VWL or SSR for December

We just joined DVC is May and we are traveling Dec 1-5. We bought into BLT and of course we joined to late to get a room there, so we are booked for SSR. We always stay on the monorail system so I am very concerned about the transportation from SSR! I am thinking about changing to VWL and wanted see what everyone's opinion is!!!! Thanks!!

VWL is the smallest DVC (fewest rooms) and generally the most popular for december. early december is a major peak season for DVC and many owners book at 11 months out - waiting till 6 months out is really stretching it...

there's no harm in waitlisting VWL (and BLT if you like) but don't get your hopes up. it's a long shot.

VWL is probably the most popular resort for early December. Many members own there just so they can stay there in December so it is very unlikely you will find availability there for those dates, especially since you are one month in to the 7-month window. I think your best bet is to see if your guide can get you into BLT. There are many rooms there that are not yet part of DVC so they are not available to book on points through MS. Your guide may be able to get you in this one time only, though this usually works best if you make it a condition of purchase. Give your guide a call and see if he/she can pull some strings for you. I hate to sound like a broken record, but the odds of getting anything at VWL for early December are extremely low. As the other have said, it's a good idea to get on a waitlist because you never know what might happen (even though the waitlist for that time of year is also huge). You can also put in a second waitlist at another resort, but this time of year, most everything is booked (except SSR) and movement is slow to non-existent. All that aside, SSR is a very lovely resort, and it's close to DTD. Enjoy!

If you just joined maybe you could call your guide and see if he/she could sprinkle some pixie dust?

BTW, we love WLV. I'd pick wlv over ssr IF your big concern is transportation. At least WLV have a boat that goes to MK. Not as cool as monorail but still a lot of fun.

Thanks for the info!! I had call MS today and they had an opening for our dates.....hopefully they are still there tomorrow!!! and I put a call in to Ron to see if he could help with BLT!!! Thanks again for the tips!!!
