We closed on our DVC resale on March 11, 2014 (that is the day our deed was recorded I have already checked). I have been calling member services daily to see if our name is recorded, but they keep saying it has not. I think they are just pretending to look me up at this point! Ha! I am so worried we will not get a room. We have a cash booking May 9-13, 2014, and was hoping to get it to be a DVC room. How will I know if there are rooms available, do I just need to wait to get my number. It feels like I have been waiting forever!

Remember that there will be something between 28-49 years remaining on your contract depending on which resort you're purchasing, after it transfers to you. Plan on staying on cash in May, and book something DVC if you get lucky.

There is no motivation at all for DVC to speed up the process for you. In fact they have added several roadblocks to quick resales, presumably to try to steer more people toward direct purchase.

Unfortunately there is absolutely nothing you can do to speed up the process. It will be completed soon. Calling every day only frustrates you; it won't speed anything along at all.

Call Member Accounting rather than member services as many (including me) were able to get their number from that department before MS were able to access that information.

It stands to reason that DVC does not have a priority for recording the new member information and assigning membership numbers for resale buyers. I heard that they just have a couple of staff members assigned to this, and that they often get behind, leading to delays, etc. However, I do not believe that any of this is done on purpose just out of spite to "punish" resale buyers.

The seven weeks I waited from offering made to first reservations seemed long when I was going through it. But the $7,000+ I saved by buying resale made it so worthwhile.

Ill second calling member accounting. I closed a little before the 11th on my first contract and they were able to give me my member number before it arrived in the mail.

Owners dues pays for member services, direct sales accounts are set up in 1 day. For resales they take several days if not weeks and they don't have a process set up to notify you when it's completed other than snail mail.

You may not to use the word "punish" but you can use the word deliberate.

We also closed on March 11. I just called MS and they weren't able to find us in the system. :(

Any of you got lucky?

I have holding points I'm trying to use but I don't see any resort completely open for those days, not even SSR. That could change of course.
