VWL Merchandise?

Why is it that there never seems to be any VWL merchandise? Last time we were at BCV, they had several different types of shirts to choose from. I can't remember ever seeing anything at VWL, other than the regular DVC merchandise. I know it's one of the smallest resorts, but I know I would buy it! Does anyone know why this might be?

I spoke to the DVC guide at the desk outside the Iron Spike room at VWL about that very thing when we were there last week. I was disappointed because we had just been at the Boardwalk and had seen shirts there that said "Boardwalk Villas" with the DVC logo that were very nice and there was nothing like that the the VWL (our home resort). He said that it was up to the managers at each of the individual gift shops to decide whether or not to order/get/carry that kind of thing for DVC'ers. I don't know if he's right about that, but that's what he said. I expressed my frustration at getting DVC merchandise in general and the discrepancy in selection at the various DVC properties. He said that DVC (or DVD, not sure which) has been talking about or trying to get space at DD Marketplace for a DVC store or kiosk so that there would be a central location and then, hopefully, a wider selection. I asked him to tell management to put in ten votes from me for this idea! He said there's some hold up with the Marketplace being willing to rent/lease space to them because they were unsure they could sell enough merchandise. Seems like a fishy story to me. Since when do the leasing agents care if whatever store goes in makes money? As long as the rental or lease agreement is paid up it shouldn't matter. Maybe I'm missing something, or maybe this guy had no idea what he was talking about. More rumors for the mill!

Most retail rental agreements I know of in places like DTD (i.e., a mall) are based on a percent of sales per square foot plus a flat rental. That might explain why they are concerned about viability.
