VMK Sponsored Quests Should not be too hard for kids

I'm concerned with the latest VMK quest (baseball) that requires things like catching 50 ghosts. My daughter can barely play the games, much less catch this amount. (I can't catch 50 ghosts either.) I really wish they would just require you to **play** the game rather than get a certain score...that would encourate kids to try new games and just relax and enjoy themselves.

I also did a quest last night that took me an hour, so I'm just glad my daughter was asleep because she would have gotten frustrated.

I'm just not sure anymore who VMK is really for. If it's for kids to have fun, should it actually be fun? I'm finding that it's getting too competitive for me to feel comfortable having my daughter too invested in it.

Am I overreacting?

Thanks for any input!!

The only way that they may chance it is for the parents to write to VMK and tell them how hard it is for their child. How upset your child is.

i'll help them with haunted mansion! we can meat up in my room become friends then go play the game

yes it is too bad - (you are great, Mewmewpur for offering to help someone!) but the issue is, the games are so competitive and people play over and over so like on fireworks - I just got 29,000 on level one which is my ALL TIME HIGH but of course most people were getting high 30,000 up to 40,000 and more so despite my five attempts, I can't even get to a higher level. I will try to play at a less crowded time, but with summer and vacation and weekend - I think this cap is out of my reach. And 50 ghosts!!! ha ha ha - I have NEVER caught more than 15 ghosts - at least in fireworks if I can claw past level 1 I can get the 50,000 points.

I can help with any games ( also fireworks got 3rd for my first time today )

.:Luna:.

yes 50 ghost is a really really unfair amount of ghost to catch I think I will have trouble doing that!

serious trouble. :(

the target age for VMK starts at 8 yrs old come on VMK I really doubt that my DS will be able to do this task not to mention the really young ones who plays!

I am having the same problem as Peri. I just can't play fireworks. Much less get 50 ghosts. Guess I will be stuck trading for them. If they are even tradeable. Does anyone know?

I understand the frustration I have to complete the quests for my dd6 and dw also they dd can not do it and dw is not a quest fan. and can I tell you I am at work all day If I have to restart fireworks or jungle cruise one more time because people walking in my office...

i can catch 40 something but never 50
(btw im new to dis and at school, i logged in right now) :) :teacher:

Thanks for the input everyone.

It's sweet of those of you who offered to help with the ghosts...but the whole point that we would need to arrange for that seems so against the idea of what VMK should be for kids. In my opinion, it should be something that kids are capable of doing on their own and have a sense of accomplishment about.

It's fine for me (as an adult) to try something fifty times, get frustrated, complain about it, decide not to do it, etc. But my seven year old is just too young to have to deal with that kind of thing. (She loves the quests where you have to find things, because she can do that. It's especially good when the time doesn't run out.)

There will always be "private" quests that are not going to be easy. But shouldn't VMK have a different standard?

Thanks for letting me vent.

No not at all! And VMK claims to be for kids, I started laughing at that months ago. My son will not be able to catch 50 ghosts, and I have yet to catch 50 ghosts. Although, today I had 52 and was on the quest...well like it has been said before on here I guess they don't count when you catch your opponent who has been turned and you get double points. So needless to say I did not complete the task. :confused3 Then there's all the times you get DC or people bail out of the game, it is really frustrating. VMK really has changed alot and I know people who have said their kids have cried over some of the things they have done lately. Oh well, sorry I went on and on..I needed to vent somewhere. lol

I don't think you're over reacting at all. VMK is supposed to be for kids. And I think they have gotten to the point where they are wanting some things to be "rare". Which I really don't agree with. Kids at the target age should actually be able to play these games without too much difficulty and to attain these items. Yes, they should be challenging, but not so difficult that many adults cannot even attain those items.

Parents really should be contacting vmk and telling staff that they need to ease up on some of the requirements. This is something that should be fun. Not frustrating and discouraging.

How do you contact VMK?

My ds8 can only complete the quests if I help him. I am not very good at any of the games but Fireworks.

We haven't been able to complete the space quest because I can't get 30,000 on Jungle Cruise.

50 ghosts. :lmao:

This for the thread.

I agree this quest was really not geared toward their target market of 8-12 yr olds. I'm pretty good at ghosts and it took me three trys to get the 50 required for the quest. It really is best to play with friends as we try to help each other make our goals. Playing with strangers reminds me that people have no problem running over you to get what they want! lol Good luck everyone!

i agree. While im doing it im thinking about my little sister is 9 and has never seen the movie which has nothing to do with it. She plays vmk basically for the magic of disney and not for the games. So ill end up doing this quest for her because it will be 2 hard for her

I just contacted VMK with my concerns. I encourage you all to do the same, if you do have concerns.

I basically went to the VMK home page and navigated around until I found a "contact us" button. I used that form to write to them.

Thanks again,

Shar

I totally agree. These quests are supposed to be fun for kids. This one made me miserable! I was trying so hard to get a hat for me and each of my kids. I am short one hat because I could not go through playing mansion again. There is no way that young kids can play that game. VMK needs to remember who they are targeting.

What bothers me most of all is for girls, this was the ONLY shot we had at a hat. At least if boys couldn't complete the quest, they had the blue hat. The whole thing makes me :furious: . Took me two hours to get my own hat. Then spent a total of over 3 hours and ten minutes on the Team "disaster waiting to happen" Baseball event just to try and play (eventually did at the last minute, otherwise I'd really be steamed!). Rushed to my mom's account to get her hat for her since she has trouble with the games aside from fireworks. I had done everything up to the ghost part before starting on the Team Baseball fiasco to save time. Got help from at least 1 DISer (I'm sorry, I don't remember if there were more of you! Either way, thank you so much! My mom thanks you as well! :thumbsup2 ) and finished the quest. Immediately hopped on my first ever mule that I created the other day and tried again to get another hat to trade it to a fellow DISer. Finished my 2nd try at Mansion at 12:53 and was 4 ghosts short. Needless to say, no hat. :badpc:

This just makes me so angry! If tomorrow's quest for the shirt is anything like this one, I guess I need to get cracking on it right at open. :surfweb: It makes me so sad to see people not get the hats (and girls not get ANY hat) because of innane requirements for a 1 day quest. If it was permanent, that's one thing. You can work towards it, like the Tomorrowland quests. But this is silly. 8-12 year old target audience my eye. :sad2:

SO, if tomorrow's quest is a likewise nightmare, fire off a message to VMK and complain again. And fire off a PM in my direction and I'll try and get everyone who can't get a shirt a shirt (especially you gals young and older who can't get any shirt otherwise). I'm sure baseball scalpers are in VMK like in real life. I can see it now... "I'll trade the whole suit and the hat for your inferno!" You know someone's going to try it. :sad2: So, in that spirit, I'll create my own little Mule Army for y'all if needed tomorrow.

I had to do the quest three times, too; once for me, once for DS11, and once for DS6. Normally getting 50 ghosts is no big deal but it was awful during the baseball quest yesterday. Too many people didn't understand how to play for more points, they got frustrated, they quit, and it was difficult to get the games started. I like playing HM, but not yesterday. SO I wonder, how many ghosts will todays quest require? :guilty: :badpc:

I sure hope we don't have to get any more ghosts! I'm with you Dashzap, HM was really bad last night. I've still got a hand cramp from all the clicking I had to do to get a game started...
