Has anyone else ever had a hard time getting their w2s from a previous employer? I haven't posted on here is a while, but I'm just so frustrated. I quit my old job, where I was just a grunt in fast food, last August. Now, they are giving me the run around about my w2s. Recently, my fiance called and gave them our new address. They took the address, supposedly wrote it down. A couple weeks ago, we stopped in to see if the w2s had been released yet. They, located in Erie, PA, said the corporate office mailed them out now. The last two years, they were sent to the store in Erie, but when I need mine, they are suddenly mailed from the corporate office, which, I believe, is located in Kentucky!

Well, on the 28th, my fiance got his w2. It was sent to the old address, but we did a change of address form for him with the post office, so it arrived at our new apartment. The envelope was postmarked for Erie, PA and dated the 26th. I am lviid, and I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

Thanks for letting me vent a little...

Well - they have until Feb 1st to provide it to you. Did you fill out a change of address form for you too? or just in his name? (not sure I read that part right)
Contact the manager at the place you worked at again & ask how to obtain a duplicate.

Good luck!

This is going to sound sooooo stupid, but...I don't remember my old address. I only lived there for two months. I can't find my old address anywhere. I asked a couple people who had it, but they lost it too.

Did you have your mail forwarded?

I was going to, but I don't have the old address. I've been trying desperately to find it, but no one else remembers it either.

You didn't have your mail forwarded through the post office when you moced?

Since your fiance's W2 was sent to the old address and then forwarded, wouldn't that mean the old address is on his W2? Why don't you just read it off his?

I lived in a different place than he did. The reason I didn't have my mail forwarded was because I never had any mail sent to that address. I used my parents because it was the summer between my freshman and junior semesters. I only used that addy when I applied for the job because I wanted them to realize I was close to the job.

Since you terminated your employment with your old company it is actually pretty much SOP that they would be mailing your W2 for the prior year to your address on record. If you did not provide them with updated information, it isn't their fault. As long as they mailed the W2 to you by Jan 31, they have done all they need to do.

At this time, it is your responsibility to provide them with your current address and request a duplicate W2 form. Hopefully, the original will be returned to your former employer and sent to your new address. Because of the personal information on it, you may want to keep an eye on your credit for the next few months in case the original fell into the wrong hands at your former address.

Did you tell your former employeer about your address change?? I can not tell you how many W-2's I get back because the employee (former) moved and didn't give us a new address. I would call the former employeer and ask.

I worked for my previous employer for almost three years. On multiple occassions before I quit, I tried to change my address with them. They were always too busy or didn't have the paperwork on hand. When I quit, it was not on good terms.

When I realized they still didn't have the correct address, I contacted them. It was the middle of December when we phoned and gave the current address to one of the managers.

A couple of weeks ago, we stopped in to ask if the W2s had come in yet. According to the manager we spoke with, all W2s are being mailed from the corporate office in Kentucky. We have since discovered this was a lie, because my finance's was mailed from Erie, PA, not Kentucky. It was mailed to his old address on Jan 26, well after giving them the new address over the phone and stopping to speak with them in person.

I did all that I could to change my address with my old employer, but I feel they are bearing too big of a grudge to comply. When we spoke with our old manager, she said she couldn't request a replacement W2 until after March 15th.
