Wait...we're going WHERE? My awesome 2 week land and sea solo trip! *Updated 10/23*

Tuesday, February 23rd - Cozumel and a surprise!

Today I woke up bright and early - too early, from the feel of it! I've got to say - the Mickey wake up call is cute and all, but the high pitched Mickey voice is rather annoying at 6:00 in the morning. I had to fight the urge to throw the phone across the room (have I mentioned I'm not very good at waking up?). It's a good thing I didn't throw the phone though, because soon after, I got a call from room service telling me my coffee was on the way. Don't want to miss that!!

I showered and got ready for my day in Mexico, then went up to Deck 9 to get some fruit from Goofy's. I walked out the door and was greeted with...clouds everywhere.

IMG_0148.jpg

It was a disappointing sight, but I held onto the hope that it would clear up later.

At 8am, I went to the Buena Vista theater to meet up with my excursion group. After turning in my ticket, I was given an Ariel sticker that identified me as part of the Xcaret group, and signed a release form. After a short wait we were all on our way.

It took awhile to get to Xcaret, since it's on the mainland. The first leg of the trip was a ferry ride to Playa del Carmen. It was kind of a rough ride - VERY bumpy. I had brought my sea bands with me, so I didn't feel sick. I also met and chatted with a very nice family from Vermont. They'd been on a few cruises before, and had traveled all over the world. It was so interesting to hear all about their adventures! (Ps...that's another one of my favorite parts of solo traveling - I talk to people so much more when I don't have friends/family around. I've gotten to meet many interesting people and hear all about their lives and stories.)

Once we arrived on the mainland, we had a short walk through Playa del Carmen, and then boarded the bus to Xcaret.

Once we got to the park, the first thing they did was check our sunscreen. Since most sunscreen has chemicals and is not biodegradable, they take it at check in (you can pick it up on the way out), and we were given small sample packets of biodegradable sunscreen.

Once we went inside the park, we were led to the underground rivers. We were given huge waterproof bags to put our stuff in (which were then locked and brought to the end of the river), put on life jackets, and entered the river. It took almost an hour to float down the river, but it was amazing. We literally floated through caves, and the rocks on the cave walls were beautiful! The water was also crystal clear - you could see straight through to the bottom. It was such a relaxing experience - totally the highlight of the day!

Views from above the river:

IMG_0209.jpg

There were also places like this throughout the river to let some natural light in. (Once you got into the caves it got pretty dark!)

IMG_0210.jpg

Once I got out of the river, I went to the beach to turn in my meal ticket. Lunch is paid for with the excursion - you get a choice of a cheeseburger, hot dog, or salad and a non-alcoholic drink. You also get another ticket for a free popsicle. The restaurant also had some Mexican food for purchase, but I opted for my "free" meal. To my delight, the sun had come out and it had turned into a beautiful day! I relaxed in the sun for awhile, then went over to the stadium to watch the dolphins. They are such beautiful creatures, and I was really starting to get excited for my swim the next day!

IMG_0178.jpg

I spent the rest of the time walking around the park. It was really an incredible place! I saw all sorts of animals from flamingos to jaguars. They also had some Mayan ruins, an old Mayan church and cemetery, and caves to walk through. I loved the park so much and was really glad I'd made the decision to go.

Time flew by, and before I knew it, it was time to head back to the bus. I fell asleep on the ferry ride home, so we were back to the ship in no time at all! I was getting hungry again, so I went to Pinnochio's for some pizza. I've never been a fan of Disney (park) pizza, so I wasn't sure what to expect here, but I was pleasantly surprised! It was good!

I wanted to soak up all the sun I could, but the pools were getting really crowded, so I went to check out the "secret" deck 7. It turned out to be a perfect choice - there was only one other person out there, and plenty of deck chairs and space to choose from! I also got there just in time to watch us sail out of Cozumel!

An empty deck:

Once we were back at sea, we got an announcement from the ship's captain - weather conditions in Grand Cayman were not good. Lots of wind was creating high waves, and since Grand Cayman is a tender port, the tender boats were unable to get to the ships. Apparently four ships had tried to go to Grand Cayman that day, and none of them ended up being able to. Since the forecast was looking the same for the next day, they had decided to cancel our stop in Grand Cayman.

WHAT?!?!?!? No dolphin swim? If you remember correctly, the only reason I booked Xcaret was because I was sure I could get the dolphin swim in Grand Cayman. I was absolutely crushed.

However, before I could get too upset, Captain John continued with his announcement. The reason they'd decided to cancel the stop rather than try to dock and see what happened, was that they didn't want to be forced into another sea day. Instead, we were going to spend the next day at sea...on our way to Nassau!

This made me pretty excited. I'd never been to Nassau before, and it's a place I've always wanted to see. I was also impressed with how proactive DCL was about the weather conditions. So many ships were stopped at sea just staring at Grand Cayman and unable to go. We were on our way to another port instead! I was even more impressed when I got back to my stateroom and had a message from the shore excursion desk. Since the dolphin swims tend to book fast, and I'd already had one booked for Grand Cayman, they were holding a swim for me to book in Nassau. YAY! I went down to the shore excursion desk and looked at the options, and decided on the dolphin encounter instead of the swim. While the swim looked like fun, there was a $75 difference between the 2, and the encounter included everything but the swim. I was relieved and once again so excited about the encounter!

Tuesday, February 23rd cont

Once I got my day in Nassau all straightened out, I decided to go back to the Rainforest Room - I needed some relaxation time after all the walking I did today! I had decided to skip the Once Upon a Song show (I didn't have too much interested in it), so I had a couple of hours to spend there before dinner. It was about 6:00 when I got there, and the very nice staff at the spa put a "Wednesday" sticker on my card instead of a Tuesday sticker since it was so late. That meant I could use the Rainforest Room as well tomorrow, and it would only count as my 2nd day! Free spa time? Oh yes!

I relaxed in the stone loungers for quite some time - so long, in fact, that I ended up napping in there instead of reading! I also tried out the scented showers this time. They were really neat - the water came down almost like rain, and it all felt wonderful. I stayed in there a little longer than I should have, so I had to rush to get ready for dinner, but I didn't care because it felt so good!

Dinner tonight was in Lumiere's and it was the French menu. Since I'd skipped dinner last night, this was my first night there. It definitely was my favorite of the 3 dining rooms - it was so beautiful and elegant! I decided to be a little gutsy with my appetizer and ordered the escargot.

IMG_0240.jpg

It took a bit for me to get past WHAT I was eating, but once I did, I really enjoyed it! It was so tasty!

I also had the tomato basil soup, and the three cheese lobster pasta. Like everything else so far, they were both delicious! For dessert, I had the Grand Marnier souffle, and Gede made a little show out of pouring the vanilla sauce into it. Yum!

IMG_0245.jpg

After dinner, I went to Rockin' Bar D for tonight's adult cabaret show. Tonight's show was Team Rootberry, who were a comedy juggling duo. They were hilarious, and also did some really cool juggling stunts!

Once the show was over, I read for awhile longer, then fell asleep. It had been a long day!

The underground river excursion sounds really cool. Also nice of them to provide you with sample of biodegradable sunscreen if you did not bring some.

Also nice of Disney to hold a replacement excursion for you.

Ending with food porn... niiiiice.

:surfweb: All caught up and loving the report. Makes me want to go on a cruise. We loved DCL but only did a four day would love to do a week.

Great report - love the details and love the photos.
I especially love the information about the spa. I've only had a message there.

Your report has me daydreaming "what if" - oh, what if I was able to do a solo cruise like you ;) :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl::worship:

I just had to thank you for your report. I have been really enjoying it. I am trying to plan a Disney cruise for my family for next year, it will be the kids first time crusing and I was concerned because they are all older and teenager they wouoldn't enjoy themsleves but after reading your report so far I just know we will have an amazing time. Thank you for helping to confirm what I always knew. Disney does it like no one else.
I am turning 40 in Oct and now you have my thinking, hey why can't I go alone? Really thinking about it now. Can't wait to hear about your dolphine encounter. One of my lifelong dreams as well.

Enjoying your TR! Hope you share the week at WDW too. I love shopping my myself at WDW. Except for my mother, the rest of the family gets in the way big time. Ahhh, I need a Disney fix. LOL

Thanks for your kind words, everyone! I appreciate your patience - TR starts back up today!!!

And croppincolburn, don't worry, I'll include my WDW week in here too!

Wednesday, February 24th - Another rainy sea day!

I woke up at about 7:30, and placed my morning order for coffee with room service. Aaah. :surfweb: After my coffee, I headed up to the spa for some Rainforest Room relaxation time. I was glad I got there relatively early - I was able to get a tile lounger, but noticed that soon after I got there, they filled up quickly! I relaxed in the loungers for awhile, read some more, spent some time in the steam rooms, and even showered in the spa (the showers in the spa were WAAAY better than the showers in the stateroom!). Without realizing it, I easily spent over 2 hours in there!

It was pretty cloudy, and rainy out, so I figured I'd fill my day with "indoor activities. I wanted to go to the theme park and resorts innovations seminar, which was coming up shortly, so I went in search for a quick lunch. Topsiders had a seafood buffet today with some delicious options, so I decided to grab some food there. I had some salad, pasta, jumbo shrimp, and calamari. It was all so good!

IMG_0253.jpg

All of the tables inside were taken, so I grabbed one of the covered outside tables to eat at. I was trying so hard not to be disappointed in the weather, but it was hard not to be. I wanted to see some sunshine!

After eating, I went down to Rockin Bar D for the theme park and resorts innovations seminar. It was really interesting, and I learned a lot about the things that Walt and his company did that were considered "ground breaking." Some of them I expected, like the monorail, others surprised me - like the fact that a single entrance to the park was one of Walt's innovations. Go figure! After the presentation, I went and looked around in Up Beat, the duty free store. They had a lot of disney themed kitchen stuff for sale, which were awesome I didn't end up buying anything, but just enjoyed window shopping for awhile.

I then went back to Rockin Bar D to check out the Bingo scene. It actually ended up being a lot of fun! I didn't win anything (booooo...I was sure that $5000 jackpot had my name on it!), but I had a great time. I was once again amazed by the energy the cast members had - they really know how to make sure everyone's having fun and get everyone excited!

After bingo, I went back to my stateroom to change for the evening. Tonight was Pirate night, which some people got really dressed up for! I didn't get all that dressed up - I just wore jeans and a pirate T-shirt, but at least I had something! :)

There was no formal show tonight, but instead they were showing The Princess and the Frog in the Walt Disney Theater. I opted against seeing it, and went to the Buena Vista Theater instead to see When in Rome. It was a cheesy chick flick, but since I love those, I thought it was great!

Once the movie was over, I went and looked around for a bit in Treasure Ketch. I found a hoodie I really liked, but decided to wait to buy it in case I found one on Castaway Cay I liked better (little did I know then I probably should have bought every hoodie in sight - my week in Florida was FREEZING!).

I still had about an hour to kill before dinner, so I went in search of some characters. There were TONS out for pirate night, so it was a great opportunity for people watching. I've never been one to stand in line for pictures with characters, but I love watching them interact with people. I love to watch the kids' faces light up whenever they get to meet the characters - especially Mickey. Sometimes it's just too precious for words!

Anyways, here are some of the characters that were out for Pirate Night (I apologize for the quality of the pictures - I had a newish camera and was having some trouble getting the settings right with the lighting):

Captain Hook and Mr. Smee:
IMG_0262.jpg

Peter Pan and Wendy (they actually took over Captain Hook and Mr. Smee's spot when it was time for them to leave, and did a fun little interaction where Peter Pan pretty much chased them away. It was awesome)
IMG_0278.jpg

Pirate Mickey (who noticed me off to the side taking pictures and was kind enough to pose for me!)
IMG_0266.jpg

Pirate Stitch:
IMG_0270.jpg

Jack Sparrow:
IMG_0272.jpg

Dinner tonight was in Animator's Palate with the Pirate Menu. I had the pot stickers for my appetizer, the jerk chicken salad, dijon-crusted sirloin, and white chocolate cheesecake for dessert. Mmmmmmmmmmm.

IMG_0290.jpg

The servers were all decked out in their pirate gear as well, and towards the end of dinner, started a conga line. So much fun!

IMG_0289.jpg

At the end of dinner, an announcement came over the loud speakers: due to the rain, the Pirates in the Caribbean party was going to be moved to the Atrium.

WHAT?!?!:scared1: No fireworks? I know the weather couldn't be helped and tried not to dwell on it too much, but it was disappointing. I decided to make to best of it and headed to the Atrium, where I was greeted with mass chaos. Although the party could be viewed on decks three, four, and five, it was way too small a space to squeeze in 2500 people. I managed to find a spot on the floor on Deck 3 where I actually could get some decent pictures if I lifted my camera up high. Even with the chaos, the party was still a lot of fun - the cast members were all decked out in their pirate gear, and there was a lot of dancing and interacting with characters. Captain Hook and Mr. Smee tried to crash the party, but not to worry - Pirate Mickey showed up to save the day!

(This is also where I discovered a good setting on my camera, so the pictures are much better!)

IMG_0320.jpg

All in all, I felt like it was a really fun party and the cast members kicked up their excitement despite the unfortunate weather and having to stay inside. I am, however, looking forward to the next cruise I take so I'll hopefully be able to see the party as it is meant to be seen!

After the characters left, the party continued, but I was feeling the need to get away from the crowded chaos. I changed into my swimsuit and headed out to the pools. It was only drizzling, and the water was nice and warm, so it felt really refreshing - not to mention it was practically empty up there! I swam in the adult pool for awhile, and then went into the hot tub. There were a few other people there, so we chatted for awhile. I then went over to the Goofy pool to relax in the hot tub there and watch Pirates of the Caribbean on the Ariel View screen.

After the movie, I went back to my room, where I was greeted by a little monkey!

IMG_0327.jpg

I placed my "wake up call" with room service, and went to sleep excited for the next day in Nassau!

Thursday, February 25th - Nassau

The last couple of days of the cruise pretty much ended up redeeming all of the disappointments earlier in the cruise. This day in particular, ended up being one of the best days of the entire vacation (really, it's probably up there with being one of the best days of my life!)

I started off the morning with my typical room service coffee order. Now that is a much more pleasant wake up call! No matter what time it is, getting a call that says "your coffee is on the way ma'am" is a welcome way to wake up!

I didn't have to meet my excursion group until 9:30, so I took my time drinking my coffee and getting ready. Once I was ready, I went up to deck 9 to watch up cruise into Nassau. To my delight, it was sunny out (yippee!) and to my surprise, it was also SUPER windy! It made the weather a tad chilly, but I was so happy to see the sun I didn't care!

IMG_0328.jpg

IMG_0331.jpg

IMG_0336.jpg

I grabbed some breakfast at Topsiders, and then went down to Rockin Bar D to meet up with my excursion group. I checked in, turned in my release form, and was given a Donald Duck sticker. Before I knew it, we were off the ship and headed for Blue Lagoon.

Look how windy it was!!!
IMG_0335.jpg

The process of getting to the excursion was similar to my excursion in Cozumel - we had to take a ferry. This was a smoother ride, though, and I enjoyed the scenery as we went. We went right by the Atlantis, which just looked stunning. If I ever make it back to Nassau, I'll have to check it out.

Once we got to Blue Lagoon, we were given a short informational presentation about dolphins, and we were also given tips on how to keep them safe in the wild. After that we were given wet suits (since it was still a bit chilly) and led down to the water. We were introduced to our dolphin Salvador, who swam around the area waving to us. Then, one family at a time, we entered the water to receive a kiss on the cheek from Salvador. (Sorry guys - I don't have these pictures yet - I bought a couple of them but don't have a scanner - if I get them scanned later, I'll put them in :)) Then, we were split into groups of 10. When it was my group's turn, we entered the water for the rest of our encounter. First up was the dance - Salvador would come up out of the water, let you grab his fins, and move back and forth like you were dancing. Then we'd feed him a fish. Next up was my favorite part - Salvador gave each person a hug and a kiss (aww!). Finally, we petted him one at a time, both on his top and belly, and touched his teeth. Salvador also played along with his trainer - dancing around in circles and sometimes spitting water on guests! :) Overall, it was one of the most magical experiences of my life. I've loved dolphins ever since I was a kid, and to be that close to one and interact with him was just incredible. For our send off, Salvador went out to the lagoon and leapt out of the water several times for us.

Once the encounter was over, I caught the tender back to the ship. I thought about going into town to do some shopping, but decided to relax and enjoy the ship instead. I got some macaroni and cheese and a Mickey bar delivered from room service, which really hit the spot for a tasty lunch!

IMG_0341.jpg

After my lunch, I decided it was time to relax some more. Any guesses where that might lead me? Yep. back to the Rainforest Room to use the last of my 3 day pass! I managed once again to get there right before a wave of people came in so I got a lounger again. This time, rather than reading, I ended up taking a nap in the lounger, which just felt glorious! Once I woke up, I spent a little time again in the aromatherapy steam room and aromatherapy showers. I relaxed and dried off on one of the tile loungers, then headed back to my room to dress for tonight's show/dinner. I was going to be eating at Palo tonight, so I had to dress up a little more.

Once I was ready, I went down to the Walt Disney Theater for Disney Dreams. It was easily the best show of the cruise. It's about a little girl named Ann Marie who learns to believe in her dreams. With a little help from Peter Pan, she has dreams about many of the Disney stories - each with its own musical number. It really was a phenomenal show!

IMG_0349.jpg

After the show, I had a little bit of time before dinner, so I went to Rockin Bar D to catch Freddy Fusion's family magic show. He was really funny and was able to pull off some amazing tricks. I ducked out of the show a little early, and made my way up to Palo.

OMG Palo dinner was AMAZING. I was a little apprehensive about going to dinner there alone, but wonderful people on the boards assured me that I'd have an amazing dinner, and the servers would treat me extra special. They were right. The food was some of the best I've ever had, and the staff really was wonderful. I had Sasha again, and he was just as sweet and attentive as he had been at brunch. I was also greeted with a "Welcome back, Princess, I'm so glad you could come again!" from Sylvester, another server who recognized me from brunch (aaaw!).

Dinner started with a selection of meats, breads, and dips. They were sooooo yummy but I was afraid to eat too much of it because I knew there would be a gargantuan amount of food coming soon.
IMG_0352.jpg

For my appetizer I had the calamari, which was perfect - very lightly fried so it wasn't too greasy or heavy.
IMG_0353.jpg

I was also provided with lime sorbet after my appetizer to cleanse the palate - fancy!
IMG_0354.jpg

At Sasha's suggestion, I had the pasta special of the day for my entree. It was spaghetti with olive oil, garlic, sun dried tomatoes, parmesan cheese, and chili flakes sprinkled on top. It was sooooooo delicious - kind of like a pomodoro with a little kick to it.
IMG_0355.jpg

Before dinner came out, Sasha informed me that I had a very important decision to make - dessert. :) Their chocolate souffle takes about 25 minutes to make, so he checked to see if that's what I wanted so they would have time to make it while I ate my main course. I ordered it, and was so happy I did - it was unbelievably delicious! (Sorry...got a bit excited about it and forgot to take a picture of it! Epic fail). Once it came out, Sasha delivered it and poured vanilla bean and chocolate sauce into it. YUM! Completely stuffed, I said goodnight to Sasha and Sylvester, and went back to my room. I changed into some more comfortable clothes, and went up to Deck 10.

Earlier in the day, our cruise director Peter had made an exciting announcement: since the weather in Nassau was nice and clear, we were going to have our fireworks show tonight! HOORAY! I was so happy - as much as I'd hated to admit it, I was really disappointed the night before about not getting to see them. As a side note, I feel that between not being able to go to Grand Cayman and having to move the Pirate party inside, there was a lot of disappointments, but Disney did a great job making up for it wherever they could. I'm still really impressed by that.

Anyways, once I got to Deck 10, the party was already going in full swing.
IMG_0360.jpg

Cast members were out dancing, and they were soon joined by the characters. Rather than take pictures, I was able to capture a lot of it on video, which is still, almost a month later, so much fun for me to watch. Then, while keeping the party music going (Black Eyed Peas "I've Got a Feeling"), they shot fireworks into the sky. It was so beautiful, and the magic and excitement of it all almost brought tears of joy to my eyes.

Once the fireworks were over, I went back to Rockin Bar D for Freddy Fusion's adult show. Even though I had to duck out early from his family show, I liked him enough to catch his adult show. Like the other cabaret performers, he did not disappoint. He was hilarious and once again did some pretty amazing stuff!

After the show, I went back to my stateroom, and found a dinosaur waiting for me!
IMG_0350.jpg

Unfortunately, I now had the unpleasant task of doing some laundry and beginning to pack. Even though I still had a full day and night left on the ship, I wanted to get all I could out of Castaway Cay and my final night on the ship without worrying about packing then. I ended up doing all of that until 1am, then placed my morning order with room service, and went to sleep. Today really had been the perfect day!

I'm enjoying your trip report! I haven't had time to get mine started yet, so right now I'm reliving the cruise through yours.

Sylvester was my server at Palo twice (brunch and dinner). He was wonderful at dinner. DH developed a migraine and had to leave me there to finish dinner alone. Sylvester made sure that I had an awesome time. I wouldn't hesitate to go to Palo alone if I had to!

Beth

Sorry to hear about the weather related issues but glad to hear that things got better. Food pics.... yummmmmmmmm.

I just stumpbled upon your report and am loving it so far!! My DH and I took the Western this past September and had a wonderful time. But I love reading this through your eyes, as a solo traveler! I really admire you for going alone, but it seems like you are having a wonderful time. I loved reading about the Rainforest room--very cool!! I can't wait to read more!!

Friday, February 26th - a Bittersweet day in Paradise

Today was Castaway Cay day, and even though I'd seen tons of pictures and read all sorts of trip reports, nothing could compare to actually being there and experiencing the island for myself. It really was so perfect. The only downside to it was that it was hard to experience such paradise when you know it's also your last day of the cruise. Tear!

I woke up at 6:30am to my morning cup of coffee. Even though I didn't fall asleep until well after 1am the night before, I wanted to get up early to watch us cruise into Castaway Cay. I showered and got ready for the day, then headed over to the "secret" deck 7 to watch us approach the island.

Even more perfect, the sun was out, there was hardly a cloud in the sky, and it was already WARM! Any bad weather previously in the cruise was totally redeemed by this point - it felt truly wonderful.

Once we reached Castaway Cay, there was still a little time before they would call All Ashore, so I went down to Parrot Cay for some breakfast. I'd only eaten there once since my Palo reservation conflicted with the second night there, so I felt like I'd neglected it a little. I enjoyed a nice breakfast in a practically empty restaurant (turns out I was the first guest there that morning!), and had a nice chat with the servers. They all seemed pretty excited about Castaway Cay - they said that it was the best weather they'd seen on the island in a long time.

I timed my ending to breakfast perfectly - as soon as I finished eating and said good bye to the servers, it was time to go ashore. I walked off the ship and truly felt like I'd stepped into paradise. Just walking throughout the island was wonderful - it was so beautiful! I headed straight for Serenity Bay, taking some pictures of various spots on the island as I went.

I also ran into this little guy on my way to Serenity Bay. Not sure where he came from, but he was incredibly sweet (I have a soft spot in my heart for kitties). I petted him for a few minutes, then continued on my way.

Family beach:

Serenity Bay:

I was one of the first ones to make it to Serenity Bay, so I was able to grab a hammock. I laid back and enjoyed the sunshine and sound of the waves lapping on the shore for a long time. Realizing that 5 hours of sleep may not have been the best idea, I napped in the hammock for awhile, and then read my book. I stayed at Serenity Bay for almost 2 hours, then made my way to the bike rental spot. The biking path was neat, and it was a fun way to see some other parts of the island.

Once I finished with my bike ride, I walked back to Serenity Bay to grab some lunch at the adult barbeque. I had a burger, pasta salad, cous cous salad (yum!), some fruit, some chips, and the famous chocolate chip cookie dough soft serve ice cream. Sooo good!

After lunch was over, it had warmed up quite a bit, so I went to the family beach to get my float rental. I spent a lot of time in the water, just floating over the gently bobbing waves. It was pure bliss. After I'd floated for awhile and dried off, I headed back towards Serenity Bay - I really liked how quiet and serene it was over there. I got a delicious blue drink called "Deep Blue Sea" from the bar. Not sure what all was in it, but it was bright blue and very tasty! While walking to one of the beach chairs, I also discovered a jellyfish in the shallow water!

I stayed on the beach until about 3:30, then began my sad walk back to the ship. I really took my time getting back, soaking up every last minute I could on the island. Getting closer to the ship, I also met the longest line I'd seen yet on the cruise - the line to get back on the ship! It seemed as though everyone had waited until the last possible second to get back on - but really, who could blame them?

Once back on the ship, I treated myself to a Mickey Bar from room service, and took it out to the deck 7 aft to watch us sail out of Castaway Cay. The ship's whistle blew again, and I couldn't help but think about how different it sounded to me. It may have been the same whistle I'd heard not even one week before, but it didn't have quite the same effect when it was signaling our journey home versus all the excitement that surrounded it as we were first setting sail out of Port Canaveral.
