Wait list info wanted

Continuing on my on going quest for info into DVC. Where can I get info on getting on a wait list? I know I can't buy into SSR this year, probably next year. I was thinking maybe I could get on the wait list for BCV (thinking for the future). Can I do this now or do I have to already be a DVC member? Thanks for all your input.

No, you'd have to already be a member, because MS asks for your membership # anytime you call them.

Are you talking about being on a waitlist for purchase? If so, you might be best off to look at the resale sites. The prices will be a little less that way too, but you will need to find your own financing if you go with resale.

Actually, if you are talking about a purchase, you MIGHT be able to be on a waitlist for that, but you would fall into line behind lots of already members who are waiting to add on points at BCV.

If you are interested in purchasing a contract at BCV, call your guide and let them know you'd like to be placed on a waitlist for that resort. You do NOT need to be a member to purchase at BCV. You may need to give them a deposit in anticipation of purchase. If you are not yet ready to purchase, don't ask for the waitlist, as it could become available at any time.

Resale also allows you to purchase at the resort of your choice and may save a few dollars over a direct purchase- although BCV may not be much of a savings.

If you want BCV, then call your guide, tell them that you are not interested in purchasing SSR, but you would be interested in getting on the waitlist for the BCV. The guide might try to discourage you, because the wait can be quite long, 7 to 8 months, but don't let that stop you from buying where you want. You will have to give them a CC#, and when the points come in, they will charge a 500 dollars deposit immediately. So, when you get on the list, be ready to buy whenever the points become available.

If you are not an owner, you must buy 150 points. If I were you, I would indicate that I would take ANY use year, that way, you might get the points more quickly. With any use year, you sort of get on the waitlist for all the use years and increase your chances of a quick fill.

So maybe it would be ok to go this route as I am not in a big hurry to buy. I am under the impression that it would probably take a while to get BCV, correct? Also could someone give me a basic definition of use year? Thanks!

Use Year is simply the month of the year in which you get your next allotment of points. It really has not much of a bearing on when you can reserve. The only concern is the banking deadlines that come with the Use Year, and whether you are likely or not to cancel a reservation.

The use year is when the points renew each year. My use year is September, therefore, 150 points are deposited in my account each September. I have to use them or bank them during that year.

If you get on the waiting list for BCV through disney, and let's say they call on April 1st and tell you that your points are in, and they have a september use year, then you will have 150 points available to use immediately or by August 31, the last day of the current use year, and another 150 on september 1st.

Remember, if they do call and offer you the points and you don't buy right then and there, you will go to the bottom of the waitlist I am sure.

You probably wouldn't get a call that quickly, but, you could, some others on the waitlist are starting to get their BCV points, so it is a possibility.

But, the wait may be a long one. There is no way of knowing for sure. But, most guides will tell you that the wait is very long and advise you to buy SSR. My advice would be to get on the waitlist if BCV is what you want, then the waiting is worth it. That 11 month advantage may become important in the future...

We were put on the waitlist on March 4 by our guide for 150 points at BCV and we are making our first purchase. We were told we were third on the list of people wanting to buy in at BCV, this list does not include those who are looking to add on to existing contracts. I don't know how long the wait is, I've heard people waiting 8-9 months, but I think that's because they are looking for a particular UY. We will take any UY, and our guide said the wait shouldn't be that long. But, we aren't in a hurry so we have no problem waiting. We looked, and are still looking for a contract through resale, but it seems most contracts are for more points than we're looking for, and with the closing costs and paying lump sum maintainence fees it cost about the same as through Disney. To be consistent with the UY's we already have mostly - makes for keeping track of them easier - especially when it comes to banking deadlines. For some, it does not really matter. Because when it comes to booking a room, it doesn't matter when they replenish, as long as you have points in or coming in to your account.

The thing that matters the most is Home Resort. You get an 11 month window to book at your home resort, 7 at the others.

Use year can be important if you ever have to cancel a trip. When you have a choice of use year, most guides will ask when you typically vacation, and then choose a use year that will give you a 100% banking deadline soon AFTER that timeframe.

For example: We tend to go in the summer since my DW is a teacher. By choosing a March use year, our 100% banking deadline is August 31st. Since our summer vacations are over before 8/31, if I have to cancel a trip (before that 31 day cancellation period of course!) I can bank all those points into the next year. (Assuming they were eligible to be banked) Use years, banking and borrowing rules are all very confusing and easy to misunderstand! There are lots of rules and it takes a while to get them all straight.

Wow 3 weeks. Sooo I guess I should wait even to go on the waiting list. Thank you everyone for your valuable information. I'm going to save all my pennies and maybe this time next year I'll be on here saying I'm officially DVC

Do you have to put up a deposit when you waitlist? We are looking to buy into BWV or BCV and we know we will have to waitlist. How much is the deposit? Is it a set amount (I think I read $500)or is it a % ? We are also looking at financing through Disney. Will the deposit come out of the total price?

Gosh, I can't remember. I think, we paid a deposit via a charge card when the waitlist came through and then, had to finance or pay in full when we returned all the documents. If I remember correctly, the guide took our credit card information down at the time of the waitlist but didn't charge until it came through. The deposit did go towards the total price. I thought it was a percentage of the total price. Boy, my memory is bad. We only finance for a year so, that was our reason for going through disney as well.

Hopefully, someone else has better memory. Your guide will tell you all the terms on the phone. YOu should call Disney for a guide and at least they can answer all your questions correctly.

I wouldn't count on that being the case today. BCV sold-out back in the Fall of '03. Chances are OurDogCisco got his/her points when someone agreed to buy and then later had a change of heart.
