I'm a little confused and peeved with VMK. I was in the Haunted Mansion getting the daily credits on DH's character. I usually don't talk to anyone, but a guest was there asking how to get pins. I simply answered the guest that they could buy them, get them for doing quests, or there are codes for them. The guest then asked how to do a quest and I told the guest to hit the q button at the bottom of their screen. I then said the Pan quest was probably an easy one to start with.

Next thing I know, I get a warning from VMK about giving out personal information. What?? What was personal about that? :confused3 Apparently VMK doesn't want anyone helping someone else. From now on I will just keep my mouth shut!

I see all kinds of ridiculous things happening on vmk. Disgusting things and rude things, yet I get a warning for simply helping someone.

A lot of times these warnings don't have anything to do with you. There very well could have been another couple of players in the room using a trade window to disclose their personal information.

Regardless, the warning is just based on a computer algorithm. You wouldn't get banned because a human reads the chat logs to determine that.

In summary, just take the warnings in stride and if somebody ever asks you ANY kind of personal question reply with a simple "no comment".

I would definitely write right back to them either via Contact Us or the Help button (not sure which is better in this case) and ask what it was exactly that you got the warning for and explain what you were saying to the other member. So ridiculous. :sad2:

Actually no one else was talking or trading in the room. We were in the room for a while and then everyone was leaving, just trying to get their daily credits. I stupidly stayed to help. I never give out any personal information because like I said, I usually don't talk to anyone in the game. I've never even had anyone ask me for personal information.

I'm not concerned about the ban because I know I didn't do anything wrong and it was just a warning. It is the point that when VMK does these things, it deters others from helping someone. I, for one, will never help again. I wonder how many other people have been stopped from helping others.

I have received that 2 times but that's it my entire VMK career has been warning free of personal information.

One time I said something about school starting in the fall in a host room when talking about fall and one of the hosts told me not to be to personal. I thought it was kind of lame because I don't even go to school. Of course if I had said *THAT* then I would have been giving out TMI.

So.......to be honest I don't go into host rooms much and if I do, I don't say anything anymore.

I got that message once in the emporium and I did a contact us and asked what I did. They told me it was just a room warning not to worry about it if I was doing nothing wrong. I Wish I had saved the email from them to show you. From now on I will keep all emails to share.
Nonetheless I get nervous anytime I am in a community room so now when I log off of vmk I go to one of my own private rooms so my character does not linger in a public area for any time to get banned. Sad isn't it ? :upsidedow

what really frosts my cookies is when I use the "contact us" thing, and it won't let me type in what is wrong because of that stupid dictionary! That should at least be the one place where you can type out, word for word, what is going on. I am so sick of trying to dictionary dance to get to the point, that now i just throw everyone on ignore anymore.

Here is a quick story of what happened to me tonight:

I run a rare trade room on VMK called Jungle Eyes Rare Trades and tonight i had the full 15 people with a queue of about 10 to 20. Rarely is there a night where for some reason or another a warning gets sent out to the entire room about something (usually giving out personal information).

Tonight a host showed up in my room and walked to the middle and kindly said the following:

"I'd like to remind all of you that we shouldn't promise to hurt people in here. Do you all understand?"

Nobody had been threatening anyone in the chat windows, but obviously something went down in a trade window and somebody reported another person. What I like about this approach is that a VMK staff person took the time to personally remind the room of VMK values instead of a standard computer warning.

This is the first time this has happened to me in my room. Maybe VMK is getting wiser and confronting the complaints about warnings for no reason.

No, that's the problem with the Report button. Instead, you can use
the Contact Us link at the bottom of the vmk.com homepage and send
them a detail of the issue, without any dictionary dancing.

I still can't get the contact button to work on any of the pages on the VMK website. Does anyone have an email address or another way to contact them? I deleted the message so I can't use that avenue to contact them.

Do you have a pop up blocker working? When you click on contact us, it comes up in a separate window. :) That might be your problem. Just turn off the blocker or set it to accept new windows from the vmk site. :)

how did u give out info about your self by helping. tell VMK you didnt give out any info about your self.

What I do now and it seems to work better, at least for me, is a simple....

"Could you please check the chat log...."

I add the instance I am referring too like the last pirate game I was in.

I think that probably the OP's warning was a room warning not a warning for her. I think to avoid this confusion warning should be labeled so those receiving them know.

My brother SkippyPaul had the same thing happen to him a few months ago when apparently there was someone trying to scam ppl in his trade room. VMK_Lion showed up in his trade room sat down and gave everyone a quick lesson in safe trading. He told every one to be sure of what they were trading and what they were getting in return. He went over the basics of safe trading and was very nice. I think he wanted it to be a warning to anyone that might be trying to cheat someone that VMK is watching.

I remember that scooter. Yea, I think vmk does that, as well as the messages as reminders so people won't do those kinds of things

I am glad to see that staff are able to connect with players on a personal note by actually coming and talking to rooms that may be having issues with trading, giving out personal information, whatever. I think they will have more success with that because people will remember what staff says (especially kids) more than a message flashing across the screen giving people only a small slap on the hand. I only wish staff wern't bombarded by 10 people asking a million different questions every time you see them.
