Came across this on MSN- Top wacky warnings found on products.



Winning entries in the 10th annual Wacky Warning Label Contest, sponsored by the advocacy group Michigan Lawsuit Abuse Watch:

— Winner: “DO NOT put any person in this washer,” from a tag on a front-loading washing machine.
— 2nd place: “Never use a lit match or open flame to check fuel level,” from a label on a personal watercraft.
— 3rd place (tie): “Do not iron,” from a Super Lotto ticket.
— 3rd place (tie): “Don’t try to dry your phone in a microwave oven,” from a cell phone.
— Honorable mention: “Please do not use this directory while operating a moving vehicle,” from the cover of a phone directory.

A few years back I heard a comedian talk about the warning "do not eat" on the little packs of silicone that come w/ a new pair of shoes.

On the instructions for our DDs excersaucer it said 'Not to be used as a flotation device'

Also, on the drug information sheet that came with sleeping pills one of the side effects listed was 'drowsiness'. Well, duh, that's kinda the point isn't it?

I love it. So is the lotto ticket drip-dry only or can you tumble it on low? What about bleach?

—A few years back I heard a comedian talk about the warning "do not eat" on the little packs of silicone that come w/ a new pair of shoes.

We always refer to those things as "do not eats" in our house. As in: "don't forget to throw out the do not eat before the dog gets it" or "shouldn't there be a do not eat in this box?"

We have a friend who sends us funny warnings all the time. Here are a few of the winners he sent over the years.

1. Bottle of drain opener. Warning label said "If you do not understand, or cannot read, all directions, cautions and warnings, do not use this product"

2. A warning label found on a baby stroller cautions the user to “Remove child before folding”

3. A household iron warns users: “Never iron clothes while they are being worn”

4. A cardboard car sunshield that keeps sun off the dashboard warns, “Do not drive with sunshield in place”

5. A warning on a pair of shin guards manufactured for bicyclists: “Shin pads cannot protect any part of the body they do not cover”

6. A box of birthday cake candles says: “DO NOT use soft wax as ear plugs or for any other function that involves insertion into a body cavity.”

Oh my- The thoughts in my head right now

What makes these things so funny- Someone has prob. done that, and that is why there is now a warning. Just like the hot coffee at McDonalds.

LOL I know! Some of the ones he's sent us just make you scratch your head wondering why someone would even attempt to do what they are warning you not to try to do.

A label on a snow sled that advises users: "Beware: sled may develop high speed under certain snow conditions"

On an electric router made for carpenters: “This product not intended for use as a dental drill”

A sticker on a toilet at a public facility warning: “Recycled flush water unsafe for drinking”

On a dishwasher: "Do not allow children to play in the dishwasher"

A label on a hand-held massager advises consumers not to use “while sleeping or unconscious”

A can of self-defense pepper spray warns users: “May irritate eyes”

A popular scooter for children warns: "This product moves when used."

But one of my favorites is

A flushable toilet brush warns: "Do not use for personal hygiene."

O....M....G...that is my personal favorite too.

Can you imagine what prompted some of these warnings?

Probably some were from the makers trying to be proactive, but there is a part of me that likes to imagine the idiots learning the hard way (not death or anything, just a real bad lesson)

I was driving down the road one day and saw some sort of industrial truck with a gas tank on the side with the warning 'DO NOT DRINK' printed on it.

A few years ago, someone gave DD14 a lava lamp. The warning sticker on the bottom said: Remove coat and shoe before use.

DD just got Nintendogs for Christmas in the instructions is a warning that is several paragraphs long. I am not kidding! It goes on and on about how owning a Nintendog is not the same as owning a real dog and that real dogs grow (REALLY?) unlike Nintendogs who stay puppies. There was all kinds of stuff about how real animals need special care and yada yada. DD and I were just rolling reading all of those instructions.

I know there was a really silly one on the Senseo directions too but I cannot remember it.

Oh yes, and my sis has a favorite one that she saw here and thought was hilarious. It is a small sign at the side of the road that says, "Do not drive in ditch." She was really worried that drivers needed to be told that and laughed and laughed. It is actually for snow mobilers in the winter but it was summer at the time and she had no idea.

On a carton of Organic Milk--clearly labeled MILK in many places....


A teeny warning on the back:

Allergy Warning: Contains milk!

Good thing for that warning--so the product wasn't mistaken for a carton of OJ or something.

Hubby just opened our Cinderella Waffle Maker today.

In the instructions:

"Keep instructions for household use."

Naturally if you were using it in a restaurant--you could just toss out the instructions and wing it.

I keep seeing this on the Best Buy coupons that we print out on the computer. We receive these as part of the Best Buy Rewards program.

The coupon, which is a little smaller in size than a dollar bill, is printed out on a full sheet of paper. Under the coupon are the words: Please cut out this coupon and fold it so that it will fit better in your wallet.

I mean, do people really need to be told to cut out the coupon and fold it so that it'll fit in a wallet.
