My kids really want to try VWL, so I booked it for 2 nights. I was reading some reviews and now am not sure if I should have booked. Are the rooms really that run down? Is the resort worth not caring about the rooms. We are not in our room much anyway, but I don't want to feel like it is dirty. Can anyone give me some insigh, who has been there i nthe last few months. Thanks!

Very few rooms at WDW are truly 'run-down'. I'm not sure where these reviews come from. I have never stayed in a villa that was run-down. Now, VWL are not my favorite DVC resort. BUT many, many others love it there. Someone may have run into a housekeeper that didn't keep their room up to snuff...but that just doesn't happen very often with villa stays.
It won't be dirty, or run-down. You're only going for 2 nights. I'm sure it will be fine.

We've stayed at VWL several times over the past year, and the rooms were never dirty, nor did the furnishings, bedding, etc. feel spent. Used, yes...think of the traffic these rooms get. Spent, no.

Just like non-virtual world rumors, one Disboarder's reported experience with a room victimized by shoddy housekeeping quickly becomes a generalization for the whole resort. You could probably at any point in time on the Disboards find a room report on every DVC property that would leave you quaking.

If you visit a lot, there will likely be an occasion when something about a room is awry (like the rolled up dirty diaper we found behind a curtain in an AKV room). Happily, that's been the exception rather than the rule for us. Now, if multiple people have the same experience over time, then that's more valid evidence to me of an overall trend of a property falling into disrepair.

An isolated set of messy rooms could be the result of a cast member who is just not cut out to be a mousekeeper (and who hopefully will quickly be identified as such and re-cast).

We have had lovely stays at WL.
The WL rooms are darker than other resorts, maybe that makes people think they are dingy? I have not ever experienced a dirty room at WL.

We were just in a two bedroom villa at VWL in January for eight nights. The room was perfect. I love the decor and theming of the resort. That's why we own points there.

We stayed in a studio for 2 nights in February, and it was possibly the best part of our stay. Well, we liked POR too, but we also stayed at Kidani and SSR that trip (and Hard Rock, which wasn't our cup of tea though we love the other two Universal resorts), and VWL was the best villa we were in of the 3 DVC resorts.

I don't know what reviews you're reading, but it wasn't mine! :)

who's talking dirt on my 'home'?:rolleyes1;)

When i read a review of any hotel as to complaints about housekeeping, I always wonder if the reviewer bothered to call and voice their concerns/complaints? Oversights do happen, it's how the property responds to the issue that makes all the difference.

reviews are subjective but WL is currently ranked 20th out of all the Orlando resorts on tripadvisor.

VWL is a pretty resort, the rooms were on par with what we've experienced at Beach Club Villas or Old Key West. The rooms at VWL are dimmer.

Just check your room when you check in, if something is amiss call the frontdesk or mousekeeping.

Judging by my signature, my opinions will be biased, but I feel certain you will enjoy VWL. As others have noted, the overall theming at the WL (including VWL) is that of a great, northwest lodge with hues of dark reds, greens, and tans. Far from being dark and rundown, I find the color pattern relaxing and embracing. WL, and by extension VWL, is a cozy, serene resort that whisks you away from the overall hustle and bustle of the parks and the similar ambience of other resorts. After a day in the parks, coming home to a quiet resort is heaven-sent. While the rooms don't appear as bright and airy such as those at BWV or BCV, they are just as spacious and very calming, and I've never experienced a dirty room at VWL, though I know it can happen to anyone on any particular stay. Keep your reservation. ;)

On an ancillary note, there are tons of fun things to do at WL from playing on the beach, to sumores around a campfire, movie nights on the beach, a walking trail to FW, Hidden Mickey hunt, and much more. Put your mind at ease, sit back, and relax while at VWL. Have fun! :thumbsup2

Thanks everybody, I feel much better. I am going to keep the reservation.

We will be there this August too and I agree- it is a "darker" resort and it may come off and dirty, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. :)
