My DW and I have been tossing this about and we are 99% sure we are going to become DVC members, our love for Disney and our plans to visit frequently make this a pretty sure decision, but we are trying to figure out if it would be wiser for us to buy into VWL which we like alot (we are MK area kind of people and have stayed at lodge before and loved it) or buy SSR and use our points at VWL or other DVC sites. Besides cost and time out that you can book your stay does anyone else have some insight that can help our decision?

If you want to stay at the VWL, then buy a resale for there. Don't depend on SSR points to get your reservation. VWL is one of the smallest DVC resorts and will get increasingly hard to book after the 7 month window opens as more people become DVC members. Some times of the year are diffucult now for those of us who wait until after the 11 month window has been opened for a while (Christmas to New Year's).

The only catch is financing. For SSR through Disney it is easy to get and to pay for DVC (direct withdrawl from your account). To buy a resale you will need to set up your own financing.

Buy where you want to stay.

I'll second what HBC indicated, as far as buy where you want to stay the most.

I put that in bold because it is one piece of advice that the vast majority of us on these boards think is valid.

And actually, VWL is the smallest DVC resort, with 136 rooms.

Ask yourself if you'd be okay with spending vacation time at SSR. If you are okay with that, and think staying at VWL occasionally if available, then maybe an SSR purchase would work for you. Remember, the SSR contract is for 50 years and the VWL is for 38 years.

But if you're like us, and really, really like WL and VWL...then I'd strongly suggest you pursue a resale contract there.

Good luck in your decision.:)

Yeah, what Granny said.

Especially the part about really really liking VWL :wave2: .

I would agree with everyone here... "Buy where you want to stay..."

That being said... A couple of other things to factor in...

Length of contracts:
VWL contracts will expire in 2042... SSR contracts expire in 2054.. If the 12 extra years are a big issue (and for many potentional buyers they are), then SSR is currently the only resort to offer them... (Eventually DVD will more than likely build other resorts with the longer contract scheme, and some have speculated that they may offer "contract extensions for those of us who purchased at the other resorts..)

Location:
You have already said that you'd like to be close to MK... SSR is across from DTD, and is a bit of a ride from MK...

Grand Villas:
SSR has Grand Villas, whereas VWL does not.

Community Hall:
SSR has a community hall, whereas VWL does not.

Size:
As was previously posted.. VWL is the smallest DVC resort, and shares its accomidations and CM's with WL guests..

Room Layout:
While the differences between the VWL and SSR rooms are not as drastic as between OKW and BWV or BCV and Vero, there are some minor changes with the SSR Rooms... The two main things that come to mind are the bathroom layouts and where the adjoining door in the 2BR units are located.

Room Decor:
VWL and SSR both have dark stained trim and furniture, but the theming is quite different.

Thanks for your replies it has given us some more to consider, I think we will be leaning more to buying at VWL, we have 2 children 5 and 2 being nearer the parks will be good, the boat ride to MK would be nice....oh great now my wife is ohing and ahing the pic of BWV... But I think we will go VWL when we buy thanks again for your help.
