VMK Pirate pins/cards are sold out

I'll be purchasing mine either by phone or email in a couple days (after I have some money to buy them with). :)

Since it seems they are open edition, they should be around for awhile.
So I'm really in no hurry to get them yet. :)

Somebody I just talked to said they just ordered them by phone and they were told the they were currently on back-order, and you would not be receiving the pins until sometime in December... (Dont know if it's true. Can anybody confirm?)

I went to DTD this morning. It opens at 9:30 am and I arrived at 9:50 am. They were all sold out. The castmember told me that they had been selling them for a few days. I replied that they weren't supposed to go on sale until today. He told me not to pay attention to the release date when it is open edition because they can basically start selling it whenever they want. I told him I thought it would make more sense to give a more general time frame then if that is the case (i.e. "coming in November").

I wish I could say that I was as polite as this reads here, but I was upset and quite snarky truth be known. I'd feel bad about it except that his attitude was worse than mine, and besides... he started it! :rotfl2:

Anyway, I didn't have time to go to a park as I was on my way to work. I went to my car and called Disney information. I was told by that castmember that her computer was showing that they have very limited quantities of these pins in the parks. She also told me that they do not sell these pins in the resorts, only at pin trading locations. She went on to say that they have another shipment coming in December. Now I know that castmembers are misinformed a lot of the time so I did drive over to OKW and check that store but no pins. So I'm leaning toward believing her about location. I still have a hard time believing that the next shipment won't be here until december and I hope she was dead wrong about this.

Hmmmm, my sister went over to DTD this morning to pick up some sets for me. She was told they would have more tomorrow... I'd better call her then and let her know not to make the long car drive over until she has spoken to Guest Relations to confirm. But then of course if she waits until she calls, by the time she drives the 45 min. to get there, they will be all sold out again. :confused3

My mom called at 7:30pm EST. They are not in stock via Mail Order at this time, but they're taking back orders. The CM said the Disney folks themselves should get the boxes back in anywhere from December 2nd to December 26th, and they'll be shipped as soon as possible. She said they seriously underestimated how popular it would all be, and they ran out of stock sometime this morning. We went ahead and ordered 4 boxes and will order more after we get our first order. Just thought I'd let everyone know what we found out. :wizard:

ETA: Now, I could be totally wrong, but the feeling I get is not just that they have to have the pins shipped to them from somewhere else, but that they have to have more made (hence the "It might not be until after Christmas" part of it). Also, it's not surprising they sold the pins early. Back in 2005 when I really started buying pins, I had a list of all the pins I wanted to get that were coming out while we were there. Every single non-LE pin I wanted was in stores anywhere from 2 to 6 days before it was supposed to be. I don't really understand the point of having a release date if they don't go by it, but eh. Go figure. :confused3

Why can't these pins be available in Canada!? If you order online or by phone do they ship to Canada? It doesn't matter anyways because I don't have money for shipping and my parents would definitey say no. Guess I'll have to wait until my paycheck.

I hope she has better luck talking to guest relations than I did. I tried calling there just now. You cannot call DTD Pin Traders directly. I called guest relations and told them what I was looking for. The first castmember put me on hold. After 15 minutes I hung up and called back. The second castmember told me she was transferring me to somebody at Pin Traders but I ended up at the usual voicemail. The third castmember told me she had no idea and I should just come over there tomorrow and check. :furious:
The fourth time I called I got a service error message and now can't even get through. lol So much for calling back until I find the person who knows something.
I was hoping your sister had been told the correct information. But I hate to drive over there tomorrow and end up not getting them. So I don't know now what I am going to do.

Warning - major whining ahead!

I don't understand why calling Pin Traders is such a big production. Would it really be so hard for them to take calls there? I'm sure they get inundated with calls trying to place phone orders but you would think the usual robot beginning would let people choose that option, thereby kicking them over to mail order. I mean, seriously, it's not like they're the pope! Answer the stinkin' phone already!!! :sad2:

I went to DTD at seven o'clock tonight. They were sold out of the pins. "We just sold our last three half an hour ago" - that means they'd received another shipment earlier that evening.

I asked them to call around and see if the parks had any. "Animal Kingdom is closed already. Magic Kingdom and Disney-MGM Studios say they're all out. Epcot isn't answering the phone."

Went to Epcot. The pin trading station in the middle of Future World said they'd sold out immediately that morning.

Went to Mouse Gear. Found one VMK pin box on the rack - it had been opened, and it only had one card/pin in it. I took it to the counter and said, "This one's been opened and you probably don't want to sell it, but if you have any more boxes, I'll buy them." He checked in the back and came out with eight boxes for me, which of course I bought.

The sixteen pins I ended up with:

1 2 2 3 3 3 4 4 4 7 9 9 9 10 10 10

I hope they have more by Friday, because that's when I'm going. Can't afford dozens of boxes though, so I'll probably end up with 2 pins. :sad2: If I wanted to go all sour grapes I'd add "And they'll both be the same." :teeth:

I first discovered that getting in touch with an individual WDW store is about as easy as getting a direct line to a politician back in the summer of 2005 when I was on a hunt for monogrammed gold ears (no gold ears were to be had anywhere in the World during my trip). After much haggling, Mail Order gave us the number for the 12 Days of Christmas shop in DTD. Had another situation where we were connected to Uptown Jewelers at MK. Voicemail, while annoying, does work, though. Every time we got voicemail instead of a person, but a CM did call us back fairly quickly. That'd be my best advice about that.

As for the supply, my guess would be they should have some more for the parks and store, although maybe not much more. When I ordered a pretty large snowglobe after my March trip through Mail Order, I was told that the Mail Order supply is different than the parks' supply. They set aside so much of any item for the Mail Order warehouse, and then have separate stashes of the items for the parks and DTD, and nothing from Mail Order comes from the parks' stash (or at least in most cases). So, just because Mail Order is out for now doesnt necessarily mean the parks are out for at least a month.

From your lips to Mickey's ears....

Let's hope!!!

Hi,
I so hope you are right. We are arriving Sunday and Slinkyman and Smalld have been very hard at work saving up thier money so they could buy some of these. They will be disappointed if they have none in.

I ordered mine first this yesterday morning over the phone. The lady I spoke to told me the shipment could take 10-20 business days! :confused3 I figured 8-10. Has anyone else who ordered them over the phone been told the same amount of time for shipping?

I was hoping to use these for St Nick or stocking stuffers...guess not.
If anyone wants to repackage their duplicates and box them up to WI, I'd be happy to pay for your troubles (but sadly not the ebay mark-up). :sunny:

can someone please post or pm me the phone number for ordering? My computer at work is flash challenged :teeth: thanks!

For all the reports I have read, those that order via phone should get them before christmas.... but who knows.

Thanks Laura...unfortunately all I got was a very rude castmember who sounded very annoyed I was trying to order 2 of them. She said they are all sold out and are not taking any orders for them until after the 1st of next year. She was very huffy and I said, "you aren't accepting back-orders," she rudely snapped, "no".

whatever,...you'd think they would have produced enough to support two days worth of orders. :confused3
