We got up fairly early on Monday and went down for breakfast. Charlie got a phone call and had to go back to the room. I had grabbed a table, and right after that the dining area was packed. I felt badly that I was hogging a table all to my self while waiting for Charlie to come back, so I invited another couple to sit and share the table. They were from Canada, but the husband was a Pirates fan because when he was a kid, KDKA was the only radio station he could get on his transistor radio after dark and they broadcast Pirates games. Just a small bit of history....
After he finished his phone call, we went for a walk, though the street was very busy and there weren't sidewalks in some areas. It was nice to be outside in the warm air though.
We had tickets for a Pirates game at McKechnie Park waiting for us courtesy of Andrew. Ducky did come along to this game. The Pirates were playing the Orioles....
Ducky couldn't decide whether she wanted to root for the Orioles or for the Pirates, so she supported both ....
And another picture of our skipper....
Charlie ended up leaving early to take care of business, then came back to pick me up. We went back to the hotel because he had to call back his client. I laid down on the bed and promptly fell asleep. The cold I had was really kicking my butt.
He woke me after about an hour and we took a drive out to the barrier islands. We were looking for someplace to eat and found a place right on the beach but it was really crowded and there weren't any empty tables. We did walk out across the beach and stuck our toes in the Gulf of Mexico though.
We ended up driving all the way down the barrier islands and then back into Sarasota and got dinner at Burger King. At that point all I really wanted to do was go back to bed.
Tuesday morning we got up about the same time and Charlie once again had to work. Once he was finished, we went to the Riverwalk in Bradenton, which is a lovely recreational area right along the river. We got hotdogs from a street vendor (who happened to be from Baltimore!) and walked along the river for a bit.
Then it was time to head back to Ed Smith Stadium for one more Orioles game. I was really dragging at this point, but we were going to a b-ball game! No time to be sick! This time they were playing Boston (boo Red Sox). We had a delightful afternoon at the ball park and by the end of the game I was feeling much better.
There is a signpost like this at Camden Yards with the distances to all the Orioles ball parks.
Once we got back to the room we decided we were going to head to Orlando the next day. I have a few pictures from Wednesday to post, and won't go back over the day's events here.
We stayed at Pop Century -
Saw the Castle turrets getting a facelift:
Saw these lovely ladies!
I'm not sure I noticed this during our last trip -
Picture of the Mine Train!!! It looked like they were adding landscaping to the mountainside.
Charlie, taking on Zurg...
