Waiting for AP rates for June - but until then...

We are planning a trip to WDW June 5 - 12 and are waiting for AP rates (very impatiently I might add). This is the first year we've ever had AP's and we usually stay at DVC, but we're out of points so - we're planning on using AP rates. Do we need to go ahead and secure a reservation without an AP rate and then try to switch over when they do come out - or do we just wait for them to come out and take our chances? We have to have the rooms at POR that sleep five. Any help would be appreciated!

AP rates are only released to fill rooms that Disney could not fill at a higher price. We have had APs since 1999 and the rates became easier to get after Sept 11th. Now that travel is returning to pre 09/11 levels I would expect that AP discounts and discounts in general are going to go back to pre 09/11 levels as well.

We are also looking to do a long weekend trip, for Project X, and I have not booked our rooms yet as I am not willing to pay rack rate.

You should book the resort you are willing to stay at based on the current prices and then if discounts come out you can call and if the resort you want is avaiable they can switch you over or you can just book the new reservation and cancel the original one.
