Was txtn my buddy about ROR and I was telling him how well the vq system is working and that I thought Disney should keep it this way and he said they are, said the vq was never a temporary system and was always setup to remain in place for ROR. I told him there was fp line setup and he said he wasn't sure but maybe was there for ride break downs to issue fp and for all the special touring plans. After hearing that, here is my theory on it, were going see big changes to the fp system and a change of the tier rides. We will eventually see all the new rides on the vq and even the already popular rides like TT and FOP going vq. Those rides go vq and wont have a free fp at all but will be in the paid fp tier. Basically, u have the option to either join a free boarding group or pay a fee to get a fp. All the normal rides like haunted Mansion and pirates stay the same but the most popular rides are all going vq with pay fp option. U still get to ride it for free and without waiting in line with vq but if u would rather pick the exact time or not have to go to early u can buy a fp. Obviously my thoughts are just a theory but as for ROR staying vq, my buddy said that's official and came from Disney. Anyone heard this.

It is temporary. How long? We don't know. They have the aspects set up for it to eventually use FP+. They aren't there yet because of popularity and because the ride isn't working at 100%.

So much for my theory..lol..hopefully they continue to use the vq system for all upcoming new attractions, its nice being able to ride without the waiting, at least until the new wears off and fp comes available.

Is your buddy a bus driver at Disney?

I was thinking this was how they should have done FoP, but I don't really see any need for it for other rides at the moment. Of course, I try to avoid traveling at peak times anyway, so I may not see the worst crowds anyway.

No, he doesn't work for Disney, good one though, ha. Hes just a huge Disney guy, an AP holder and DVC member that follows Disney really close. He is usually spot on with his info. So time will tell.

For full time VQ on RotR see FOP - People will queue for a quality ride & Disney have done as well as they could have with the demand for both.

FP+ will be added to RotR at some point & also Smuggler's Run and once they are it will give people a wider choice of FP+ tier 1 if they keep ToT.RnRC & SDD as Tier 1 too.

Chances are u exactly rite but something tells me there something in the works and were going be seeing a big change in mde and the current fp+ program. Disney has already been playing with the tiers, they also have introduced paid fp for premium guests and now they've rolled out the VQ system. They are testing the waters and I truly believe were going see some big changes. The way it is now, it's almost impossible to get a FOP or MT fp especially if ur a 30 day advance only guest for fp. The only option these guest have is a 2hr+ standby line, not ideal condition. With vq, it gives a equal opportunity for everyone to ride with minimal wait, it's been a huge success for Disney. Now, the only downside to the vq is u have to get there early before the boarding groups fill up but if they offered a pay fp where u can choose ur time without getting there early, well now they have solved the problem for those who dont want get up early. Just my theory but I'm betting we will see rides like, ROR, FOP, TT, MT, TRON, GUARDIANS all go to boarding groups with the option to purchase a fp. These type of rides will be removed from the free fp pool, u will have to either get boarding group or buy fp but all the other rides will remain normal. I mean, Disney is already doing this just in different stages, I look for em to add it all together for one new and better fp program. The fact they have a fp line doesn't mean its going to be free or used the same as the other rides.

I happen to think the VQ system is much better than the FP+ system. I hate that the FP+ system forces you to pick which days you're going to visit which park either 30 or 60+ days in advance. It's really frustrating and takes the spontaneity out of a Disney trip. Heck even the weather can change plans but the FP system forces you to do what you planned 60 days earlier.

I think they should use VQ in lieu of giving out fastpasses but still have standard standby waiting system. So it's basically the same as FP except that the FPs are given out in the morning instead of 60 days earlier. It's basically the FP system but without running to rides to get the paper FPs.

Blogmickey is also stating that the vq boarding group process is also likely permanent. Guess time will tell.

The new “mid-day” tickets that Disney now offers makes me think the vq process may be here to stay. More people will have to show up before rope drop if they want to ride important new rides. Those with mid day tickets won’t have a chance at a boarding group, thus the lower price for those tickets.
Edited to add: Ooops, I see those mid day tickets ended on December 15.

Disney spent billions of dollars on FP+, they are not going to dump it and go strictly to VQ/standby.

I didn’t say that this is what Disney will do. I said that this is a better system for the visiting customer. Clearly FP+ is better for Disney.

They extended the special pricing now through September 2020

Billions on an app huh, lol...nobody said their going to dump it. I said their going to keep it like normal for most of the rides but for the more popular rides where they use boarding groups, their still going use the fp except it will be pay fp only with free boarding group option.

Actually, fp is not better for Disney, it keeps more people in lines and also slows up the standby line which in return keeps those people in lines longer and Disney dont make money when people are waiting in lines. The less time people stand in line equals more time in shops and restaurants spending money. The whole intent of the vq is so people can continue to shop, eat and spend money whilst waiting for their time to ride. But u are correct, vq is definitely better for the extremely popular rides as it allows equal opportunity for everyone to ride without any long waits with the only downside u have to get there early. That's why if Disney added the pay fp to the already boarding group ride they would have the perfect setup. If u dont want get up early, u just pay for a fp and pick ur time. If u dont want to pay, then get up early and get boarding group. I bet anything we will see this.
