i voted yes. Bottom line people, if VMK is slow, time to upgrade the Windows 1995 B.C.!!
You know what's funny, I would be surprised if more than two or three people are using anything older than XP. I'm running XP, and it takes about half an hour for the game to load, where it used to take 2 or 3 minutes. It takes about fifteen minutes for my clothes to load.

I've mainly had trouble with fireworks ever since the last upgrade. For me, the game has hiccups that cause fireworks to either disappear faster than usual or freeze momentarily. It isn't always terrible, but this problem didn't exist before the upgrade. It's very frustrating...

I do have to say though, that my trades are smooth and they don't freeze, whereas before they always did. Usually then I would crash.

Mansion does take a minute to load for me, but it isn't a big deal.

EDIT: Also, when the game hiccups, the icons stick when I press the arrow keys.

I carry everything with me, and dont have the slow load times for clothing and items some are complaining about.

i wonder why some are so crippled while others are not?

I don't have these kind of problems either, and once I have opened and loaded my items, the next time I open them it is pretty fast to move from page to page. Could it be a RAM issue on each persons computer?

I would like to bump this up, just in case...

If possible, I'd like to keep it near the top at least until Friday in the hopes that maybe someone from VMK checks the Disboards once a week.

Third to last bump (I promise I won't bump this anymore after Friday).

Could it be a RAM issue on each persons computer?

If that was the case, then everyone would have an issue. I am running 2 gig of ram and have this issue. I actually have these issues on every PC I use. the fast ones, the slow ones, no different. all are running a gig of ram or better with at least a 256mb vid card and cable modem or T3 line.

Next to last bump for this thread...

One final bump since I forgot to bump it yesterday.

If you could keep this bumped near the top for the slim chance that a VMK staff member may read it, I would greatly appreciate it!

Dear VMK,

For the last month or two, because of the current game loading situation, it has been extremely difficult to play your game. I still greatly enjoy the game and would love to continue to play, but it has become very frustrating, as this situation has continued for too long.

When I try to log into the game, it will take 45 minutes to an hour on a good day. On a good day, it will take 15 minutes for a single room to load, even if I have already been in that room once before. On a good day, it will take an hour for my furniture to load and hours (yes, hours, plural) for my clothes to load. And don't even get me started on how long it takes rooms like the Mansion lobby and the Fantasyland rides, which load everything before you get on them, to load. On a bad day, well, I can't count that high. This never happened when the game loaded the way it used to.

It seems to me that these new features (the blue swirl while the clothes load and the green swirling box while the inventory loads) are having the opposite effect of what was intended. Now, if it was just me struggling with the slowness, I would try my best to look past it, irritating though it may be, but as you can see from the poll above, the overwhelming majority has stated that they have not seen a benefit from the new loading features and, in many cases, they have seen a slow down, as I have. Of course, this survey doesn't take into account people who have not voted and people who do not use the Disboards, so there is no telling how many others are affected by this. All I ask is, if it is in any way possible, please PLEASE go back to the old loading method. It would help not only me, but many, many other VMK players. If a VMK staff member reads this who has no control over this situation, I ask that you please let someone know who can do something about it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Nice job! I have seen a steady decrease. It used to take me 15 seconds to log in, and now it takes 10 minutes ( I have 1mb per second internet)

Yes...I've caught a bad case of the spins...Can anyone help? I'm out of ideas.

I did ask Mint if it was okay if I post details here. The situation for me is fairly new, but very similar to Mint’s.

In the last 2 weeks the quality of my VMK room and item loading has changed from usually trouble free to a long delay. I see the spinning people that Mint mentions in the original post. Gradually, my normal loads of clothes and furniture increased. I tried to keep a positive attitude and say to myself….I wonder what VMK is testing in the background. However, the problem is not intermittent. My load times have increased. Many friends remain trouble free.

It now takes about 10 minutes for 20 pages of clothes and 1 ½ pages of furniture to load. This happens on both of our computers which are normally on a wired network.

On my own, I have taken the steps below in an attempt to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, none have worked. Please note that the “friend” I mention consulting with in this post is someone with more computer related certifications than I can remember. He also has a significant amount of hands on knowledge, so it is not just “book knowledge”. Friday a tech from our cable company also came out and did some checks and tests.

Here’s the laundry list of what I tried to resolve the spinning/inventory loading issue:

  • All hardware and software meet and in many instances exceed the requirements on the VMK Homepage FAQ.
  • Problem exists on 2 computers when using both Firefox and Explorer.
  • One of these computers is pretty “empty”. Few additional programs have been added and email is not even run on it. No new programs have been loaded in over a month. Only normal (For example: Microsoft) updates have been downloaded and installed. No music or video downloads. No instant messaging.
  • Ran defrag on hard disk. No improvement.
  • Problem exists on main character and a secondary character.
  • Problem exists on both computers even when bypassing the router.
  • Problem exists on both computers when bypassing the firewall.
  • Antivirus programs and 2 additional spyware programs are updated and run “full scans” several times a week. No problems have been detected.
  • Various speed tests, pings, traces, and line tests detect no problems. Cable Tech and our friend did not see any issues with the signal, the line or connection speed. (Both the cable tech and our friend remarked that we had much better than average results. The friend is actually not pleased as he lives less than a mile away and our speed is faster.)
  • The cable tech did install a brand new modem, just in case. No change in quality of play in VMK.
  • Monitored CPU and memory usage while loading and playing VMK. Plenty of free resources.
  • Monitored router outgoing activity while just sitting on a generic web page. This was a very basic (less complete than checking all .exe files running blah blah blah) way to take a quick look to see if some how there was an unknown program on the computer trying to “get out to the net”. No activity.
  • I considered taking the CPU to a family member’s home 1 ½ hours away. They use a different internet provider. However, Mint has tried this and it did not make a difference. Instead I went to the local library. They have T-1 access, not cable. The computers however have slower CPU’s and less memory. The library has a different version of the operating system. At the library the secondary character was loaded. Yes, the spins were there too! First, I tried just wandering around VMK. Then I signed out and signed in again to do a test. From the point of entering the guest room it took 5 minutes for the guest room, clothes and furniture to load. At home the same test took 10. (There was a host event going on during the test at home.)

VMK, why do I have a case of the spins? Was it too much time in the Haunted Mansion? Please, if you have had a case of the spins in the past and are now cured, please take a minute to post what helped.

Has anyone found a cure for the VMK spins?

Whatever you do, don't lay down, they'll get worse.

On a more serious note, if I open my change clothes inventory in the first room I go into (pick one without anyone else in it), the spins don't keep occuring as frequently and as long when I move about the kingdom. It is a pain though since the spins were added.

OT: w00t! 100th post :) Boy, am I chatty lately.

I am moving this up because I have had a bit (knock on wood) of success.

Our older computer is now loading VMK "normal" when using IE6 or Firefox. We have not made any changes to this computer. Confused, but happy.

The newer computer is more interesting. On both computer each user has a profile. (So we can have our own wallpaper, bookmarks, etc.) Over the weekend the newer computer was up with my husband logged in. I was printing some things and reading Dis. I noticed the host quest was up and loaded VMK.

Since his profile never accessed VMK before, I was prompted to download and register shockwave. VMK and the rooms loaded like champs! The next day I signed on to the computer under my profile, went online and VMK, the rooms and inventory loaded slow. I immediatley signed out or my profile and signed on to his home network id/profile. Under his profile and also under administrator VMK, inventory and rooms loaded like champs! :confused3

Summary:
If I sign on to our newer computer as the administrator or as my husband, VMK loads fine in IE6 and Firefox.
If I sign on to our newer computer as me, VMK, the inventory and rooms load sooo slow with IE6 and Firefox.

All 3 profiles have the same versions of shockwave and flash. All 3 profile s have administrator permissions. I've even tried directions from other Dis posts on the proper way uninstalling and reinstalling these programs.

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Happy
