Many states have rolled out a policy of early voting in the last few years. Illinois is testing the policy with this election. Here, you can vote up to 21 days before the election. As well as (and this makes me very uncomfortable) you can register to vote in one room and then go vote in another.
I am really torn on the idea. I did, in fact, take advantage of early voting, because in my line of work, election day will be hectic (going between polling places, monitoring polling integrity, calling people out to vote, and in the end, partying it up with the winners
(my life is sooo difficult
)
I just dont see how a state like Illinois, with such a history of election fraud can claim that 21 days of open polling is not only needed, but safe. How can they possibly keep on eye on everything for 21 days? I can justify 4 days, open the polling locations on the Saturday before the election. But 21 days, it just seems a little excessive.
Thats my little rant for the day, as I have been fielding phone calls from concerned citizens all day. I need this day to be over with already.
