pm departure. Those are $128 a ticket. So as of right now I can still add the "early bird" option for $12.50 a ticket and stay under the $509 credit we have without having to pay out of pocket. I am just fretting about the fares skyrocketing in the next 2 days! What a hassle!!
I know this was a rant/complaint, and I'm sorry for that. I am very grateful that SW is allowing us to extend our funds, even with the penalty....but I'm just flustered because I've had my WDW trip booked since February and have had to wait all this time to book our flights. And now I have to wait another 2 days, for an email! LOL
On a very happy note...64 days to go!!! And our MNSSHP tickets came in the mail on Saturday! YAY!
