I need some help from the experts with this one.

I am planning a trip to WDW in 2004, magic season. My home resort is the Lodge; however I would love to get a grand villa at Old Key West. Here is my plan let me know what you think.

At the 11 month window I reserve 3 studios at the lodge for the 5 nights that I need, this is my safety net. My friend, who's home resort is Old Key West, reserves a Grand Villa for the same 5 nights. Shortly after, when the Grand Villas at OKW fill up for that specific week, I get on I wait list, hopefully I'm the first. At the 7 month window my friend calls and cancels his reservation for the grand villa. Now the big question, what are the chances that I get called for the grand villa?

I realize that my friend could make the reservation in my name and I could then transfer my points to his account to pay him back. But this is not an option because I have borrowed in the past and I can not transfer points once they have been borrowed. Plus I would not want to put any restrictions on his ability to use the points, meaning he couldn’t bank then into the next year and so fourth.

Any help would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks,

Gene

No, there is no way at all that you could do that with certainty.

How could you possibly be first? What about the OKW owners who were already on the waitlist before the seven month window opened up?

Nope, aint got a chance of working.

Your only chance of getting it for sure is to trade points with a DVC owner and have them transfered before the eleven month window opens up. Even renting points does not give you a lock. The owner may have had a rough night, not gotten up till noon and when calling for the third night of your ressie, he mised out and you are on the waitlist, likely to come through, but still on the waitlist.

Or buy OKW points.

The thing is that you can't even put yourself on the waitlist until the 7 month window opens up, when you'd be able to get the ressie anyway. This plan won't work, unless you do a transfer with your friend, or make ressies in each others name.

Actually, I can be put on a wait list before the 7 month window. I was told that I can be put on the list but if something arises before the 7 month window I can not make the reservation. But I would still stay on the wait list.

Well that's interesting, I have always been told - okay the one time I asked - that if it wasn't your home resort you couldn't even waitlist until the 7 month window.

What's the real answer here?

I've always been told the same thing.... this is getting interesting. Again, what's the real answer??

I don't think that is true, I really hope its not. I really can't imagine that this is possible.

Me either, and I would be very annoyed if it were true.

Well, I dragged out my POS, and I am NOT an expert on it but....
I would think the wording on the top of page 6 (or 18) that says:

"...Club Members who own Ownership Interest at other DVC Resorts may only attempt to reserve the use of that Vacation Home for that Use Day during the period commencing seven (7) months in advance of that Use Day..."

I think this would ensure the home resort waitlist priority. I am hinging this on the word attempt.

Doc, Dean, or drusba will likely have better information on it.
