VWL is now Boulder Ridge

Boulder ridge villas just doesn't roll off the tongue right and the other one is a tongue twister. Am I the only one who keeps wanting to call it cooper creek anyway? Ugh! I'll be fine with it if they just give me some trees back.

Yes, more trees, pleeeeze!

But if the cabins are a 3 BR set up, look for them to be the same points as Poly Bungalows.
Agree wholeheartedly, and I meant to say as much. Given the price/point creep on all things DVC resorts-related, I can't imagine them offering the new Copper Creek suites (of which I feel very confident there will be studios, 1BRs, and 2BRs) for much less than the current structure despite the Lodge not being on the monorail--it DOES have boat access to MK and CR so there is that caveat for them. As for the cabins, I'm undecided whether they will be 2BRs or 3BR grand villas. One can make a case for each. Given the disappointment and general lack of fervor regarding the decision to have only studios (or the ultra expensive bungalows) at Poly, I can't imagine the new rooms in the south wing of the main Lodge not having some 1BRs in addition to studios. If that is so, then it wouldn't make much sense to not make at least some of those lock-offs in order to create 2BR suites. Does that mean the cabins automatically become 3BRs? Not necessarily. The cabins could be ultra-swank 2BRs instead which would make them more costly than the 2BRs in the main building but still less than a grand villa would be. By doing so, the cost for renting a cabin would remain below that of a Poly bungalow which makes sense given the cachet of Poly being on the monorail. Since it's fun to speculate, I'm going to suggest that the rebuild in the south wing will be a mix of studios and 1BRs to allow for the possibility of some 2BRs, and those prices will be slightly below those for VGF. Further, the cabins will be dedicated 2BRs with a cost below the Poly bungalows but not by a lot. ;)

Afraid I haven't been paying much attention to what all is going on there. I mean I know the villa pool is closed & they've taken down a lot of trees out of the "wilderness" and that they're building bungalows but what else are they doing? Are they making more regular villas too? Any time estimate for completion? We loved it the one time we stayed there & I would like to plan to go again one day - but not until construction is done.

A year or so ago, Disney began clearing trees, shut off the beach, razed the Hidden Springs pool, and closed the entire south wing of the main Lodge. As they formally announced (but was widely known before that) two or three months ago, all that activity is in preparation for DVC's 14th resort, Copper Creek Villas and Cabins. They are building 26 cabins along the shore of the lake (12 north of the main Lodge, 14 south) and refurbishing all the rooms in the aforementioned south wing. While Disney apparently can't legally say exactly what this resort will include until it's ready to offer for sale, it's widely believed that the redone rooms in the south wing will all be DVC suites and the cabins will be part the new resort, as well (hence, the new name). Disney originally said construction would go well into 2017, but even money says it will linger into 2018, though they do appear to be making significant progress on the construction and refurbishment. Along with the suites and cabins, a new building now sits where the beach was which is rumored to be a QS and possibly a bar. The new villas pool has had its foundation laid, as well. No time frame has been given for when the new resort will go on sale, but it's still some time out. As a result of this new resort--CCVC--the current resort (VWL) has been renamed to Boulder Ridge Villas, official as of 25 Oct 16. On a side note, I will never, ever call my beloved VWL as anything but that. This whole BRV ain't happening at my house no matter what the official paperwork or website says. ;)

Will there be studios?

Disney has not made any formal announcement on this project other than there will be a new DVC resort at the WL location and that it will include the cabins. So no word officially on what will be offered in addition to the cabins.

However, I think it is very safe to assume that there will be studios in the South wing conversion of the Wilderness Lodge resort.

Just to clarify: The entire south half of Wilderness Lodge is being converted to DVC villas, not just the south wing.

I was originally under the impression that only the hotel rooms in the south wing were being converted to DVC villas. But it was pointed out to me by the Cast Members at Wilderness Lodge that the rooms on the south side overlooking the lobby have been shuttered as they get converted into villas.

There are 728 hotel rooms at Wilderness Lodge. If the entire south half of the Lodge is switching over to DVC inventory, it cuts the cash portion down to 364 rooms. It also means that unless it creates one, two, or three-bedroom villas from the converted hotel rooms, DVC will be starting out with a slate of up to 364 studios (which is more than the 360 studios at the Polynesian Villas & Bungalows).

Lots of interesting news still to come from Copper Creek. Maybe DVC will announce some of its plans at the DVC Annual Meeting in December?

Point well made about the south half of WL being converted. I've been using South Wing more as a descriptor but your comments are right on target.

I don't think Disney will announce anything at the Annual Meeting since they aren't ready to start selling. Since they've at least already confirmed that they're building CCV, I suppose they could give a timeline for it but I don't see them wanting to do that unless PBV is getting close to selling out. Last I heard, there was still plenty of PBV inventory to go.

Have to admit being confused between the difference of "south wing" and "south half" of the Lodge. I use them interchangeably which, obviously, isn't correct. I did mean the entire southern portion of the main Lodge as that entire area is, indeed, shuttered. ;)

I'd consider South Wing and South Half to be the same. The wing indicates the entire section. Now if someone were stating that the south facing rooms were being converted that would not seem to describe the rooms facing the lobby, but wing includes those too I'd believe.

Same league as Poly and VGF, perhaps a smidgen lower given the new resort won't be on the monorail.

I think it will be very hard for DVC to justify why Copper Creek should be more points per night for a unit of similar size to Boulder Ridge (doesn't mean they won't try, though). They can't lower the price per point, but Boulder Ridge is much lower points per unit than BLT, Poly, or VGF. Aside from the cabins, the units aren't really "newer" as the main building is older. Yes, they were recently constructed (I'd say renovated, really), but all villas are refurbished over time.

When we were there last month, we had a corner villa overlooking the construction of the south wing/new villas. All the walls/rooms themselves are gone! We watched workers walk straight thru from one side of the building to another (see pic). The only things standing were the supports. This would make a strong case to me they will be doing all options of villas - studios, 1 BR, and 2 BR (maybe even a GV) - since they are starting from a blank canvas and can choose any configuration they want.
The draw for these new villas I can see: (1) all options: studios, 1 BR, 2 BR, (2) with a better/new configuration over existing (maybe even a little more lavish), (3) villas on the 7th floor - high probability of CL, (4) later expiration date. Add all that up = almost Poly point levels and costs IMO. The wild card of course is the cabins. No idea if they will be 2 BR, GV, or what but I would hope they learned their mistakes from the Bungalows and will do a better job. But also part of the higher costs across the board.
