WAITING LIST CHANCE.....what would you do????

Okay we are booked at CBR for 7 nights starting Nov. 20th (trip has been planned for months...didn't want to use points since we went this summer for 14 nights).....since we bought into AKV yesterday....we were given 100 dev. points for our home resort of SSR. SO I called this morning and was able to book first 4 nights in a dedicated 2br and waitlist the last 3. Now the waitlist is for all the days....so if one comes available it doesn't matter ..ALL THREE NEED TO COME AVAILABLE in order to get them. So we will move to CBR for our last 3 nights in two rooms.

Now CM had a 2 br. lockoff for 5 nights...so we would only need to move for last 2 nights....but he said he thought we had a better chance of getting a dedicated on the waitlist over a 2 br. lockoff so I stuck with the dedicated but got 1 less night. I think I might call back and switch to the lock off just to get another night...and then I am only paying cash for 2 nights vs. 3.


What would you do????

I would wait a couple of days to see what the waitlist did in the short term. When I waitlisted for a last-minute spring break trip this year, a couple of nights cleared up almost immediately - within the first few days. It was then that I had to decide how to handle the rest of the reservation. Give it a couple of days to see what they can manage - people do cancel all the time and those 3 nights might become available.

Also, do you only have the 100 SSR points? Because it looks like a 2BR at SSR is 29 points for a weeknight, so you would only have enough to have 3 nights on points, with a few left over. Do you have other points you can borrow or access to make the 4th night reservation??

Yes, I ended up moving 4 times in 7 nights, so this seems like a piece of cake!!!!

So you are planning to stay at SSR for your November trip, and use the 100 developer points, plus as many of the October 1 points as you need. Are you planning to pay cash for any of the nights??

Yes exactly.....but there were no discounted cash nights...they were 630 a night.

If you have already "used" the SSR developer points on those first 4 nights, then you are pretty free to take whatever comes open on the last 3 nights, right? Are you willing to move at all? I might call back and ask if the 5th night at SSR could be on a separate waitlist, then also waitlist for the last two nights together somewhere. When I did my Spring Break waitlist, SSR was the one that opened in time to get the last 4 nights together. They were willing to waitlist individual nights for me - don't know if they have changed that or not.

I was told today that they had to waitlist the group of days together....which I don't really like because if two days came up we would take them and still move the last day.

Went on the WL end of July/first part of August. Absolutely no movement yet. NADA. If you check the WL threads for Oct., Nov. and Dec. there hasn't been many fulfilled lately. I'm not too hopeful. I guess at 31 days out if nothing's fulfilled I'll start calling MS daily to check availability.

We don't care where we stay we just don't want to move every night of our DVC stay.

I have decided to call back tomorrow and see if the 5 nights in a lockoff is available and change to that. I would rather stay at SSR for 5 nights vs. 4 anyway even if not in a dedicated 2br. I have my backup of CBR and would rather only have to pay cash the last two nights vs. 3 since we need two rooms. Of course tomorrow I might call and those 5 are gone. They will no longer let you waitlist day by day, but that doesn't mean you cannot book day by day. Yes, it takes regular phone calls (you don't have anything better to do, right?), but if one day becomes available then you can book it and subtract it from your waitlist.

I was trying to get 5 nights. Initially, none of the nights were available, but the next day the first night was available when I called. I grabbed it and changed the waitlist to only 4 nights. A few days later the last night was available so I grabbed it and changed the waitlist to only 3 nights. About a week later I called and all three of my middle nights were available so I grabbed them and made sure all 3 reservations were linked.

As I noted in another post, the disturbing thing about this process was not only did it take me 12 phone calls to get this reservation, but when I called that last day and got the 3 middle nights it was NOT because my waitlist had matched/filled. Once I was sure the reservation was complete, I specifically asked if my waitlist was still in effect and it was. I cancelled it because I certainly do not need duplicate nights, but I was really unhappy to see that their waitlist system is clearly broken. What if it had not been me, but another member who had not been waitlisted for over a week??? I was and am extremely upset and I have voiced my displeasure to DVC Member Satisfaction, but I do not expect to get a response; I never have before.

All I can say is that I feel strongly that had I not constantly called on this waitlist I would still be waiting! I wish you luck and I hope it takes you fewer calls!

Just kidding - that's GREAT news!!!! Now go ahead and waitlist both nights for both SSR and OKW. If OKW comes up first, take it and if you still want to take a chance on SSR opening up for the last two nights, you can keep that waitlist active. I bet by the time it's over you'll get all seven nights at SSR, but you are right in that a 2BR at OKW would be better (at least in my opinion) than two rooms at any moderate resort.
