If DVC/DVD WANTED to add on to VWL, wouldn't it be possible to do so? We've only spent one night there, and didn't have time for a complete survey of the property, but it certainly appears there would be room for expansion.

If it's possible, why not? Are there legal complications? DVC seems to have a strong desire to expand, so why not at VWL?

It is surrounded by swamp land or FW.

swamp land is part of wetland and Disney can't built on it.

Spiceys right, its all swamp and wetlands, I'm amazed they got it in the way they did. I said this a few years ago, how awsome would it be to have "cabins" built around the lake kind of like Vero's Beach Cottages!!!! Since they don't have 3 bedroom grand villas, I think this would be so cool!! Maybe someday, or maybe out on the island! That would be a blast! Wilderness Island, your home away from home!! Okay, I will stop now! :goodvibes

well FW does have a ton of land right next to VWL....

maybe in a few years DVC could get some of it!!!

You mean on old Discovery Island?! That would be cool. But I can already hear complaining on this board that "VWI has lousy transportation". :rotfl:

spiceycat, you're just a party pooper! ;)
Since we stayed on the path when biking and walking, guess I never realized how swampy it was. Or that FW land came that close to VWL. I didn't think of it as FW until I crossed that last road and came out of the woods near Pioneer Hall.

Two of the main reasons we bought at VWL was Discovery Island and river Country, by our first trip, both were closed!!! :headache: But we bought for other reasons also, now if they close Fort Wilderness, that will be it!! I like the idea of the nature trails, and quietness of the whole place. Water pagent every night, Old Faithful, boat ride to MK or Momorail resorts, etc. Plus the whole themeing of the resort. But I wish they would build some grand villas! That would be nice!

There is a possibility they could build another wing branching from the walkway area. It would be smaller, for sure, than the extended wing thats there now. But, service areas would have to be rearranged.

I hope they never do it though. Thats part of the appeal for us, the smallness of it. What some see as a downside, others see as an upside.

There is enough land, outside of wetlands, to double the size of the DVC there. Recall, there were serious plans to make "another WL" just up a bit further, towards River Country. Now most of that space was taken-up by the existing VWL, but there is still some space left.

Beyond that, there were rumors a few years ago about relocating the camping/RVing resort from its current location on the edge of Bay Lake to a location on the southern end of the WDW property. That would, of course, free-up the entirety of Fort Wilderness for a new deluxe resort. Nothing ever came of that, as far as I recall.

Don't you think that tearing down the trees would take away from the ambience of WL/VWL? I think the trees and woodsiness really make that place what it is.
